No Good Deed by Jack Wallace is a gripping and heart-pounding thriller that delves deep into the harrowing world of human trafficking, a subject that is as timely as it is terrifying. The story follows Christopher Jones, a man struggling to keep his life together after a painful divorce, mounting unemployment, and the responsibilities of caring for his mother and teenage daughter. In an attempt to do a good deed, Christopher offers a ride to a young Korean woman heading to the Greyhound bus station, unknowingly pulling himself into a dangerous web of human trafficking.
Wallace’s writing excels at creating an atmosphere of escalating tension as Christopher's simple act of kindness spirals into a fight for survival. Almost immediately, he finds himself on the radar of ruthless Korean mobsters and ensnared in a world of violence and corruption. The stakes are high, and what should have been a benign favor soon becomes a life-or-death situation that leaves Christopher with no one to turn to, as the police dismiss his claims and he is left to face the consequences alone.
As the danger intensifies, Christopher partners with a tough Iraq War veteran and a preacher’s widow, each bringing their own unique skills to the table. Together, they navigate a treacherous path fraught with murder, deception, and ever-present danger. Their bond, formed out of necessity and circumstance, provides an emotional core to the story as they fight for survival in a world where trust is scarce and every step could be their last.
No Good Deed is a high-octane thriller that expertly explores the issue of modern-day slavery and the personal sacrifices made by those who fight against it. Wallace doesn’t shy away from depicting the ugly truths of human trafficking, giving readers an unflinching look at its devastating effects on individuals and families. Christopher’s journey from an ordinary man to an unlikely hero is a testament to resilience, courage, and the lengths one will go to protect others.
The plot is fast-paced, and the characters are well-drawn, with Christopher’s internal struggles and growth serving as a compelling anchor for the action. While the violence and terror are relentless, the novel is also a deeply human story about the choices we make, the cost of doing the right thing, and the unbreakable spirit of survival.
In conclusion, No Good Deed is a captivating and thought-provoking thriller that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. It is a must-read for those who enjoy intense, action-driven narratives with a strong moral backbone. Jack Wallace has crafted a powerful story that not only entertains but also brings awareness to a critical global issue.

This was my first book by this author and it definitely won’t be the last. With sex trafficking at an all-time high, I thought this book was timely and eye opening. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was hard to out down once I got started!

This is my first exposure to this author and indeed it didn’t disappoint. His main characters are well-flashed out, the plot timely to the point that is almost viewing a live news story about the ongoing commercial sexual exploitation crisis on the 6 o’clock news. It is a sobering look at the many ways our children are vulnerable.
This book is a fast-paced gritty tale which focuses on the true faces of the victims and those who care about them come to life. This gripping nightmare is real and ongoing and while told as fiction, is like looking through a mirror and seeing both the worst and best of mankind.
