Brilliant! Back with Win and Myron on their adventures. Back to the series and back to the fast paced story that is difficult to put down that makes me a Harlan Coben fan.. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was (as is evident) glad to see the pair back to work. 'Win' the back story was lacking this, I think. That's all I need to say, except I can't wait for the next.
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC.
When I requested to read this book I didn’t realise it was part of a series and even worse that it was book 12…oops!!
However, that first chapter totally had me hooked and it really set the tone for a jaw dropping experience. Some of the plot felt a little far fetched but that’s fine - I wanted a good story and I got one.
Two Federal agents come to Myron Bolitar to ask questions about the Callister murders and demand to know where Greg Downing is. Greg was an old client of Bolitar’s, but how could he be involved in the murders when he has been dead for 3 years?
Now because I am late to the game I have no idea how Myron, owner of MB SportsRep, gets caught up in investigations but I am prepared to go back to book 1 so that I can find out, as well as how Win is involved. I have most definitely missed out on the development of these characters, and I want to know more!
The book was fast paced, I struggled to put it down and even up to the end, I had no idea who the murderer was. The book had some humour to break up the action - namely Myron’s parents and their antics on edibles (that gave me a good chuckle).
Thanks to Netgalley and Random House, Cornerstone for the opportunity to read this book!
Yet another absolutely phenomenal book by Harlan Coben!
Extremely gripping from the beginning & throughout!
Highly recommend
This was my first Harlan Coben book after watching a few of his book adaptations on Netflix and Amazon Prime and loving every one I decided to take the plunge and try this one.
I haven't read any of the others in this series, but I didn't feel like you had to. Yes you probably would have understood alot more about the main characters and their backstories but I felt like you knew enough to still enjoy it as a standalone
I liked the different perspectives in this book.
I found this book full of action and suspense from the very beginning. Well paced and a page turner.
I’ve been an occasional visitor to this series, featuring sports agent and qualified lawyer Myron Bolitar, and his devoted (and deadly violent) sidekick Win Lockwood. So, I’ve picked up the general thread of their passage to this latest episode, whilst missing out on quite a few of the key moments in their journey. Those I have read have been fun, in particular I’ve enjoyed the banter between the pair. For me, the books are a successfully mix of a decent plot, interesting characters, and a good dose of humour.
When I picked up this latest episode (due for release 23rd May 2024) two things immediately struck me:
1. Both Win and Myron have aged. It’s been 8 years since the previous episode was published. The most recent book I’d read in this series was written twenty five years ago. Coben has made the decision to age his characters as the series progresses (in the same way Michael Connelly and Ian Rankin have with their most successful series). I like this approach, even if it has the impact of making me feel the passage of the years a little more intensely!
2. I’ve missed out on some crucial moments in Myron’s life. This story can certainly be enjoyed as a stand alone tale, but I cant help feeling that it would have felt so much richer had I been more closely acquainted with Myron’s past.
In short, Myron is asked to look into a case involving a man accused of murder – the accused being an old foe of Myron’s, one who has been dead for several years! How could this be? How could the man’s DNA turn up at the scene of the crime? It’s a tangled web indeed, and I had great fun seeing how Myron and Win set about untangling it. Yes, it’s a tall story. But it’s one that kept me guessing and entertained throughout. I really must go back and read all those books I’ve missed out on.
I will start by saying I didn't realise this was part of a series but do not let that put you off. I read it as a stand alone and enjoyed it, plenty of back story.
Lots of twists and turns to keep you hooked.
It's been years since I read a Harlan Coben book and I had completely forgotten how much I enjoyed his conversational writing style! Think Twice is the 12th novel featuring Myron Bolitar, but could easily be read as a stand alone as plenty of back story is provided. This story had me absolutely hooked from the start, a gripping page turner with plenty of twists and genuinely shocking turns that had me completely on the edge of my seat - a very easy 5 stars. Enjoy!
Thank you to Netgalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone for the review copy.
This is an excellent book as you would expect from Harlan Coben. Written with humour it grips you from the start with unexpected turns and twists but also a good human plot line
Having read and enjoyed books by this author I thought I’d give it a go. Unfortunately after being accepted I realised it was book twelve in the Myron Bolitar series and I only had the first of the series on my tbr pile. Having think twice spurred me on so I immediately got on the case and read the previous eleven books so I could read this.
