Compelling and addictive. I wasn’t sure if I liked Natalie or if she was just selfish and self absorbed. In the end I felt sorry for her and was shocked at the end.
Makes me pause at what could happen in a regular person’s life after winning the lottery.

This book missed the mark for me. The first half of the book I seriously questioned if I was evening listening to the right book. I didn’t feel like it went with the synopsis of the book at all. It wasn’t until the second half of the book that I felt it started to get more into the story. However, at this point there were so many back stories and characters to try to keep tract of. Who they really were and how they played into the story I had a hard time keeping all the storylines straight. I still think I’m missing an understanding of at least one major storyline. It was an interesting idea for a story, but not well executed.

Well that was a wild ride! This book is full of twists and surprises and kept me guessing all along the way. Definitely a fun and addicting read. I was offered an ARC audio version of The Wife's Mistake and listened to it in basically two sittings, could not stop listening. It is a tale of money, greed and how the power of money can corrupt even the most noble of people. Natalie and Hayden win 12.5 million pounds in the lottery, and even though they are thrilled beyond belief this is the jumping point where all their troubles begin. I really enjoyed this twisty tale and can highly recommend it. 4.5 stars.

Many thanks to Net Galley and the publisher Bookouture Audio for a chance to listen/read this wild and twisty story. So much fun!

This is why I don't play the lottery!!!! What a unique premise for a thriller. I read a lot of mystery thrillers and get tired of the same recycled plots. Yes, this had a few common tropes, but overall what a fun ride. The story kept me interested and was very fast paced. While no one was a good person by the end of the book, Liz was probably my favorite character. She was by far the smartest. There were a few plot holes so it lost a star, but overall I can recommend this book. Also, I just love Imogen Church as a narrator. She did a fantastic job bringing this novel to life.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC.

I was lucky enough to get an ARC for this book and so glad I could read it. This book has a quick start, lots twists and turns and a great well thought out plot line. I do think pacing in the book could have been different. There were a couple spots where I just wanted the store to move forward for example when she was trying to decide if/when or how to tell her husband about the lottery ticket. To keep that slowed the pace of the book and could have been wrapped up quicker. Over all a great book and I would absolutely recommend it.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This book took awhile to get going because it needed to set the scene, but that helped to make the story more interesting and to get a reader invested in the characters. This book felt really long at points and that there was a lot going on. I enjoyed the overall book though and I could not figure out what would happen.

Natalie wins a huge lottery and she tries to keep it a secret from her husband but then he finds the ticket and all kinds of things start to happen. Lies, deceit, family members expecting a big chunk of the money. It did make me wonder what would happen if we WON the lottery in my family, how would people I know react? Probably the same way!! This was a slow burn of a thriller and some of the narrators in the audio really got on my nerves but I did enjoy the overall story. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review.

I listened to the audio book version of this twisted thriller. I was annoyed by some of the characters immediately and never really sympathized with any of them. Daisy being the worst with an incredibly irritating way of expressing herself. The story started slowly and continued that way throughout 75% of the book.

The main plot point was about a couple Natalie and Hayden. Natalie is frustrated with their lack of money and inability to make her dream of opening a coffee shop come true. She’s also worried that Hayden is cheating on her. Hayden has a work conference and Natalie books a room in the same hotel to check up on him.

She has won 12 million with a lottery ticket and wants to make sure that he is worthy of sharing the money with her.
She hid the lottery ticket and when Hayden comes home he finds it and she has to pretend she didn’t know it was a winning ticket.

They don’t keep it secret for long and it is revealed to the world that they have won. The bulk of the story is about how their friends and family react to this news and how it changes all of them. We meet Liz, Natalie’s sister, Natalie’s aging father, lots of their friends.

Their lives begin to unravel as the money takes over and causes all sorts of problems.

I thought everything was wrapped up a little too neatly. The “bad“ characters were too bad and almost cartoonish and some of the “good” characters seemed to change in ways that were unrealistic.

The last 25% of the book is where all the action lies. There is a twist I didn’t see coming but it feels forced and like I said before I never found myself being invested in any of the characters enough to care about them.

Thank you to NetGallery for this ARC copy of the audio book.

