"...I'm many things, but I'm not a victim. Ed has seventy six of those, and I don't deserve to be counted alongside them."

But what happens when Ed's lawyer calls after over 20 years and says, "If she says hello, I'll tell her about seventy seven." Just chills throughout reading the gripping creepy The Killer's Daughter by new favorite brilliant psychological thriller author Kate Wiley.

The premise may not be new but the execution is phenomenally crafted in this all encompassing thriller genre masterpiece. Margot Phalen was once Megan Finch but everything changed when, at 15, her father was arrested for being the infamous San Francisco serial killer of 76 women.

Margot is a homicide detective, now 40, single with a cabinet filled with Xanax and other mental health drugs, and another shelf for the liquor when the fears, the guilt and the PTSD gets control of her mind.

Her sexy partner Wes, knows her secret, that her father is Ed Finch, the notorious now on death row serial killer. They are working a very bizarre case of a murdered family with only 9 year old Mateo, hidden away, a survivor. If this book was just about Mateo's family it would be a worthy murder mystery but this writer has plans; lgiving goosebumps every few chapters with Ed's story about how he killed, why he killed and how sometimes his baby daughter Megan was in her car seat, in the back of the car, while he dragged his next victim to her gruesome death.

Not always an easy read but a fascinating one. The psychological element is prominent as we learn about Margot, Ed and even orphaned Mateo. There's a lot to unpack but The Killer's Daughter slays as book one in the new must read Detective Margot Phalen Series.

I received a free copy of this book from Storm Publishing via #NetGalley for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

The Killer's Daughter by Kate Wiley is a captivating psychological thriller long with being a police procedural. The first book by this author that I have read it is a heart pounding read especially the parts when we see into Ed Finch’s head. From the beginning to the conclusion it is filled with shocks and surprising twists.

You will come to admire Detective Margot Phalen as I did. Also you will find it hard to put down this engrossing scary story. I know because I read way to late trying to figure out the four members family home murderers. I had my suspicions but it was even darker than I had thought. Here’s hoping that Margot and co-workers get another story soon.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the free e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was FABULOUS!!! I am so excited to read the next installment in this new series! This story checked all the boxes for me: mystery, suspense, psychological thriller, believable characters, serial killers, police procedure, and murder!

Margot Phalen is a flawed and damaged detective that pursues justice for victims of crimes committed in San Francisco. She is also Megan Finch, the adult daughter of Ed Finch, the notorious "Classifieds Killer". We meet Margot at the scene of the most recent crime, where family of four has been brutally murdered.

Margot also gets a message from her serial killer father requesting that she come see the man who destroyed her childhood. She also discovers that Ed has been moved from prison in the east coast to the west coast and right into Margot's backyard. Her father knows just the right, enticing message to send to Margot that will have her come see him for the first time in 15 years. Together with the FBI agent that arrested Ed, Margot does go see her father in jail, which opens up another pandora's box for her.

The character development was very well done by the alternating story timelines between the past and present and the alternating narrators, Margot and Ed. The reader learns a lot about what makes Ed and Margot tick through the past and present progression.

I just could not put this one down and kept looking for time to continue reading it! HIGHLY recommend!!! 7 stars (if that was possible)

A great book to kick off a new series. I was completely invested. Excellent characters. Plenty of action and suspense. The twists kept me guessing and the ending left me wanting more. I can't wait for the next story.

In this book you follow Detective Margot who is investigating a gruesome mass murder of a family while dark secrets from her own past pop up.

I loveeee me a good detective series when done right! The ending of this book is perfectly set up to begin a great series. I feel if you like SVU, true crime and Karin Slaughter you'll enjoy this book!

Great read. The title is a little misleading. The main character is the daughter of a killer, but the main focus isnt on that story. Its about Margot (the daughter) being a detective and solving a gruesome family murder. It touches on her fathers past here and there, but it's about her current life and career. The story itself was amazing. The plot twists in the middle of the story is a great touch that keeps your heart pumping and makes you not want to put the book down. My higschool English teacher thought me to read the last sentence of a book, and if it catches my interest, the book will be great, and I can tell you that this book was GREAT!

Thanks to netgalley and publisher for supplying this advanced copy for the purpose of review.

I got into this straight away. I found it immediately compelling and found the backstory of the main lead added a little extra to the story. It was definitely a dark story and extremely well written. I'm hoping there is more to come.

This talented author has written a page turner. Realistic characters keep the story moving. The premise of the daughter of a serial killer is scary. Her past…wow…no words…the present…she is helping others…do not try to discern the ending too soon. Not easy…cannot wait to read her next book.

This book was so tough for me to get into. It took me so long to read and I just couldn’t get invested with the characters. I was hoping for more father stories and less today stories and the way the last meeting went should have stayed the end. It showed Margot as a strong bad ass woman and with a second book I assume she goes back on her word which doesn’t sit right with me.

THANK YOU Storm Publishing and NetGalley for this. Wow! 4.5 rounding up to 5

This is a SOLID and strong debut novel, which tees up to having a potential sequel. I CONSUMED this within a day’s time.

Very easy to follow not only two active cases, but another that creeps up from the past. Great character development for Margot. The dual/alternating chapters between Margot and Ed play a crucial component to Margot’s depth.

The author’s delivery and style of writing made it very easy for me to picture the scenes. So much so I was thinking if this were to get an adaptation, who would play who? I was invested!

This is a YES from me and Kate Wiley fed my murder/mayhem/mystery need.

