Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely adored the concept of this book. It sounded so cool and upon reading the synopsis I really wanted a copy of the book.
The idea of different zodiac animals being guardians of the universe was fun to read about. This was a great quick-paced middle grade.
Unfortunately for me, I felt as though the book was really rushed. Everything happened super quickly and jumped forward at such a fast pace it was hard to keep up. This made me feel quite bored reading it. However, I kept reading in the hopes that I would get hooked and the book would become engaging. Sadly for me, it didn't.
Also, for the book being written for 6-10 year old, some of the language seemed quite advanced.
Overall, I felt like the book was missing some world building and the characters could have been developed a little more. If there was an extra 50-100 pages in this book, it would have been a much more enjoyable read.
This was a 2 star read for me.
This was an exciting book to read. We see this small group of heroes arrive in a kingdom unlike anything they have ever seen before. The place is beautiful and it is where one of them grew up many years ago. It was also a place where something tragic happened, and it has been hard for this hero to let the pain of it go. When they learn the truth about what really happened back then, it takes them by surprise. Just when someone is about to do something drastic, instead something magical ends up occurring. As this tale comes to a close, it becomes clear the adventure is far from over.
The concept was interesting. The story had a lot of potential. I wanted to like it, I really, really did but it wasn't for me, unfortunately!!
A group of five predestined Guardians are responsible for safeguarding the five values of Kindness, Justice, Decorum, Wisdom, and Faithfulness. In this story, they go to the deep ocean where dragons and other mysterious creatures live. Princess Lu sees her uncle who became king after her father was attacked and killed. She lived with him and his son. Princess Lu was told that her mother wasn’t dead but held hostage by someone in the deep. Princess Lu decided to try to find her mother in the deep. Only she didn’t find her but ended up becoming one of the predestined guardians. Will Princess Lu find out the truth about her parents death? When Princess Lu goes down into the deep with the other Guardians, she will discover secrets not known to her. Princess Lu, she gains an audience with the queen of Nomomos. The story includes a war fought between the dragons and Nommos.
The author has written an exciting adventure. It is a story of courage, friendship and kindness. There is some sadness. The relationships between the guardians grow stronger as they realize that they are a family. They will continue on to a new journey.
I was very impressed and captivated by this story. I kept reading it to find out what happened. This is the story of The Five or the Guardians of Zodiacland. Each has a value. There is Kindness, Justice, Decorum, Wisdom, and Faithfulness. This book centers around Luo who has a mystery on the death of her Father. Luo is the value of Kindness and from Dragon City originally. She goes head on to meet her fears and find out what actually happened to her Father. While doing that she learns alot about herself and her new family of the Guardians. It is a heartwarming tale of emotions and wonder. This is the second book in the series and I will definately be reading the first one. In addition to a great story the illustrations are absolutely beautiful and helps to pull the reader in to the plot and visualize all the characters. I recommend this book for ages 6 and up and readers 8 and up.