This one will keep you on your toes! Who can you trust? It seems like you can’t trust a single character in this novel! Every person you’re introduced to seems suspicious. Every time you think you’ve figured it out, there is another twist. This novel definitely kept me guessing/and ultimately getting it wrong. Put this book on your list if you need a good mystery that will leave you with your mouth agape.

Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to ARC read this title.

Wow! My head is spinning from all the twists throughout this psychological thriller! Secrets, infidelity, and millions of dollars prove to be a lethal combination. Be careful what you wish for. If things appear to be too good to be true, they probably are. Deception is deadly and betrayal is dangerous. Imogen Church’s narration masterfully brings this shocking story to life while adding a layer of suspense and intrigue. Entertaining and addictive! Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for my audiobook.

This book was super slow and while there are some good secrets, it just wasn’t for me. It was also confusing with different storylines that didn’t always seem like they belonged together. There are so many characters that made it hard to keep them straight, too!

Natalie has just won the lottery, 12 million is hers, but she’s unsure whether she should tell her husband. He finds the ticket and they are soon on the tv giving an interview. Natalie has a secret past though and it comes back to her when she finds a note. It’s a fast paced thriller, that keeps you engaged. The characters all fit into the story and it works well with the locations.

I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a great job, she was very well pronounced and great expression. She read the story well.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy.

Not even Imogen Church could save this one.

Where to begin? Let's start with the book description. I spent about half of the book wondering if I was reading the correct novel, they seemed so mismatched. I never did feel that it was an appropriate description, and one that I fear may lead to less than stellar reviews from confused and misled readers.

My second major gripe is with the pacing and structure. It came across as almost random at times. Like, Lorna Dounaeva wrote the book linearly, then tore that timeline up, shuffled the pieces, and re-wrote it in that order. I guess this was supposed to add to some feeling of tension/suspense, but it left me confused. This was more so because I find it harder to rewind and relisten to an audiobook than I find it to flip back through a paper book to reread a section for clarity.

Third, I don't know how I feel about some of these characters. I'm o.k. with not liking characters, even major ones. Some of these characters were just weird, and not in a good/quirky way. You need to have some kind of emotional investment in the characters, not just sigh and accept that, "oh, I guess we're talking to ___ now." I don't want any spoilers in this review, but let's just say that there were some clearly sociopathic behaviors that were completely overlooked for reasons that I could never quite figure out.

Finally, the ending was a hot mess. It was just bad. It was so bad, it featured a deus ex machina. And, it was completely random and abrupt. There was no closure, not even close. The ending is probably the biggest reason I'm only giving The Wife's Mistake one star. Since it's the last thing you read, it's the thing you remember the best, and the ending here was so very, very, extremely, bad.

Ugh.

Despite all this, I would still like to thank Bookouture Audio for allowing me to experience this NetGalley audiobook.

I dont know. It was interesting at times. but there was too much going on. One thing after another and the silly suspicion of the wife at the begining is just weired. Overall its not too bad. Its a domestic mystery. Fun to listen to.

Natalie and Hayden experience a life changing opportunity by winning the lottery. But true colors start to unravel between the two of them and their closest family and friends.

At some point in this book, EVERYONE was suspicious and I mean everyone! I felt this made the story drag a bit but in the end it was the development of characters and how things played out in the end where it really paid off.

I was able to to listen to the audiobook of this and felt i needed to listen at about 1.75 speed.

Thank you to NetGalley & Bookouture for this ARC!

This book was good, but some of it felt so unnecessary. I did enjoy the narration and the overall story, so I will be checking out more from this author.

When Natalie wins the lottery she chooses to keep it a secret from her partner, she has a niggling doubt that things might change between them. What she doesnt realize is that the secret will come out and it will pave way for more of her past to get revealed as well.

While Natalie is trying to protect so many things her partner Hayden is also working on hiding his own secrets!
Money does change a lot of things and most are circumstantial as well is what they had to know!

the most unexpected twist comes in the almost tail end of this book!! totally a one sitting read, this was an awesome ride!

Going into the book I thought it started out a little slow but once it picked up, I was hooked. The characters were both frustrating and relatable. There were so many twists and turns, I had no idea who to trust. As I read the book, I felt like I was on an emotional rollercoaster. There were times where it did not make sense why the couple wouldn't talk to each other so they could get on the same page and the miscommunication was starting to get old, but I didn't feel like it took away from the story. The ending blew my mind.