Thank you to the publisher and net galley for the opportunity to read this book. I received it as an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

3.5 stars. I like the writing style and it was a great setup for the next book. Lots of character details and good dual timeline. I’m more into thriller than police procedural books and some parts were slow for me personally, but a good, solid read.

Kate Wiley’s “The Killer’s Daughter” marks the first instalment in the Detective Margot Phalen series. Prepare yourself for an intense, nail-biting thriller. Margot may have been brought up by a serial killer, specifically America’s most infamous one, but it’s been two decades since she last encountered her father. One of the most crucial changes she has made since then is becoming a homicide detective and bringing justice to individuals like her father, Ed Finch. Ed’s unfortunate imprisonment hasn’t stopped him from being transferred nearby and determined to have a small family reunion.

Margot and her partner Wes are overwhelmed with solving gruesome murders. This is an incredible beginning to what will be an outstanding series. This story had me hooked from the very first page to the final one. The fast-paced narrative and captivating plot of this tale kept me hooked. It has an utterly compelling and chilling conclusion. The next book in this series has me eagerly waiting to read it.

The K's Daughter by K. Wiley, published by Storm Publishing, is the first book in the Detective Margot Phalen Series.
Margot is a Detective and her partner Wes are working on their latest case. To make matters more complicated her father, Ed, a mass murderer is transferred to a prison near her.
An intense, fast paced, complex read. The first book is the introduction to story and characters and sets the mood of the series nearly perfectly.
I enjoyed reading this story and can't wait what' gonna happen in the next book.

WOW WOW WOW!!!
If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would!!
There was nothing, not a thing, I didn't like about it..
The Killer's daughter is a police procedural/detective series and a great one at that. It follows Margot, a San Francisco homicide detective who also happens to be the daughter of convicted serial killer Ed Finch. The story has dual timelines and goes from present day and the current cases Margot is working on to the past from Ed's POV and some of his murders.
I look forward to continuing to learn about Margot and Ed as well as the other characters including Margot's relationship with her partner Wes. I think this is shaping up to be a fantastic series!!
Thank you to Netgallery, Storm publishing and Kate Wiley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

The Killer's Daughter is a book about Margot Phalen who is a homicide detective in the Bay area. She also happens to be the daughter a notorious serial killer. Margot has changed her name, appearance, and moved to be as far as she can from her dad. He is locked securely away on death row across the country, and she is helping to solve murders as a way to help atone for her father's actions.

I don't know what it was, but the minute I was introduced to Margot, I immediately liked her. Maybe it was the way Kate Wiley described her, but her personality spoke to me. She is damaged by her past, but still extremely compassionate and in tune to those around her. It felt like she didn't fully comprehend how strong she is.

The first time we see Margot is at the scene of a quadruple homicide. Upon first glance, it appears an entire family is killed, but it is soon discovered one family member survived, seemingly unscathed. The clock starts ticking to figure how and why these four people were targeted. The answer might just shock you!

There are two more murders, not connected to the family's homicide, but it bears an eerie resemblance to some of her father's victims. And it just so happens, her dad pops back into her life, bringing down all her security she desperately worked to create.

I love the Bay area in California, so the setting was perfect for me! i thought all of the characters were well developed, Wes, Margot's partner. The book was well written, and while I could see the twist coming, there were things about it that were unexpected for sure! I am so glad this is a start of a series, because I want more Margot Phalen!

This thriller was one of the better books of this genre I have read in a while! Margot is a homicide detective who was raised by a prolific serial killer - it was giving me major criminal minds vibes. I thought Margot's character struggling with her identity as a serial killer's daughter and complex PTSD as a result was very well done, and the chapters from her father's point of view were WILDLY creepy. This book had me guessing until the end, and I can't wait to read the next book in this series. 4.5 stars.

The Killer's Daughter by Kate Wiley - publication date March 25, 2024

Run to get ahold of this book as soon as you can - beginning in three days! This was a great first book in a series that I know I am hooked on. It is unfamiliar territory for me to not have access to binge read this author's sequels after finishing book 1 in less than a day, but here I am. I am a massive Tana French fan (specifically her Dublin Murder Squad series), and this definitely made me think of her books!

Homicide detective, Margot Phalen, has a gruesome family murder fall into her lap. She is haunted by her past of being raised by a serial killer while navigating various other crimes to bring victim's family members justice. The past is the past, her old name included, until she is contacted by a lawyer telling her that her imprisoned father wants to see and talk to her again. You can only imagine the mental turmoil this brings to a person who is already facing death on the job every day.

The story bounces from current time in Margot's point of view to her father stalking and killing his many victims over the years. I am glad this wasn't just a one-sided view of detective work, but to get into the mind of the serial killer as well made this bone chilling and very page-turning.

I caught this book on NetGalley by the skin of my teeth, as it is being published in three days, and archived on here shortly after. Do not miss the chance to get hooked on Kate Wiley and her books as I am now! Thank you so much to NetGalley, the author Kate Wiley, and Storm Publishing for my opportunity to read and rate this book.

This book definitely kept me interested but I felt like it jumped around a lot. The different events definitely set up for a series of books or at least a sequel. I would read the next one to find out about her fathers other numbers!

I liked this, it was a thriller I could be certain would keep me hooked. I like the background connection following the FMC’s serial killer father and it also helps tell us why the FMC Margot became a homicide detective.

I’m surprised at who the killer turned out to be in the main case Margot & Wes were following, but also kind of saw where it was going. The predictability didnt take away from the story.
