First off, thanks go to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

This was a fantastic beginning to a series! Margot Phalen is a detective with a serial killer for a father. When they finally speak again, more is revealed about his past. Simultaneously Margot is solving another family murder where nothing adds up.

Personally I could’ve gone for a little more back and forth between the family murder and issues with her father. At one point I have forgotten about the family. All in all, it was a great book. Fans of Blake Pierce will definitely like this series.

I can’t wait for Margot’s sequel!

Solid, if not exceptional police procedural. Detective Margot Phelan has a secret. Her father is a convicted serial killer. She has not come to grips with this past. But of course as she is solving her own case she is dragged back into her dad’s cases.

Writing is average and a bit predictable but it was an enjoyable enough read.
I got a copy from NetGalley. Opinions are my own,

I loved the POV chapters from Ed. Getting a glimpse into how a serial killer works was super creepy and interesting. But I didn't love that it didn't have one of those jaw dropping moments.

Overall, I enjoyed how the story flips back and forth between Margot in the present and Ed in the past and it had me hooked from the first chapter!!! Even though the story didn't have the big twist that I wanted, I still really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book.

Margot is a homicide detective and daughter of a former serial killer who has been locked up since was 15. After hearing he wants to speak with her about more potential victims, she must put her past and pride aside and visit her father to help uncover the true number of victims Ed Finch claimed. I did enjoy this book and although it kept my interest, the storyline was a little slow and drawn out.

Ed Finch, a California serial killer, has been transferred to San Quentin. Margot Phelan, a San Francisco detective, is working to solve the brutal killing of the Ramirez family. Only a few people know Margot's relationship to Ed Finch. This is a dark thriller with unexpected twists. 3.5 stars.

Thank you NetGalley & Storm Publishing for the ARC (review below)

overall this book is about a 3 star for me, however a good introduction for a series and I believe it will improve as the story progresses.

However there’s a murder case in this that never got wrapped up, the family murder was forgotten about for the middle part of the book and then reintroduced and quickly wrapped up at the end which was frustrating. It didn’t have the best flow jumping between cases etc but characters were great, relationships between characters were well developed, the killer POVs were creepy but very well written and I’d continue the series hence 3 stars ✨✨

This was a gripping crime thriller that I couldn't put down! I was immediately pulled in to the story and couldn't wait to find out what was happening. I enjoyed the storylines of both Margot and her father.

I'm giving it 4 stars because I felt there was a bit of a plot hole that really deserved more attention considering how significant it should have been.

There was als9 part of the story that was not resolved and I hope that it continues in the next book! I'm definitely looking forward to the next Detective Phalen book!!!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This fast-paced plot with multiple twists is definitely a perfect beginning for a series. The ending will leave you eagerly anticipating the next book!
The past/present timelines converge to make a suspenseful thriller/mystery involving horrific serial killer, Ed Finch and his daughter, Margot, a homicide detective.
Highly recommend this fast-paced, plot with multiple twists.

I like the parts with the cops. They are relatable and interesting. I really felt for them.
I do not like the serial killer parts. I am just not into any of that.
It is extremely well written, which is half of the reason I want to hate it. Also get a big dog if you live alone. It is a good deterrent.
I have to be honest here - I did the Animal Corpse thing when I did animal control and I did not like it and I do not want to think about it.
That said:
I ended up liking this anyway even with the gross corpse and scary stuff.
I am looking forward to Kate Wiley's next book.

Compelling and stimulating!

I've never considered what it could be like to be the child of a serial killer, not to mention America's most notorious one. Added bonus for me was that this novel was set in the area where I grew up, which is always fun for me to see how the San Francisco area is portrayed.

Margot's father, the serial killer, was caught when she was very young - but it certainly made a lasting impact. Now she's now a homicide detective with San Francisco PD. She's changed her name, and been so careful to hide her past... but it doesn't remain hidden to him.

Definitely affected by the trauma of her lineage, Margot receives word that not only has her father been transferred to San Quentin's death row, but he wants to see her. And he taunts her with details of an additional kill he hadn't been accused of, knowing her deep desire for the truth and justice for survivors would force her hand.

While her familial drama plays out, she's still working and investigating murders in her jurisdiction, including that of a family, save the youngest child.

Some of the chapters, particularly those when her father was an active murderer, were especially chilling. But not in a nightmare inducing kind of way. Well done, Kate Wiley!

Definitely a page turner, so block time accordingly :)

Thank you to NetGalley, Storm Publishing and Kate Wiley for the ARC.

“For all the girls who took out big books on serial killers from the library way too young, this one is for you.”

This book took me a couple chapters to really get into, but I’ve noticed that’s normal for me with Thriller books. Once I was hooked though it was that way all the way through!

