Tropes: grumpy/sunshine, boss/employee, professional athlete (hockey)

My Lucky Charm is a sweet, heartwarming, hockey romance with the slowest of slow burns. The characters are lovable, the banter is hilarious and the connection between Eloise and Gray is absolutely magnetic. Four swoony stars!

My Lucky Charm is a hockey player x assistant romance that follows Eloise and Gray as they navigate their feelings towards each other in a workplace setting. When Eloise is dumped and fired by her ex boyfriend, she seeks out a random man for a New Year’s kiss. That man turns out to be Gray, a new hockey player that was just traded to the Chicago team. Eloise ends up becoming his assistant and they work to fight their feelings for each other.

This book was so cute! I really enjoyed their banter and watching them interact and fight their feelings. It’s definitely a slow burn with very little spice. There is a plot point / trope (no spoilers) that I am normally not a fan of but it didn’t annoy me in this book as much as it usually does. I found it endearing. The plot definitely keep me entertained. I didn’t read book 1 in this series and this book made me add it to my never ending tbr.

This was such a fun grumpy/sunshine book. I always love opposites attract stories and Walsh threw in some fun extras with this one.

I also loved the continuation of the Hart sisters and seeing more of Poppy and Dallas.

If you love a touch of hockey, close knit families, and a bit of workplace romance you're going to love this book!

I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley. This is my honest review.

This was such a sweet book, I absolutely loved it!! It gave me all the warm, squishy feels and had me actually laughing out loud several times! I'm a sucker for the grumpy/sunshine trope and this was the grumpiest/sunshiniest pairing you could ever hope for!

“I’m a people person. We couldn’t be more different. We’re not apples and oranges, we’re apples and cactuses. He the cactus in the scenario.”

This is the ultimate grumpy/ sunshine story. Eloise is happy, cheerful, and loves with her whole heart. Gray, however, is a broody, silent, stone face hockey player with quite a reputation.

“Eloise is a little like a golden retriever. You can mistreat her over and over again, but she stays loyal and kind. Her heart is so big it gets her into trouble.”

“Feelings and emotions make you weak. Focus makes champions.”

This motto is how he lives his life, as he has been taught since he was practically a toddler.

When the 2 are forced together in a work environment, it goes exactly as you think it might. But- the chemistry is real, and they try hard to hide it.

I’m not a hockey fan, at all. But a happy and clean rom-com story is always a good way to reset and enjoy reading. This one checked all the boxes, and I enjoyed it.

NetGalley sent me the ebook, but the opinion is my own.

I loved My Phony Valentine, so I've been eagerly awaiting this second book in the Holidays with Hart series. We met Eloise in the first book while we read about her sister Poppy, and now it's time for Eloise to get a love story of her own!

Eloise is the youngest Hart sister, a sweet people-pleaser who thinks every relationship is The One.

Courtney Walsh promised us the grumpiest of grumps, and she certainly delivered! I was in love with Gray from the start, and only adored him more after his backstory was revealed. He might be my new favorite MMC! Sunshine and grump is one of my favorite tropes, and it was SO well done in this book. Eloise and Gray complimented each other perfectly. I loved how focused each was on making the other one happy, even before they admitted that they liked each other.

I'm looking forward to Raya's love story, and can't wait to see which holiday Walsh chooses to set it around! Pick this one up for a fun, lighthearted romance that's sure to make you swoon.

Swoon worthy romance. GrumpyxSunshine is one of my favourite tropes. Found the characters to be really likeable and watching their growth through the book. Good pacing and overall plot.

My Lucky Charm was such a fun, sweet and playful romcom. After being traded teams to Chicago, and without family or friends, Gray is determined to stay closed off, and focus only on Hockey. Bubbly sunshine-y Eloise is bought in as his assistant to help repair his image and make him feel at home in Chicago.

I loved Gray and Eloise’s chemistry, but they also felt really well rounded and authentic as characters. Both were sensitive and reflective, and I found myself really invested in their story. The cast of side characters were wonderful - Eloise’s protective sisters, Scarlet and the hockey team. The story was warm and lighthearted, with plenty of heart and just the right amount of depth.

It read really well as a standalone, however I’ll be adding Poppy’s story to my tbr and keeping my eye out for Raya’s!

Thank you Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op and Sweethaven Press, and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed are my own.

My Lucky Charm is the second book in the Holidays with Hart series. I have not yet read the first one, but had no problem reading this as a standalone.