This book was all I expected from a Myron Bolitar book and more. Plenty of the usual Myron escapades along with lots of the unexpected, including a murder committed by a dead man. There were some great twists in there as always that I really didn’t expect. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this series of books and I’d love it if there were more.
He’s done it again. In typical Harlan Coben fashion he has given us a book that is not only full of characters that steel your heart but also. Dark thriller which keeps you on the edge of your seat and twists and turns so you never know what’s going on. This is a brilliant story about great friends, the family you choose not the one you are born into and a depraved killer who is cleverly setting up others for murder and no one has any clue who or why. Loved it!!!You don’t need to have read the other book around Myron to enjoy this but I hope there’s more to come in the future as I love him and WYN.
Think Twice by Harlan Coben - #ARC
Thank you @netgalley 🙏🏻 My 3rd novel by this author but 1st Myron Bolitar and now I want to read the backlist 🙊
I had a great time with this novel and stayed up until the early hours because I just couldn’t wait to finish it. There was lots happening but was easy to follow and such a clever plot. Where do these authors get these ideas 🤯
What a ride! Action packed, kept me gripped from beginning to end. Just when I thought I’d figured it out I was proved wrong. Cleverly written, thought provoking and fast paced.
Definitely recommend, available to pre order and out 23rd May.
I enjoyed this a lot. I’ve read a lot of Harlan Coben’s books over the years and it felt familiar, but updated. It was thrilling with lots of twists and turns. Myron and Win are strong characters and their relationship continues to be interesting.
It’s great to be back in the world of Myron Bolitar and his friend Win. Hard to believe this is the 12th book in the series. Coben is only too aware though, there’s plenty of reflection on change and aging in this thrilling book.
Win and Myron are surprised to get a visit from the FBI to tell them that Myron’s former client Greg Downing, is suspected of murder. Mostly because Greg is dead. There was a complex relationship between them, Greg stole Myron’s college sweetheart from him, and then after a night of passion with Myron before the wedding, the girlfriend had a baby who is Myron’s child but has been raised by Greg. So there’s a personal element to this back from the dead scenario.
From this point the plot does a very Coben-esque voyage of twists and turns, with a serial killer angle with a difference. It’s all very clever.
It does have a shocking end though, which for me, makes me wonder if this is the end of the road for this series. No spoilers but it’s left me rather sad.
Very enjoyable. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
When DNA evidence is found at a recent murder the evidence show that Greg Downing as the killer. The only problem Greg Downing died 3 years ago. Myron and his friends are tasked of finding out what’s going on.
I have read quite a few of Harlan Coban’s work and especially books in the Myron Bolitar series so I couldn’t wait to get stuck into the next book in the series.
I found the blurb and the premise of this story intriguing, but I just couldn’t connect to the story, for me I just found there to be too much going on and with so many characters to really relate to them. I didn’t really much care for the characters either. I was quite disappointed, 3 stars from me.
Harlan Coben doesn't miss. All of his books read like action moves and read like movies in my head. I haven't read the rest of the books in this series but honestly don't let that put you off, it was so fast paced and as always, a twist you will never see coming!
I enjoyed parts of this book, but at times I struggled to stick with it which surprised me. This is the first time I read a Harlan Coben book, and I heard great things up to now, I’ve also watched some of the TV adaptations of his books which I thoroughly enjoyed. Perhaps I would have enjoyed this more if I had read any of the other books in this series first, though my understanding is that they can all be read independently. The twist was good, but again it didn’t blow me away, I kind of expected it from early on.
A well thought out psychological thriller.
How does a dead man carry out a number of crimes?
If you want to know how, I recommend that you read the book.
Some of the wrinkles can be guessed, but as usual there are enough twists and turns to keep the reader rivetted.
My thanks to the author for the hours of enjoyment that the book has brought me, I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Who doesn't love the mind of Harlan Coben??
How can a man who's already dead, be wanted for murder? That's the main question, and with the twists and turns of this thriller, it keeps you guessing until the very end
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for this ARC.
Fantastic book and fantastic author. Another real page turner and one I found hard to put down, and I genuinely didn't figure out who the bad guy was. Harlan Coben never disappoints.
A well deserved five stars from me.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Hadn’t realised this was a series but easily read as a standalone. I am still amused by Man United.
