"She's Not Sorry" by Mary Kubica is a slow-burn thriller that had me intrigued but left me wanting more. While the story starts off slowly, it gradually builds momentum, drawing you into the lives of the characters. However, I couldn't help but feel that some of the subplots didn't quite reach their full potential. The various threads, including the mystery surrounding Caitlin's fall, the MC's daughter's disappearance, and the attacks on local women, felt disjointed at times and left me with unanswered questions. While some twists caught me off guard, others fell flat, and I found myself wishing for a more exciting ending. Overall, "She's Not Sorry" is an enjoyable read with some intriguing elements, but it falls short of fully satisfying due to its unresolved subplots and lackluster ending in my opinion. Many readers will enjoy it but it hasn’t lived up to its expectations for me.
Very grateful to the publisher for this copy, opinions are my own.

You begin reading this story thinking that you kind of know which way it is going then halfway through...... BAM!!!!! And then you have no idea where it will lead. Plenty of twists and turns with a few sub plots to keep you going and overall, a good solid thriller. First time for me reading this author, but it won't be the last.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC to review.

This one didn't hit the mark for me but it may for you so read if you enjoy:
· Serial killers
· Narrators that do things that don't make sense
· Leopards that don't change their spots
· Excessive plot twists
· Not thinking too much about what you're reading

What didn't work for me;
- Everything got tidied up at the end too conveniently
- Two storylines running parallel - the side plot didn't seem too relevant or needed and made the overall story clunky
- The book felt unnecessarily long and there were a lot of repeated descriptions

"She's Not Sorry" was okay. I had high expectations going in because of the rave reviews I've been seeing on Instagram for months but until the first part ended, I kept wondering if I had the wrong book.

After that first twist, I was hooked and more invested in the story. There are multiple twists in the book some of which I could sense because of the foreshadowing and others I didn't see coming at all.

It's mostly a slow-burn novel where not a lot happens. I wasn't completely impressed with the twists as it's similar to a popular novel that came out a while back.

Overall, there were no likeable characters and it was a slow read with only the twist being memorable. But I'll be reading more of the author's works as I'm curious about her.

Thanks to Netgalley and HQ for the e-copy!

2.5/5

This was my first experience with a Mary Kubica book and I had high expectations. I’ve heard so much praise for her books and I can now say with confidence I am one of those now praising her. This book did not disappoint.

The book is told from the perspective of Megan a dedicated ICU nurse. It is a story told in 2 parts, the first part focuses on Megan whose balancing a teenage daughter, a divorce, a patient in the ICU who may have attempted suicide, a friend with a concerning home life and on top of all that someone is attacking vulnerable women in the city where Megan lives.

The second part - well I won’t say anything about the second part as I wouldn’t want to risk giving anything away. All I will say though is hold on tight for all the twists and turns.

The story did start off slow however I feel this was because the foundations needed to be put in place for the big reveals in part 2.

This was a fantastic psychological page turner that had me on the edge of my seat for most of part 2.

If you like authors such as Louise Candlish, Lisa Jewell and Alice Feeney then you’ll love this.

Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for this ARC.

Wow! This is another 5 star read from this very talented author Mary Kubica.
Meghan is an ICU nurse, she is recently divorced and has primary custody of her teenage daughter Sienna.
A young woman has been admitted to ICU, unconscious, suspected suicide and now in a coma, it is thought she jumped from a bridge over the train tracks. Her name is Caitlin and she is lucky to be alive. Meghan has been assigned her care, talks to her parents, becomes wrapped up in Caitlin’s life. The police are involved, did Caitlin jump? Was she pushed?
Outside hospital life but in the neighbourhood that Meghan and her daughter live, there has been a number of attacks on woman, danger lurks around every corner. At home Sienna is moody and secretive and Meghan can’t work out what her daughter is up to and what secrets she is hiding.
There is a lot going on, the aftermath of her divorce, domestic abuse, murder, anonymous notes, the disappearance of an old friend she has been in contact with recently.
The author very cleverly weaves together the different storylines and keeps the reader engrossed, the pages turn themselves. A twisty tale with some unsavoury, untrustworthy characters. The story is a slow burn, a thrilling read, full of suspense.
Many thanks to Net Galley and HQ for an ARC of this book in exchange for a review.