This was just a joy to read. It was a fun, feel-good, heartwarming read. I really liked the setting, the banter, and the family dynamics, and I enjoyed seeing the different relationships develop.

Here’s hoping there will be a third book, but meanwhile, I’m off to read the first one.

Thanks so much to NetGalley, Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op and Sweethaven Press for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

I absolutely ADORED this book!! it has sooooo many great book tropes all put into one and just beautifully written. This book had me giggling, cackling and KICKING MY DAMN FEET. I definitely think I found another favorite Rom-Com author to add to my list. I am very excited to read the 1st book in this series because I loved Poppy and Dallas!! (I have a tiktok edited and in my drafts. I am going to post on 3/1)

My Lucky Charm is the second book in the Holidays with Hart series. While this could be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the first book to get familiar with the other characters.

While I thought I loved Dallas Burke, Grayson Hawke was just unbelievably perfect. The most grumpiest of grumps and it just made the personality of his character. Eloise is the ray of sunshine and happiness that everyone should want on their side in life!

Grayson is traded from his hockey team in Philadelphia to the Chicago Comets. Eloise was just dumped and fired by the same man. So when the coach of the Comets offers Eloise a job assisting the new, hot player, she jumps right in at the chance to prove to her self she can do this. Back tracking a few weeks earlier to NYE, Eloise approaches a dreamy, but rude stranger at the bar asking to help her out to make her ex jealous and kiss her when the clock strikes midnight. So now when Grayson shows up at her parent’s house for dinner where Eloise will meet the new player, she is completely shocked to find that Grayson Hawke was the guy from the bar!

Will Eloise’s sunshine personality help bring out the best in Gray?

My Lucky Charm is a must read and out now!

Also, it felt like this was set up for another book for the 3rd Hart sister, Raya. I really hope that happens!

Thank you @netgalley, @courtneywalsh, @victoryeditingngc for providing me with this ARC in exchange an honest review.

I absolutely loved this book!! Nothing will hook me faster than a mega grump. And Gray is the ultimate grumpy hero! Gray and Eloise are just perfection! Eloise is an absolute gold retriever. And it suits her so well! She is a rambler and is is endearing. And Gray loves it! Which makes it even better. Especially because he communicates in grunts and growls. But she pulls out the softer side of him. But it doesn’t make him weaker, unlike what his dad told him. It strengthens him. You can be stronger with the perfect someone by your side.

The story was so well done! We slowly learn what makes Gray the way he is. And the same with Eloise. The mesh so well together!

My faves:
🏒 Found Family
🏒 Grumpy/Sunshine
🏒 Meddling tween daughter
🏒 Hockey Team mates who don’t give up on you!
🏒 Golden Retriever FMC
🏒 Sign Names-Hilarious!
🏒 Hockey Romance

It lost me in the end, I have to confess that I adored Eloise from the beginning, even when she seemed a little childish to me she managed to win me over and believe in her super sunshine energy, and Gray was the perfect grump who can't stop responding with grunts through the whole book and I completely love that. I love when a character doesn't leave their essence throughout the story.
.
It really became addictive to turn page after page, discover Chicago through a character who loves the city and tries to make other people fall in love with it and make it their home.
.
Although there is a lot of angst, like “will they, or not” it is a perfect slow burn, but I got a little lost at the end and I really came to hate Raya, the older sister, I strongly believed that Eloise was going to put her in her place. And Hockey, I love Hockey romances and chats between team mates, they were so funny and really lift up the book
.
I also found it a bit extended but I can't complain as it kept me hooked on the story and I read it almost without pausing.
.
Thanks to Courtney Walsh for give a copy of this beautiful book in exchange for my honest and voluntary opinion

Loved the writing and enjoyed the premise of this Hockey romance. It is a definite extreme grumpy x sunshine, these two characters were on opposites ends of the spectrum!
The book is fun, light and easy to read and I recommend it as just that you can't really go wrong, this is book two but can certainly be read out of sync or on it's own...I certainly did and it didnt impact my enjoyment.
This is not anything new and wont be one that I shall remember forever but that's OK this is purely for fun and the characters are likeable enough to enjoy in the moment.

I received this book as an ARC and have provided an honest review

My Lucky Charm is such a wonderful story! I love that Courtney Walsh has said that she decided to start writing book that she would want to read, and that she wanted her books to spread joy. This is exactly what My Lucky Charm does best!