I’m someone who’s obsessed with true crime documentaries and I fall asleep to Criminal Minds (😱 yes, I’m totally insane) but this book read just like all those shows I’m obsessed with!
The way Kate Wiley describes everything, from the crime scene to the morgue, even down to Margot’s apartment, and their murder board is amazing. You can just visualize it

“Realism is a miserable business,”

My favorite thing about this story though was it didn’t read as predictable (at least to me) I had my guesses about who was behind things and what was going to happen but they were just guesses, it was never “I know what’s going to happen” which made the book that much more enjoyable!

I loved the jumps to the past it really gives us another perspective and more insight! Especially into Ed.

I’m excited to see what happens next in this series, although I’m extremely pissed and Andrew…this whole book though was amazing!

This is my first book by Kate Wiley but it will not be my last!

Just the type of book I love. Prolific serial killer Ed is locked up and hasn’t seen his daughter for 20 years as she loathes him. Margot is now a detective hunting men like her Daddy.
Ed says he will tell her where number 77 is buried if she comes to visit him.
I expected it to be in the vein of Silence of The Lambs but it was more of a police procedural. I did quite like Margot but Ed (ok I know he’s a serial killer) was a bit of an idiot and not scary so I was disappointed in this.
Thank you Net galley, Storm Publishing & Kate Wiley for an advanced copy of this book.

"They called him the Bay area killer, she called him Daddy."

Margot Phelan is a Homicide detective. Previously she was known as Megan Finch the daughter of a notorious serial killer Ed Finch who murdered 76 women.

Switches between current time and the past (80's & 90's) from Eds POV of each killing.

The end of chapter two I was literally like 😳🤯.. holly shit! This book sucks you in hardcore and I finished it in 24hrs.

The story is about Margot trying to solve a murder of a family (which you will see solved by the end of the book) during it though Ed Finch's lawyer reaches out saying your father wants to see you and tell you about victim 77... Margot hasn't seen her father since he was arrested when she was 15.

This book literally had me in a choke hold!! I could not put it down and ends with another phone call from Eds lawyer saying he is ready to tell you about victim 78...😳 I can not wait to find out when the next book is due to be relesed because I need it now!

Available for pre order on Amazon $4.99 AUD and will also be available on KU from 25/03/2024.

A great start to a good police procedural. As the title hints, The Killer’s Daughter is Detective Margot Phalen, formerly Megan Finch. She is the daughter of Ed Finch a notorious serial killer, having killed 76 women during his reign of terror. Told in dual timelines of when Margot was a child and now as a detective dealing with homicides and the possibility of another serial killer, Margot feels overwhelmed at times. Relatable characters, good dialogue and smart investigating made this book hard to put down. Thank you Netgalley and Storm Publishing for an early copy. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and this review is my honest opinion.

This book grabbed my attention immediately, however it did not keep it throughout.
I did enjoy it but at times I felt much less engaged and started skimming pages.

It took me a while to get into this. I wasn't expecting it to be so focused on the investigation in a police-procedural/detective way. In the end I was totally disappointed as the ending left much to be desired.

Five star rating!!! Fast moving and exciting. I can’t wait until the next in the series! The characters are sympathetic and complex.

Margo Phalen, homicide detective and daughter of one of the Bay Area’s most prolific serial killer. Her father is transferred to a prison close by and wants to reconnect with his long lost daughter, but he knows the only way to bring her in is to tell her something about the past.

Margot is working on an investigation for the murder of an entire family except one 9 year old Mateo.

We follow the story throughout Margot’s investigation and flashbacks to twenty years ago during her father Ed’s active years.

The chapters written in Ed’s POV are written sort of like a criminal minds episode where we follow the unsub through the crimes.

I feel one part of this book was written in so much detail in the middle of the book but once we got to the end there was no closure it just went cold, but that’s okay maybe we’ll get there in book 2 :)

Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing for this Arc!

4 ⭐️

Reading this was like watching an episode of Criminal Minds! I can’t wait to see more of Detective Margot Phalen in the future!

First I want to give my thanks NetGalley, Storm Publishing, and Kate Wiley for allowing me to read this ARC!

It was such a delight reading through this in every chapter except for Ed's chapter not because of the writing per se but because it was Ed's perspective but still I think readers need that kind of chapters. I would also love to see more "profiling" from Agent Rhodes or Leon.

I love Margot. I love how smart she is and how venerable she is because of her PTSD.

Can't wait for the second book. I would really like to know the killer/s behind the Mauir Woods murder.

Imagine if it is Justin? - the apple doesn't fall far from the tree *wink*

And oh! Margot and Wes? I think there should be a love triangle between those two.

Such a nice read.
