This was a decent thriller that would keep you on your toes. The narration was top notch as well.

Natalie and Hayden are newlyweds with a ton of secrets. When Natalie wins the lottery, she hides it from Hayden because she thinks he is hiding something, possibly an affair. Hayden finds the ticket one day while Natalie is working.

Natalie's past that she wants to keep hidden, will be uncovered.

Deceptions, twists, this book did not disappoint.

Winning the lottery just shows the world publicly what type of person you’ve always been. And this book takes a look at two people who couldn’t tell right from wrong if it whacked them in the face…and has them win the lottery. You can imagine what comes next. Excess, debauchery, lying, affairs, believing everyone is a good person, and making bad decisions. One on top of the next.

I really enjoyed it! I hated the characters, hated how dumb all of these people were, hated the secrets—but all in the best (most entertaining) way. I couldn’t wait to see what these morons were going to mess up next.

To be fair, I don’t think this reads like a psychological thriller. More domestic suspense than anything. Some tense parts, and the book moved quickly—but the suspense was a very slow burn to the end. I also wasn’t entirely surprised by any of the twists, though one shocked me.

Hayden and Natalie are newlyweds and are living paycheque to paycheque. Natalie currently works as a Barista at a local Coffee Shop and had dreams of owning her own Coffee Shop one day. So one morning when she checks the lottery numbers she is shocked to see that they have matched all the numbers and are winners of 12 million pounds. At the same time she happens to come across a text on Hayden's phone that makes her wonder if her husband is being faithful or not. She decides to keep the winnings a secret until she can find out what is going on with Hayden. She hides the ticket and low and behold Hayden finds it one day while Natalie is at work, he is ecstatic and they contact the lottery company to confirm if they actually won. This phone call will forever change their lives going forward and will unearth all the secrets of Natalie's past that she had wanted to keep hidden forever......Enjoy!!!

Deception is deadly and betrayal is dangerous. The story itself was pretty twisted. but a great read until the very end! Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for a chance to read and review this book in exchange for an honest review.

so, so fun! the ambiguity and drama was truly written to just stagger the reader with the spectacular twists and turns! i was immersed in the story from the beginning to end.

i highly recommend to begin reading the story with limited knowledge of its interwoven structure, but there is this profound adoration that i have for thrillers like The Wife’s Mistake that they are domestically set because the fact of the matter is that it is so much more satisfying to unravel the deception, secrecy, and lies with the people who should know them the very best.

This simply wasn’t a book for me. I won’t be giving feedback. I did listen to the whole book though.

3.5 (?) stars

This book was okay, but the characters’ decisions regularly felt kind of ridiculous, and I found myself feeling a bit annoyed by the way the plot unfolded on more than one occasion. I didn’t hate it, but I feel like the story could have been told in a more compelling way, and I also feel like the protagonist and the motivation for her actions needed further development. All in all, it wasn’t terrible, but it definitely wasn’t my favourite in this genre.

The start of this book was really confusing . I think I was more annoyed with Natalie than anything. I personally feel like this book had so much potential to be great. It gave me flash backs of reading a book called The Winner mixed with the domestic thriller vibes . Winning the lottery and dealing with betrayal seem to me the main thing I took away from the story. I will read other stories by the author as this one wasn’t terrible .

There is a lot going on in Lorna Dounaeva's "The Wife's Mistake". So if you are listening to the audiobook as I did, do not let your mind wander or you will be lost! However it is a fun, twisty story with deception, adultery, murder and money. Good twists at the end with action that is fast paced. I'll definitely go back and read more from this author. Narration by Imogen Church was excellent.

This was a cracker of a read (or should I say listen). In the beginning, the narrator got on my nerves, her voice was a bit harsh and grating, but it sort of evened out and settled, or maybe I got used to it.

Some of the characters are a huge pain in the behind (looking at you, Daisy). To be honest, there are quite a few (actually most) incredibly questionable characters here, with the moral compass of a pineapple. I'm not sure this sort of thing happens in real life, and if it does WOW. Because to be honest, it's quite frightening how easily Lexi came to be in Hayden's life. Clearly, he needed a serious klap, fortunately, he got one. They all seem to be living a double life, it's a bit chaotic, to be honest.

