This is a fun and happy book with great characters and an amusing plot. I could not stop reading and I'm starting to think Leonie Mack is one of my favourite authors this year.
I love the characters and I love their amazingly chaotic journey to the wedding. I loved following them falling in love and managing everything. I love the kids and the main couple but I wasn't a big fan of Monica, Dan or the rest of the extended family. They were very selfish and simply annoying.
The ending is lovely and even better than what I could have hoped for. It made me happy and now I'm waiting eagerly for the Christmas season.
A delightful comedy! Not my typical read but one I enjoyed every minute of. So much fun packed into one book!
First of all thank you for approving my request!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The authors writing style had me hooked throughout this book.
I didn't want it to end, a book I really couldn't put down.
A Wedding in the Sun by Leonie Mack is a delightful summer read that will take you on a journey filled with romance, laughter, and unexpected adventures. The story is about Jo Watters, who travels to Spain for her ex-husband Ben's wedding to Monica. Jo's plans for a quick and uneventful trip are turned upside down when she finds herself on the same plane as Monica's ex-husband, the charming yet irritable Adrián. And so the story begins ....
This is the third of Leonie Mack’s books I’ve read and I’ve really enjoyed them all.
I loved the premise of this one; the ex partners invited to their respective exes’ impending nuptials- I mean what could possibly go wrong?
Quite a lot it seems and way before they even reach the wedding destination!
I loved the way the plot brought so many things together- the separated parent guilt, the grief of losing a long-term relationship, self doubt and then the ability to find yourself again and invite new beginnings.
There is plenty of emotion in this but it is cleverly woven with humour and several mishaps to keep it a light and easy read.
It’s impossible not to like Jo and Adrian and I really enjoyed seeing their relationship grow over the course of their journey to Zaragoza.
A lovely summer read!
With thanks to the author, Rachel at Random Resources and Boldwood Books for the opportunity to participate in the tour.
Full of romance and optimism.... and of course a breath-taking location. what's not to love? A perfect summer read.
Leonie Mack’s A Wedding in the Sun is a magical romantic read that sparkles with humour, heat and charm.
Jo Watters would sooner stick pins in her eyes than go the her ex-husband’s destination wedding. Her former hubby is marrying a woman who would make a Stepford Wife look shabby and Jo is only attending the nuptials for the sake of her children. Jo is already not looking forward to this wedding and as luck would have it, her ex’s soon-to-be wife’s former husband, the dashing Adrián, is on the same plane as her. Jo thinks this trip couldn’t possibly get any worse – until bad weather forces their plane to make an emergency landing and she ends up sharing a hotel room with Adrián!
The two of them know that they cannot miss this wedding, so they try to do everything they possibly can to get to the ceremony in time. Thrown together by fate in the most unlikely of circumstances, Jo and Adrián start getting to know each other and realise that they’ve got more in common than they thought! Will romance kindle in the most unlikely of settings? Or will Jo and Adrián be too scared to take a leap of faith and a chance on love?
Leonie Mack’s A Wedding in the Sun is a delightful and delicious contemporary romance that I couldn’t read quickly enough! A witty and enchanting grumpy vs sunshine read with two wonderful characters with red-hot chemistry, A Wedding in the Sun is a hugely enjoyable romance by Leonie Mack it is impossible not to swoon over!
What would you do if you were forced to attend your ex's wedding to support your children during the transition and you were stuck traveling with your ex's fiancé's ex!?! LOL! This book is absolutely hilarious with antics and shenanigans galore that keep setting the pair of ex's further back from the arrival to the destination wedding from heck! I laughed out loud, growled with frustration on behalf of the characters, shed a few tears and ended back at laughing again! The characters are well written in an enemies-to-lovers trope with a unique spin. This author has truly outdone other enemies-to-lovers with a bit of close proximity love mixed in! The characters are wonderfully crafted with perfect personalities that actually celebrate the flaws of the characters to make them even more realistic. The plot is well crafted and reads wonderfully well! I absolutely can't wait to see what this author comes up with next to entertain and delight me with!
This one I started without knowing that the main characters would be that old. I mean it's not that much but it's not really the ideal age we often see in the books. It's okayish I suppose.
Loved this book was such a fun story from beginning to end. Never a dull moment!!
As always Leonie sucks u in and gives u a wild ride of emotions!
I’ll def be recommending this book forever!!
I always want to start my reviews by thanking the author and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this book early. I really wanted to like this book. Don't get me wrong, I did like it, but it didn't quite live up to the high hopes I had for it based on the description.
This story made me laugh so much. It was fun and kept me wondering what would happen next. The perfect summer read
Jo Watters is headed to Spain to attend her ex-husband's wedding, along with his soon-to-be bride's ex-husband who she battled in PTA a few years back. She thinks things are bad until bad weather forces them to land on the wrong side of the Pyrenees and they keep being thrust together by various mishaps.
It's an enemies-to-lovers, beach read set in Italy. I love the descriptions of the scenery of the area, the Spanish lifestyle, and the flamenco guitar. Overall, a fun beachy read with great main characters and wonderful descriptions. Some of the problems were over the top, but the story was fun and there were some serious themes dealt with like the aftermath of divorce and the children's emotions.
