Winning the lottery should be the stuff dreams are made of. Reading this made me think that's not the truth!
I listened to the audio book and devoured it over a weekend. Easy to get into the characters, share their joy at winning £12.5 million and then slowly understand the secrets they were keeping. Hadyn and Natalie were likeable, but the secrets they were keeping from each other were life changing.
I enjoyed this, a few twists and turns - understanding the complex relationships helped pull the story together.
It's the first I've come across by this author, but won't be the last.
Thanks to #NetGalley the author and publisher for an advance copy of this audio book
Wow! What a roller coaster! Lots of surprises that I didn’t predict. It started off a little slow but that quickly changed.
Natalie wins the lottery and her whole life changes. At first she does not want anyone to know. Once the secret is out, she opens a coffee shop and her husband Hayden quits is job. Unfortunately Hayden finds himself in a bit of trouble and is constantly having to spend money to get himself out. Strangers from the past begin to resurface. Friends and family they once knew begin to turn on the couple. Things are not as they seem— everyone is a suspect!
Thanks to NetGalley and Lorna Douneava for letting me read this in exchange for an honest review!
What a roller coaster this book was. There was lots of suspense and some unexpected twists. Some of the characters were truly awful and the narrator helped me despise Daisy! I really enjoyed listening to this as an audiobook and sped through it in a few days. The book took a while to get going and I was so frustrated that Natalie was just sitting on the lottery win but I also enjoyed the suspense of this part. I great page turner from a new author and one that I would read more from.
I listened to an audiobook version of this story. It was an easy listen, which kept me interested.
Everything goes wrong after a lottery win. It made me think a lot. It wasn't really down to the money, it was down to lies and secrets!!
Some of the characters were quite annoying, for example Daisy and Liz, but I knew Liz would be involved in the bad stuff!
Somehow they all had a part to play.
Good story!!
This was a bit of a hit and a miss for me. The storyline was a bit all over the place. Yet I did enjoy it.
Natalie was likeable to an extent that I don’t think a single other character was. It made the age old question “can money really buy you happiness?” Into a full novel, and I think we can safely say no, not for these people, but one of them can be trusted. The first 75% sort of pottered and dragged, yet the ending was good and actually tied up every single end.
The narration was good if a little overacted at times.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for the opportunity to listen to this Audiobook In return for an honest review.
What a roller coaster. This book had me thinking early on that I had it all figured out! Well, I was wrong. I love books that have complex storylines and characters that weave in and out. This book had mystery, secrets, lies, money, love, revenge, it checked ALL the boxes. I did feel that I struggled to connect with the main characters emotionally which was the one thing I really wish would have been different. especially .considering the subjects, I would have preferred to either love or hate the characters but really felt indifferent about both the male and female main characters. The ending did catch me just a bit by surprise which I appreciated. You’ll soon see that everyone is suspect in this twisty tale! All in all, I enjoyed this audiobook and think others will as well!
I want to thank Lorna Dounaeva, the publisher and NetGalley for the advanced copy of this audiobook.
Wow!! I must say - in the beginning, I wasn’t sure about this one. Thankfully Lorna proved me wrong! Story gives early Lisa Jewell vibes.
I audibly gasped lightly at the 59% mark with that revelation! And the twists kept coming!
Audiobook was great. Always love a good British narrator. Listened at 1.75, which is faster than usual. Completed the 11 ish hour audiobook in one day!
4 stars! Looking forward to exploring more Lorna novels
I listened to this one via Audiobook received from NetGalley and this was definitely a wild ride!!!
This is my first book by this author and it follows a couple that wins the lottery and what implications that has on there lives. The Audiobook was fantastic, the voice actor did an amazing job and would definitely recommend.
At the beginning of the book there was this element of tension due to a particular plot point that is somewhat spoilery, this level of tension kept me reading and intrigued despite wanting to shake the main character for her silly decisions. As the story progressed though it was absolutely bonkers!!! Although I do not believe this is automatically a bad thing, there definitely are moments that you have to turn your brain off to enjoy the story, thus this is a 3 star read for me. If you like a wacky domestic thriller and don't mind if there are some plot holes or convenient plot points to make the story somewhat make sense, then I would check this one out.
I listened to this on audio and I'm so glad I did. I enjoyed the narrator Imogen Church and she really did an amazing job. This story was so twisty and followed the couple Natalie and Hayden whom keep numerous secrets from one another. Natalie wins the lottery and all their secrets start to come to light. All the twists and turns this book provides kept me intrigued into the very end. I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future!
You win the $12M in the lottery. You suspect your husband is cheating and don't tell him about the ticket... but also don't cash the ticket??? LIke, cash it girl... even if he is cheating, at least you just won $12M... to quote Ariana Grande, "whoever said money can't solve your problems must not have had enough money to solve them" You have $12M... you can find someone better.. just cash the ticket.
The narrator was great, but the story itself, ESPECIALLY the beginning was painfully slow. It was just repeating the same thing, and I didn't really get into it until the 60% mark.. at that point the twists keep coming and the story gets a bit unhinged.
So I would say its a 3 stars - 4 stars if I just read the end, but because you have to wait so long to get into it, I am bumping it to 3 stars. I get a slow burn, but this just wasn't that (IMO).
First of all, I want to thank NetGalley for the arc audiobook. I have to admit and say that I did not like the narrators voice, but at least “their” voice was distinct enough to differentiate between the characters, I was not confused when they were having conversations with someone or when they were in their “head”. Had to speed it up to 2X though, but that is simply because that is what works best for me when it comes to literally anything.