One other thing I want to mention, at some point he told Nathalie he wishes they had never won the money, things were so much better before. How can that be? The money isn't what made him behave the way he did. But it does go to show, once again, just how awful humans are. My best advice would be if you ever do win the lotto, tell nobody. Not a living soul.

All in all, a fairly solid book, I do think I'll read this author again.

2 and a half rounded up to 3 stars - an extra half for the cat sanctuary.

If you win the lottery, you're life will be better, easier, carefree. Right? That's what Natalie assumed when she happened to win $12 million pounds in a lottery drawing. In an instant, she went from a broke barista to being wealthy beyond her wildest dreams. She is so excited to tell her husband, Hayden, until she sees a message on her phone, sending her into a semi-tailspin. All she wants is to be out of her small. grungy apartment and to open her own coffee shop. Small dreams held up until she knows the truth. What she doesn't know is a mistake from years ago could prevent her from having the easy life she wants.

This book was soooo good. The slow burn to the twists was amazing. There was actually one point in the book where my mouth dropped open at the shock of the twist. Even in the last few pages of the book held a massive twist. This was a perfect thriller, and now I want to pick up more of Lorna Dounaeva's work.

This story has a surprising twist! As a matter of fact there are several twists. Just when I thought I knew where the story was going, it went into another direction entirely! I would love to read or listen to a follow up novel!

I’ll admit, it was a bit slow for longer than I’d have liked it to been. It really didn’t grasp me until about 40-50% in. There were a lot of twists near the end, some predictable, some mind blowing. Overall, it was decent.

The beginning of this book was kind of confusing. Natalie is a barista who is unhappy with her job, a winning lottery ticket, a husband who could be cheating...all of this normally would draw me in but it felt like it jumped around quite a bit. The secrets, deception, and the strange things that start happening as soon as it's public knowledge that they're lottery winners. To be honest I feel like this fell short of my expectations. There were some twists that I enjoyed even though they were a bit predictable. The theme of family ties and greed along with the old saying "be careful what you wish for" really come to mind when reading this book. Overall it was a pretty good read, however, I'm not sure it's one I'd highly recommend.

I have just finished reading an absolutely captivating novel that has left me completely enthralled. It tells the story of a family who wins the lottery and how their lives are forever changed by their newfound wealth.

From the very first page, I was struck by the sheer speed at which this book moved. The story unfolded at a breakneck pace, revealing more and more about the couple's past and present as it went along. One of the things I found most fascinating about this book was the stark contrast between Natalie and Hayden's approaches to managing their wealth. Their vastly different goals and motivations kept me hooked throughout the entire book.

In addition to the intriguing characters, the novel is full of unexpected twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. The number of secrets that were revealed throughout the story was staggering, and I was constantly surprised by the ways in which they all intertwined. It was like watching a house of cards being built up, only to come crashing down in a spectacular and unexpected fashion.

Overall, I cannot recommend this book enough. For anyone who enjoys thrillers that keep you guessing until the very end, this is an absolute must-read. I am incredibly grateful to Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this phenomenal book.

I have already given feedback for this Title. But I will do it again, I received a copy of this audiobook to provide an honest review. First let me start by saying that Imogen Church did a wonderful job narrating this book, and I could listen to her narrate any time.
This is a book if you ever wanted to know or wondered what could happen if "I WON" the lottery and how my family and friend would react if that happened then this is a book for you. This was a slow burn Thriller that starts off with just a regular couple trying to make ends meet and living in this rat race of a life we all have to endure. Friends, family and children or no children. Just your everyday couple then suddenly a major event happens that you know could change your life and you hesitate because you do not know if you want your life to change or if you are really happy and comfortable with yourself as you are. Does money let out your true self that you hold back due to not being able to have the freedom to be that person? Some of the twist you will not see coming and some you will but all the while you will still be thinking would I have done the same or what would I have done things differently. You will enjoy this read for sure just hang in there for the ride to begin.
