Among the Trolls: by Marianna Spring is a very timely exploration of online misinformation and conspiracy theories. As the BBC's first disinformation correspondent, Spring has investigated these areas for several podcasts, and listeners to those will be familiar with many of the stories that also come up in the book. Even if you are familiar, Spring re-tells them in this book in an engaging and informative way.

The book details Spring's encounters and interviewers with conspiracy theorists and their followers, as well as those who have escaped conspiracy rabbit holes, or families of people still in thrall to these theories.

Spring is empathetic and carefully shows how it is often vulnerable and isolated people are drawn into these online conspiracies and the communities that build up around them.

Although conspiracy is not new, the internet and especially social media are helping to fuel these in a way that was unimaginable in decades past. This book is a thought-provoking insight into a truly modern problem.

Maybe I am not the target audience. I already know how damaging conspiracy theorists are. I didn't find this book that interesting with not a lot of substance.
