Yoga for Pelvic Floor and Postpartum Health, by Rebecca Weisman; Meagen Satinsky is an important book about the pelvic floor health for All women. Not only for postpartum women, this can prevent health problems for menopausal women as well.
I was so excited to see this book pop up on my computer. As a former nurse, and now mom/athlete/yogi, this seemed right up my alley. I will begin by saying I believe the review copy I received in exchange for an honest review had some formatting issues, which perhaps limited me taking it in to its full extent--images misaligned, for example. But I think this is an important book, something we need more of out there. I had hoped it would go into more detail regarding what is safe for women with pelvic floor issues, but I still really thought this was a solid book on this topic, and I would recommend it.
Yoga for Pelvic Floor and Postpartum Health does a fantastic job for those interested in learning the anatomy that we were never taught about in yoga class. Highly recommend.
I am not postpartum but I was interested in reading this because of the focus on pelvic floor exercises. Some of the explanations were quite complicated but there was a lot of good information throughout. I would recommend this to any woman with an interest in this kind of yoga, whether postpartum or otherwise.
Thank you NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was very informational and helpful. I have strong background in healthcare, so the information was very approachable for me, but some people may have difficultly understanding everything that is in this book.
Pelvic health is a hot topic right now as pelvic floor physical therapy rightfully takes the stage as a crucial component of routine postpartum care. This book is an excellent guide to explain how to improve pelvic floor health and includes photos and evidence based science.
Thank you NetGalley and North Atlantic Books for this eCopy to review
I found the first part of this book very dense and difficult to understand. The second part where the exercises are explained was much more accessible and has helped me improve my pelvic floor. A great help for all those who need it, not just those who have newly given birth.
Thank you to NetGalley, Rebecca Weisman, Meagen Satinsky, and North Atlantic Books for giving me the opportunity to read this amazing ARC!
Let me just say - I absolutely love this book!
Even though I haven't given birth yet, I'm someone who is experiencing pelvic floor issues. When I saw this book, I wanted to give it a try, and I was pleasantly surprised. This book has been tremendously helpful in understanding pelvic floor anatomy and function, as well as how to address specific problems. Whether you're postpartum, experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction, or simply interested in pelvic floor health, this is a fantastic resource!
Thank you, Rebecca Weisman and Meagen Satinsky, for writing such a helpful book!
This is a very detailed book beginning with the necessary information about the body. Remebering the terminolgy was difficult and made me fully aware of what a doctor must o through learning so many latin names for the whole body and not just a tiny specific area. The book is broken down well and leads the reader into weekly yoga poses to assist with the pelvic floor. The poses grow in ability with helpful variations to ensure that the bst success is created by the exercises. There are many helpful hints and the final section highlights many other special issues that need further reinforcement exercises and understanding.
This is a book that should be givn to all women during the latter stages of their pregnancy so that they can read in peace, relaxing but getting so much information about how best to help themselves get back to normal with pelvic muscles and eare all behaving as they should.
Great book.
I will definitely be buying this book when it comes out in August!
I really enjoyed learning about the pelvic floor muscles and what can hurt/be painful after childbirth. I am not healing as quickly as I did the last time so the validation that this is normal but here is how to heal it was fabulous. I really enjoyed the description with the pictures. This book needs to be in physical form. It was unuseable (the pictures were not working) on my Kindle but easier on my phone. I still think it needs to be in print when reading and using.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!
I was very excited to receive this book. I have been in pelvic floor therapy for almost 2 years now, and found this book Extremely helpful with identifying muscle groups to isolate.. As someone with proprioception issues, hypermobility,
and neurodivergence, - I found The pictures and text explanations helped paint a visual for me. I have also been wanting to do more yoga to help my body continue with postpartum recovery. Even if I’m 3 years out, I’ve noticed my pelvic pain and anxiety improving since utilizing even the smallest techniques in this book. I think it is important to note that I am a nurse familiar with medical terminology. This book has plenty of that within it.. I think this book could be used as a healing tool from start to finish or a reference for areas in your pelvic floor that bother you. There are probably muscle groups involved you didn’t even realize helped stabilize! 4.5 stars from me!
Yoga for Pelvic Floor and Postpartum Health by Rebecca Weisman and Meagan Satinsky is a comprehensive guide for women of all ages. It includes illustrating that will serve as very informative. Such a rare find in the genre. A must have!
This book was super informative. It includes very detailed information about the pelvic flood, different muscles, and how to evaluate where your pelvic floor is at. It gives a very good overview of anatomy and different parts of the pelvic floor. The different yoga poses are broken up into different phases to help get you started which is helpful! There are detailed pictures of each pose and descriptions of each pose. The only thing that could have made this better would be to include ability to watch videos of poses or have pictures of poses from different angles. I would recommend this book!
Amazing book. I am a new Yoga Teacher and also struggle with Endometriosis. The information and poses in this book are fantastic. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to read this before publication. I will be sharing this with my yogi friends. Thank you so much.
Very helpful and informative read. I will be recommending this to women of all ages. Books on this topic are so hard to come by. The images and descriptions are super helpful.
I feel strongly that Yoga for Pelvic Floor and Postpartum Health is a text that should be recommended, if not provided, to every person newly postpartum. Thank you so much, North Atlantic Books and NetGalley, for providing a digital ARC. So much of this information is presented in greater depth than I've seen or received from a health professional in many ways. The diagrams are very helpful in truly breaking down the many layers that make up the Pelvic Floor system, many of which can be directly effected by pregnancy and require special consideration once postpartum. While I have a personal history and exposure to Yoga, I was able to gather a sense that someone even new to the practice would be able to effectively and safely perform movements at their own pace, The weekly focuses really helped align one for success, always reiterating to do what is most comfortable and offering many variations with photos. I found the final section to be helpful in personalizing the course: there are recommendations for specific conditions and even screening questions that you can refer too. Really well done, totally recommend, this title is excellent for those who like a home based approach to specialized strength training particular to pelvic floor and core strength safe for postpartum. These opinions are my own formed by my own understanding of the text.
As a mom of three who experienced vaginal birth with each of my children I felt this book speaking directly to me. I found this book to be both informative and easy to follow. I really like how it shows both the anatomy of our pelvic floor and step by step approach that is broken down practically. The exercises are easy to follow along with and you really feel them helping. This is a book I feel I can use more than once and I can gift to other moms to be. I feel grateful for this book.
Where was this book a year ago! I have had multiple abdominal surgeries and I was a mess of scar tissue and malfunctioning nerves and pain. My doctor referred me to a Pelvic Floor Therapist. Many of the therapies, exercises and advice given here are the same I received. I am very thankful this book has been published so more women can get the help they need post-partum or post surgery. I will be referring to this book very often on my healing journey.

Truth, this book goes too far in my 4 years of training and my Lineage Tree is very close to Iyengar, never have i hear half of what these ‘trained yogis’ are talking about, in no way is sexual acts relabeled as ‘perineal scar message’ with graphic photos.
READ - Surviving Modern Yoga! This book speaks about the red flag in these practices and the sexualization that occurs. These authors made this books point, Surviving modern yoga is on NetGalley.
This book was informative, included lots of helpful photographs and gave a good overview of the topic. I wish there were more resources like this after I gave birth. I appreciated the specific instructions and guidance for different situations or conditions. For myself, the sections on c-sections and diastasis recti were appreciated.
We need more resources like this one to help women heal and get active again after pregnancy. I know this will be in demand in my library system.