Let me start with Eloise. She is just such a good person. I love her enthusiasm and happiness! Her sister calls her a golden retriever, and that's the best description. She loves with her whole heart, is loyal, and makes friends wherever she goes.

And Gray. I just want to give him a hug. He's carrying around so much anger and hurt but he's such a good guy! I loved his interactions with Eloise as she wore down that tough exterior!

I absolutely loved their meet cute at the beginning of the book. It's amazing. And I also give a shout out to the other Hart sisters, Raya and Poppy. These three sisters balance each other out and it really feels like an authentic sister relationship. I love that they call it a Hart to Hart to Hart when they get together to talk!

I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a hilarious romcom with some depth to the characters, to anyone who loves grumpy/sunshine, and to anyone who loves a clean happily ever after!

This is the second book of the Holidays with Hart books. It could work as a stand-alone, but I would personally recommend reading My Phony Valentine first!

Thank you to NetGalley, Courtney Walsh, and Victory Editing for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest opinions! Book releases on 2/29/24

This was such a cute and funny read! I loved how light-hearted My Lucky Charm was, and especially loved all of the characters. I read this as a stand alone but can't wait for Raya's book. This is definitely a slow-burn, and I would've loved a little more spice between our two main characters. But overall, I think it was really well written and a fun read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Victory Editing for the ARC!

to start this off, I would like to thank NetGalley, Courtney Walsh, and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for granting me access to this book in exchange for an honest review!🍀

This book was one of the most adorable reads I have read this year!!🍀 there’s just something about a grumpy man I love so much🤭 Grayson was probably the most adorable grumpiest man I’ve ever read about! and Eloise!!?? Are you kidding me??? Just her name sounds like such sunshine you already know you’re gonna instantly love her!🥺 I adored reading about every character in this book and the dynamic between all of them! Especially Scarlett! Literally the cutest kid ever! What I loved most about this book was that we really focused on Gray and Eloise’s connection through talking and not all that spice that comes with a lot of books. We really felt them connect you know? Gray having trouble communicating his feelings and slowly finding his way to do that was so specially to read🥺🍀

To Courtney Walsh, I cannot wait for Rayas book and what you have in store for her🤭🫶🏻

In a bid to make her ex jealous and to also not be the only one without a partner to kiss on New Year's at a bar, Eloise talked a stranger into planting one on her. She thought she wouldn't see him again, but he turned out to be Grayson Hawke, the newest player of the Chicago Comets, and her new boss.

The team hired her to help Gray acclimate. Eloise was sunshine personified so his grumpiness definitely stood out. He had it ingrained in him that love was a distraction that he couldn't afford to indulge in. She dove in headfirst when it came to feelings but having been jaded by her former boss, she didn't want a repeat.

I could feel Gray's with frustration as he warred with his heart and while I sympathized, it was all for a good cause 😂 Eloise wore her heart on her sleeve. It had caused her pain, and I loved how her sisters helped her get through and deal with the heartache. I loved how it all wrapped up, with Gray showing her how much he treasured her for being such a bright light in his life.

The Comets were such a vibe in this one. I loved how they got all up in Gray's business. I also loved meeting new characters and seeing others from book one.

Thank you to Netgalley and Publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The 2nd book in the Holidays with Hart series brings us the story of Eloise, the youngest Hart sister. Eloise is such a relatable character in many ways-youngest sibling who constantly feels like she will never be as good as her two older sisters, unsure of what career path she wants to take, and she has a big heart and always strives to see the best in people which causes her to feel like she must always be "on" or happy. When she gets hired to be the assistant to the newest hockey player on the Chicago Comets, she had no idea it would be for the stranger she shared a kiss with on New Year's Eve, Grayson. He has problems of his own-being traded by a team that he thought he would retire in, always living up to the high standards set by his dad growing up (relationships make you weak and if you make mistakes we do it until you don't), and moving away from a daughter he loves with all his heart. He tries to fight the connection he has with Eloise, especially since she is his assistant, but remembers that kiss from New Year's Eve and hasn't been able to stop thinking about her since. This was truly a roller coaster of emotions! I really enjoyed getting to know these two characters and their personal, emotional, and professional struggles. This was honestly a great example of why romance books are so much deeper than people think. This one deals with familial relationships, personal and professional growth, vulnerability, fighting toxic masculinity, and finding your place in the world. It was an amazing read that I will definitely be recommending and reading over again many times! Thank you NetGalley for giving me an arc copy in exchange for an honest review!