This book took a little while for me to get into. I felt it was a very slow start, but it did start to pick up towards the half way point. There were several smaller stories intertwined throughout the book (the girl in the ICU, the MCs daughter going missing, the attacks on local women etc) and each one felt like it was building up to a big finish. However, two of those sort of fizzled out, one with a slight twist that I admit I didn't see coming. The attacks on women part was the only one that seemed to have the big reveal that leaves you hanging on every word. I also felt there were a few loose ends when the book finished (what was up with Caitlin's parents, the man and woman who visited the ICU, the suicides etc)
Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the book. However, I just felt like there were some gaps needing to be filled in, and I felt like the ending could have been a bit more exciting.

Synopsis –

Meghan, an ICU nurse is recently divorced and is struggling to find work life balance. When a patient named Caitlin comes in with a coma due to traumatic brain injury having fallen off a bridge, Meghan is assigned her nurse. Speculations begin about the reasons behind her fall and questions are raised if she was pushed. This will test Meghan’s ability to detach emotionally from her patients as she finds herself completely entangled in Caitlin’s past, threatening her future.

Review –

Kubica has chosen a great premise for this thriller involving critical care nurses. It also shows she’s done a good amount of research about their psychology, the rippling effects of the pandemic and how it has affected the nurse community.

The pace during the first half is slow burn while Meghan’s life circumstances are introduced, while she gradually becomes Caitlin’s primary carer. We begin wondering how reliable she is and whom we should trust.

The atmosphere build up is tense, entrenched in a deep sense of foreboding. There is a side thread where the city is portrayed as unsafe, with a criminal on the loose attacking women. This further adds to the intensity with Meghan’s past slowly coming to light, the lies and the secrets she might be hiding peeking out.

By mid-way, the twists we patiently waited for finally arrive, blowing up everything we believed in our face. After this point, it gets hard to stop reading until the end.

Although the grand finale was predictable and slightly unrealistic, it didn’t hinder the overall thrill with few more surprises thrown in towards the end for good measure.

Do pick it up if you are a psychological thriller fan!

This was a strange read which played with time. The narrative seemed to be current but so much of it actually referred to previous events. Meghan is an ICU nurse caring for a woman in a coma. She has a good relationship with the family and seems to be a capable and caring nurse. However the story takes a turn when it’s revealed that the woman in a coma was someone who scammed Meghan. There is also a side story that comes in right at the end. A disjointed and clunky story that didn’t really work for me.

Really enjoyed this book, especially part one and part two with the amazing plot twist at the end. I often did wonder where this book was going to go but so glad I finished it

Meghan Michaels is a nurse in critical care, who is drawn to a young patient brought in after apparently jumping from a bridge in the city. As the story unravels we find many connections between the different characters - to say more would give away many of the twists and turns in the story.
Meghan is a likeable character, hard working, caring and struggling to bring up a teenage daughter alone. She is also forceful and strong willed and makes a good protagonist.
I found the book became a little sluggish in the middle with some repetition but it really ramps up towards the ending which is a crackling reveal.
A tense and twisty page turner.

Wow what a thriller, Mary Kubica had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. It is difficult to say what happens in the story as that would ruin all of the surprises. I really liked Meghan's character and felt her fears, her thoughts and feelings were well conveyed and you really got a sense of the other characters from her.

The plot is well paced and full of twists and turns, I will definitely be reading more from this author and hopefully there is a second book to tie up all the lose ends. Fingers crossed

Nurse Meghan Michael finds herself unexpectedly drawn to Caitlin Beckett, a young woman in a coma after jumping from a pedestrian bridge. Despite her efforts to maintain professional boundaries, Meghan becomes entwined in Caitlin and her parents' lives during their vigil at the hospital.