3.5 stars ⭐️
Now let’s get to the book; this book is about Natalie who ends up winning 12m - and it takes a long while until she shares the news with her husband Hayden, because she ends up having suspicions that he is cheating on her, after seeing a message on his phone from another woman right before she wanted to share the big news with him. I will be honest and say that the beginning was a bit too long, it got a bit boring and repetitive, but oh my, there were so many plot twists and so much happening, it was hard to grasp my head around the whole mess happening in their lives, both keeping secrets and acting shady. The truth will always come out at the end, so why not just be honest? I honestly really enjoyed listening to this book, which I did not expect that I would, even though the beginning - up until 50-70% was a bit too dragging, but the whole mess made it up. I expected a lot of it, but the ending? So unexpecting and shocking. This book will feel special to me, because it is the first book I have listened to and not given up on, so..
The book gets published 19 February, definitely worth a read! Want to say one thing too, I was not asked, or under any obligation to share a review, all opinion is my own.
This book was unexpected. My perspectives of the various characters change so frequently throughout as they make decisions and the past is revealed. There were plenty of twists to keep me interested and I didn’t see the ending coming! I listened to the audiobook and read the digital book as well. I enjoyed the narrator 🎧
I am giving this 2.5 stars ⭐ rounded up to 3
I want to start off with how much I love the narration. Imogene Church is an incredible narrator, and I am pretty sure I could listen to her read a physics textbook, actually I would probably prefer that as opposed to reading it! She probably made this book for me.
This book was very triggering for me. I am going to put a spoiler alert right here. i cannot list all my triggers with this book without listing all the spoilers, in my opinion. There will also be other spoilers listed, I don't want people to think it is just trigger warnings.

With the main character having had an unplanned pregnancy, and also having planned an adoption (it is not giving the baby up, big trigger) was a huge plot point. I had the same issues with Jar of Hearts by Jennifer Hillier. Not all children who are placed for adoption end up unhinged and unhappy, and out for vengeance. And of course, I am not saying this book aims to make this claim, but it doesn't help either. And how disturbing is it that her biological daughter slept with her husband- that was a little too much for me. If she had a child with another man, and the child wasn't adopted, would that be an acceptable storyline?
I also felt like there were too many off shoots. At the beginning it was a little slow, like a child coloring within the lines, and then it was too much so they went crazy with the crayon just to finish it. I did like the ending, I didn't like her sister from the beginning, but it still felt like soooo much.
I would have liked this more if there were fewer details thrown throughout. Maybe no Daisy storyline, or co-worker from the other coffee shop, or Vivian, or cousin Oliver. And maybe I just need to process it a little more.

Couldn’t get into this one
A bit dry for me… I just needed more strength at the start of the story.
Who doesn’t want to win the lottery…..Seductive and twisted. Highly recommended! Readers, find some quiet alone time to settle in with this one because you won't stop reading until you've turned the final page. Highly recommended to fans of mysteries, suspense and thrillers.
A super slow start where I just wanted to throttle the characters myself to get the story moving.
Natalie wins the lotto and just sits on the winning ticket because her husband might be having an affair. JUST CASH THE TICKET.
When you get almost halfway, the book starts picking up. Weirdly Natalie assumes that the person doing everything is this missing daughter she gave up. Having read this, I still don't know why she was so set in that theory.
Hayden was despicable to me the whole time. A whiny, heating git. So in love with Natalie but can't keep it in his pants. He's not even having an affair with the one Natalie thinks.
The way the Imogen pronounces her name each time had me gasping for air. I could totllally picture the face Nataloe makes saying her name like that.
I will admit to the ending taking me by surprise.
The suspense had me hooked from the very first page. From suspicious characters to sinister motives, this thriller delivers.
Thank you NetGalley for sending this book for my review consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Wife's Mistake is a roller-coaster from start to finish. It is a story about how winning the lottery can change your life in an instant, while the past can still come back to haunt you. The first half of the book was a bit slow and repetitive, but the second half really picks up and throws in some really interesting twists that psychological thriller lovers seek. Overall, it was a good read and worth picking up.
I received a copy of this audiobook to provide an honest review. First of all I found it easy to listen to. Imogen Church did an amazing job narrating the book. She kept it interesting at a great pace.
The story itself was pretty twisted. Natalie and Hayden are a couple that both seem to have secrets hidden from each other - they win the lottery and the secrets begin to unravel .
I loved the storyline of a lottery win- it connected me to the story and made me more invested.
Great read for those who enjoy guessing the outcome until the very end.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for the opportunity to review this audiobook.
4/5 Stars (rounding up). Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for the audiobook of The Wife's Mistake by Lorna Dounaeva narrated by Imogen Church.
This is my first book by this author and narrator. First off, the narrator did a fantastic job with this book! (My favorite was when she was the Daisy character lol - it was clearly Daisy talking.) Oh man, this novel listed are some of my fears if I were to win the lottery, that's where everyone seems to reach out to you and believes that they are entitled to some portion of the winnings. Not only that but some of the family secrets can't be kept hidden for too long. This had so many twists and turns in the plot and got me hooked right from the beginning. However, I feel like I may have enjoyed the story too well that I felt the ending just came to an abrupt end/stop. It left me speechless and just wanting more!
It was a quick and fun audiobook to listen to and easy to follow. Again, the narrator was fantastic in narrating this novel and made it really enjoyable to follow along. I will be checking out other novels by this author, she's gained a new fan!
