Sweet and cute high school first love slow burn manga!
Hachi and Eito having names which are no.8 puns for everyone was an adorable way to meet!
Thank you NetGalley for the free copy!
This. Is the cutest one shot I’ve read in a while
Gosh. Highly recommend.
It’s a low angst romance set in high school and it’s so adorable.
Thanks NetGalley for the arc

thank you to kodansha comics and netgalley for an e-arc of this manga. all thoughts are my own and not influenced in any way.
this was a sweet romance between two high school students. but since this was the mangaka's first ever manga, it read super amateur-ish. i was also having a hard time distinguishing between the side characters and the main characters because they all looked the same to me 😭
i didn't enjoy this as much as i would have liked to. it was a sweet story but not my favourite. super low angst, same high school BL tropes and not much nuance. but it is her first manga so its not bad considering.
This was a cute story, but it also felt rushed at times. A few times the scene-changes could have used some context, as I was confused as to what was going on. For a first manga, and as a standalone, I think it works, but I would be hesitant to pick up another volume of this particular story. I am interested to see how this author's storytelling skills grow in future manga publications.
This is a really sweet BL one-shot that shows a lot of the recurring characterizations and vibes from Furuya's later works. The pacing is good and Eito and Hachi develop a nice relationship that leaves room for a sequel if Furuya decides to revisit her debut manga.
Thank you to NetGalley, Kodansha Comics, and Nagisa Furuya for the opportunity to read this manga in exchange for an honest review.
Eito and Hachi meet by chance and become friends over the connection their names have with the number eight. It's a slow build friendship of which the two eventually look into themselves to explore if those feelings go beyond friendship.
A unique meet-cute concept with the names, but other than that, very traditional slow burn. Nothing very physical between the characters explored in this story, but a wholesome story nonetheless.
This was a delight.
If you are a fan of nice slow burn, friends to lovers with no unnecessary drama, this is a perfect match. You can read it in an afternoon and have the rest of your day with a smile plastered on your face. Really heart warming.
Thanks for letting me read this manga.
I have become a big fan of sensei Nagisa Furuya. And I read this volume with great pleasure, the drawing style is always the same and I like it very much.
A slice of life of these two teenagers who always meet at school.
Super cute.
A lovely and fluffy story about two boys who meet by coincidence and slowly come to realisation that what they feel isn't just friendship.
Two boys who happen to have the number 8 in their name, one being fond of it and the other one hating it, because he gets teased about it since he was little, but after meeting Hatchi, Eito doesn't mind his name anymore, quite the opposite actually. But it wouldn't be a proper love romcom manga, without a little angst. As someone who is not a big fan of that I must say, it was a cute little plot device, no unnecessary dragging and fighting, just a little awkward boy who needed a few days to get his shit together. We even get a little peck in the end. All in all this one is just wholesome. I loved it and I'm sad, that I already finished reading it.
A well written and beautifully illuetrated book that tells the story of two teenage boys who fate had decided from the beginning they would meet. Funny it happened because of the coincidence of them both having the number eight in their names (Or do they?)
Perfect for fans of sweet romance, it's sure to keep you fkipping to the next page more than once.
Cute high school friends to lovers.
The art style matched the overall vibe of the setting and characters.
Too short to be more than a three, though.

Another great story from Nagisa Furuya! This was their first manga, and I am glad to see it getting an English translation! Whilst My Ultramarine Sky was a new favourite to me, this was another story I enjoyed, but not quite a new favourite.
I highly recommend checking this out when its released, its such a wholesome, cute story!
It's cute and the art is quite nice, but it gets repetitive with the constant discussion of name puns and not a lot happens. I don't regret reading it, but it left my head as soon as I finished.
This volume falls into the issue a lot of these standalone single volume romances tend to have, which is there is not enough space to really flesh things out and let the romance develop. They tend to either be much too fast or way too slow. This one falls into the slow category, with the relationship not really at the forefront until the very end of the book. There's some conflict, in the form of miscommunication, that is thrown in, but is overall unnecessary and cuts down on the already limited amount of time the main characters have to get together. The plot is nothing really new, and it was over all an unexciting read that I didn't really enjoy. Some readers out there may find interest in this type of story, but it was not for me.
Nagisa Furuya may write basically the same story in most of her books, but it's a good story. Her slow burn BL romances are, in my opinion, second to none, using body language and gentle emotions rather than kisses to tell the tale. This is her first book, and it's not as good as what comes later, but it's still a cozy, sweet romance that makes you smile.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an advance copy of this manga. It was a sweet, high school themed BL, I enjoyed reading it but ut was quite "safe", no twists or particular obstacles to the relationship's development. Soft and simple, nothing extraordinary, but a cute reading moment nonetheless.
Once you get past the constant conversation about names this is a very cute and sweet story. The characters have slow development and you feel the connection between them is real. I look forward to the second volume.
If you like Nagisa Furuya, well - rejoice, for we have another officially licensed English translation of her short but really enjoyable romances! I like them for the balance between wistfulness and humor, a sense of freshness when following long-familiar beats of a highschool budding romance. This one is no different -- I enjoyed it loads. It's not my absolute favourite of hers, but it's a solid one.
Thank you to Netgalley and Kodansha for providing a copy of early review.
This was super cute! It's a very sweet high school romance in which two high school boys that bond over the fact that they're names are vaguely similar to the number 8, and slowly develop a friendship that turns into romantic feelings. I thought the third-act conflict and confession scenes were really well done and gave me the big feelings I look for in romance.
Eito and Hachi both have “eight” in their names. They meet by chance when Hachi finds Eito’s test paper and remarks on his name. Their commonality helps them become fast friends. However, things turn awkward when they both realize their true feelings. Can Eito and Hachi overcome their awkwardness before graduation?
NUMBER CALL is a cute and wholesome read. There are no explicit scenes. The romance is more slow burn than raunchy. Eito reminds me of Uenoyama from Given, especially his behavior once he realizes his true feelings for Hachi.
I also enjoyed the mangaka’s art style.