Thanks to @boldwoodbooks, @netgalley and the author for this ARC
This book was hilarious. Just when you think these two people's lives couldn't get any worse, hold your beer it does. The stunts that the couple are put through during this book are so witty and well thought out. I enjoyed the plot line of the exes getting married and the other two exes having to be involved. I found it to be very unique. I also love the setting of being in Spain/France. It was the perfect summer read. I can absolutely see myself on the beach reading through the many twists and turns of this book. It also has a really nice ending. I'm not a fan of open ended endings and this one was wrapped up nicely. There is just enough drama, love, and all things hysterical.
Leonie Mack’s books are always cinematic, vivid and vibrant and as alive as any rom com movie and this book had it all- the scene absolutely set, the perfect of two characters who learned so much about themselves and each other on their journey, the intricacies of language, music and culture, the sparkling romance somehow inter tangled with comedy. Fantastic!
One thing I absolutely love love LOVE about Leonie Mack's books is that they're so very romantic, yes, but they're also so real. I mean, throwing up in the car and having a hunk of a man take care of you? Yes? Also Leonie is an utter goddess, when it comes to writing books with random/multiple/different European cities as settings. I love her descriptions and they always make me want to go on a city trip ASAP. Pair that with witty dialogue, lovable characters and love, love love! As always, A Wedding in the Sun was an utter delight!
Aww. This was cute and fun. Jo and Adrian had such a good chemistry and banter. I love the international settings of Leonie’s books and how she always manages to incorporate cultural tidbits alongside a love story. Beautifully written and very engaging!
A Wedding in the Sun is a perfectly delightful book about Jo and Adrián whose exes are getting married to each other. Although they know one another, they are basically only acquaintances. Jo's impression is not that great to begin with and seeing Adrián argue with the desk clerk at the airport didn't exactly help her impression. As luck would have it, they are on the same flight and have to acknowledge one another. Also, as luck would have it, the plane has to land unexpectedly and Jo and Adrián join forces to try to get to their children who are already with their exes at the destination wedding venue in Spain. Their trip is filled with anything but luck and only one bed. There is one crisis after another. This book is written so well that even though all the stuff that happens to them is pretty unbelievable, you believe it anyway. I am not one for insta love, but I did enjoy this. These characters are older and dealing with a grief of sorts as they watch their former partners go on with their lives. I loved the road trip setting as they traveled through France and Spain over the Pyrenees Mountains. Adrián's character while described as grumpy at first is actually quite adorable. His ex-wife missed out! I hope romance lovers who enjoy older characters will check this book out.
My sincere thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read A Wedding in the Sun. I have given my unbiased opinion of it in this short review.
Thank you to NetGalley, Boldwood Books and the author for a digital ARC of this book. Jo is very
reluctantly on her way to Spain to attend the wedding of her ex-husband Ben and the very glamorous
Monica. She is trying her best to be supportive of her teenage son and daughter and doing her best to smooth their way into life with a stepmother and little stepbrother. From the minute Jo spots Monica’s very handsome and moody ex Adrian on the plane, one fiasco after another unfolds. The two are forced to share a hotel room after their plane is diverted due to stormy weather, hitch a ride with motorcyclists though the Pyrenees and deal with Adrian’s injured shoulder. Not to mention hunger and a valuable missing guitar! Along the way, they share confidences and start to fall in love. This book is well written and flows smoothly. The characters are well developed and very likable. Beautiful settings are very descriptively described; I was ready to book a flight to Spain! Highly recommend this book to readers looking for a beach read with substance, and, yes, there is a happy ending!
4 exes and a destination wedding... what could go wrong with that?!
Much to Jo's dismay, she’s heading to Spain to attend the wedding of her ex-husband Ben to Monica. It’s the last place she wants to be, but she’s promised to go for the sake of her kids and their soon -to-be blended family. She finds herself on the plane to Spain with Monica's ex-husband Adrián who is also attending the wedding. Jo isn’t exactly fond of Adrián due to their past disagreements in the PTA, but when their plane is forced to land on the wrong side of the Pyrenees due to bad weather, they end up teaming up to make it to the wedding on time for the sake of their children. Unfortunately, they encounter several mishaps along the way and end up spending more time together than they anticipated.
A Wedding in the Sun is a cute enemies-to-lovers rom-com with an original premise. While the book mainly keeps a lighter tone, it addresses some significant topics such as starting over after divorce and the impact divorce has on the children involved including the addition of step-parents and step-siblings. These topics were handled very well and were realistically portrayed throughout the story. The evolution of Jo and Adrián’s relationship never felt forced although it did progress rather quickly considering the book takes place in a very short period of time. The setbacks along the way became a little OTT and excessive for my taste, but I liked the way Jo and Adrián handled each issue. I especially liked the way their children’s emotions were dealt with and addressed. In the end, I liked Jo and Adrián as a couple and wanted them to make things work. This was my first Leonie Mack book but I am definitely interested in checking out some of her previous books. 3.5 stars 💫