Meghan, the protagonist, navigates her own challenges as a divorced mother living in a precarious neighborhood plagued by crime. As tension mounts with suspenseful twists, it leaves you eager to explore more!

This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and I would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.

I’d like to thank HQ and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘She’s Not Sorry’ written by Mary Kubica in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

While on duty at the local hospital, nurse Meghan Michael is drawn to a new patient, a young woman called Caitlin Beckett who jumped from a pedestrian bridge and is in a coma. Caitlin’s parents spend every moment at their daughter’s bedside and although Meghan always tries to keep her work with patients and their families on a professional basis, she can’t help but become involved in the lives of Caitlin and her parents.

‘She’s Not Sorry’ is one of those novels where although there’s a lot going on, the story moves slowly with a lot more repetitive descriptions than are necessary. The main character is Meghan who’s divorced from Ben and lives with her teenage daughter Sienna in a third floor flat where the door won’t close and someone’s targeting the area to rape and steal from single women. There’s suspense and twists and turns but despite enjoying the author’s previous novels I couldn’t work up any enthusiasm for this one and jumped over some of the slower parts. It’s an interesting read with a compelling conclusion and despite not overly enjoying this novel I’ll look forward to reading Ms Kubica’s next one.

Mary Kubica can be a “hit or miss” author with me but this one is definitely a 5 star hit for me! Full of brilliant twists and turns this felt fresh and exciting from the first few pages and didn’t let up until the final epilogue. Loved it!

What a cracking read this was with an enormous twist that I just didn’t see coming. This was one of those stories that involve ordinary people with ordinary lives but out of the blue extraordinary things happen that turn their lives upside down. Meghan is a divorced intensive care nurse with a teenage daughter. She juggles her busy life and tries not to let the pressures from work and home cross over. At work a girl is rushed to her unit at the hospital after a failed suicide bid. She jumped from a bridge and is barely alive but Meghan carefully carries out her duties and supports the family. After work she attends a meeting for divorcees and is surprised to meet up with an old friend from school but shocked when she notices bruises on her face. Recognising domestic abuse, Meghan does her best to try and help her old friend. With further stress from a stroppy teenager and the fear that a serial rapist is carrying out attacks near her home Meghan is understandably exhausted but her life is just about to escalate into something way out of her comfort zone. An excellent story that had questions at the end but nothing that detracted this from being a tense and twisty page turner.

Meghan Michaels is trying to find a balance between being a single mum to a teenage daughter, and working as a full-time nurse. While on duty at the hospital one day, a patient named Caitlin arrives in a coma, having plunged from a bridge onto railway tracks below. But when a witness comes forward with shocking details about the fall, it calls everything they know into question, Was Caitlin pushed, and if so, by whom and why?

Meghan Michaels is an ICU nurse. She is currently caring for a patient, Caitlin, who had attempted suicide. I did feel there was some unnecessary content added to bulk the book out. There was suspense and at times it could be intense. This is a good whodunnit, and if you're clever enough, you'll work out who it was. I thought the ending was quick and a little bit abrupt.

I really enjoy Mary Kubica's writing and this book has such a great plot, I couldn't put it down so I could see how it would unfold and tell the story.

Kubica has a handle on how to instil intrigue and angst and I think the plethora of characters involved in this story was really interesting. My only issue with this book really was that it felt like there were a LOT of loose ends.

Ben - slight cliffhanger here
Luke - almost no character development but then had a huge storyline really.

What happened with the Beckett's? What happened with the Roommate. What happened with Milo? I just have TOO MANY QUESTIONS.

Will there be a book 2?

Sadly all these questions forced it to be a 3 star rating for me. But I'd still continue to read Kubica's work!

2* Not a pleasant female lead, and how she can live with herself...!

I wish I hadn't wasted my time on this. The lead may not be sorry but I'm sorry that I was taken in by the first 5 pages and settled in for what I thought would be a decent read, but what wasn't.
