I’m wavering on this book. There are things to like, such as a decent level of humour, the characters are given good depth and you do end up rooting for Rory and Ellis. But, some of the story is a bit far fetched. Both Maya, who seems horrible and I’m not convinced anyone would feel sorry for her, and London, who is even worse and beyond selfish, just don’t seem worth bothering with. I couldn’t really see why Rory and Ellis would have been ‘friends/roommates/clients’ (confusing) with them in the first place. Plus London having such a large scar years later was a very clumsy plot device that I don’t think really worked.
I was expected a little more, but the books was cute. I was hoping more of Hollywood setting, more of the dark sides of the industry, but it’s not that type of story, which is okay. This is more a romcom. The characters are all well written, not only Ellis and Rory, but also London and Maya. The romance was cute. Not full of chemestry, if I have to be honest, and I didn’t root so much for them, but they are cute together.
It’s a good romcom story, but nothing else.
Thank you Netgalley and Bold Strokes Books for the arc!
I loved the writing style and I enjoy the story very much and thought it was cute.
Thank You NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this very enjoyable book
who knew this book would keep me up till 3am whilst i finished reading it... and it led me a merry dance throughout Los Angeles and the way of a film star, who gets what she wants when she wants regardless of any situation for her or anyone else
London Green is that very superstar and when she walks into a downtown bar and walks out with maya a bar tender on her arm....rory hatten knew things were going to get interesting...
when a very early phone call wakes rory up to go and pick maya up from londons place she knew it was going to be one of those days.... even more so when she told to move her car by an uptight biatch called Ellis but then again rory was glad she didnt have to sort out londons life like ellis did
but as london and maya stayed together it meant rory and ellis ended up seeing more of each other and they realised they would have to work together to keep the happy couple away from the lime light and that wasnt easy when london wanted to do things...
an enjoyable read that kept me really entertained... but i didnt get that from the cover
Rory and Ellis were both well developed complex characters. Rory was overly blunt and Ellis was a consummate people pleaser. They were able to balance each other’s tendencies a bit.
The plot was decent, with solid pacing. The overall vibe was very cozy and low stakes with positive messaging. I also appreciated the chronic illness rep.
Spice: 3/5
Triggers: sex tape (side character), cheating (not between or by MCs), emotional manipulation
I thought this book was just okay, not great but not terrible. The main relationship was cute but not one of my favorites. I didn't find myself really rooting for or against them. The Hollywood elements were entertaining at times. The roommate character was horrible - intentionally so but still frustrating to read about at times.
It was kind of a popcorn book for me. Light and easy to read but not particularly substantial. Pleasant enough if you're in the mood for something like that.
I read an ARC of this book from NetGalley. All comments are my own.
This was okay, a little wordy and over descriptive, which made it difficult to follow at times. Still, Rory was very easy going and loveable, and Ellis equally good and loyal if a little tightly strung.
Definately feels like a debut, not very well or fluidly written but I do like the characters and once I worked out what was going on liked the plot as well.
I didn’t love it and did find that it lost a lot of momentum quite quickly, there were a lot of Hallmark movie vibes and lots of Hollywood/high profile drama.
London and Maya were really difficult to keep reading about, the whole time they were annoying and that never really got resolved.
It was a little unsatisfying for me
I loved the fact that although the romance was all over the book there was another plot that was also consuming. A common enemy, or if not enemy, common challenge. This again felt fresh. The pacing was perfect, at no point did my attention wander. I was delighted for the mains when they got their ending and that there were no silly misunderstandings.
I have such a sweet spot for celebrity/normie romances. Catherine Lane's Lean in to Love definitely falls into that category and hits some highlights. It was wacky and toxic characters, but overall a good time read.
Thank you to Bold Strokes Books, Inc. and NetGalley for providing an eARC for a honest review.
This book was wonderful and i absolutely adored the characters. I definitely enjoyed the plot development. And I couldn’t put this book down! I definitely recommend it!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
I was really excited for this book after reading the synopsis but unfortunately my expectations were not quite met. I didn't feel like I connected with the characters properly and London and Maya were really unlikable characters. Rory and Ellis' story was the main thing that interested me in this book and I felt like London and Maya's relationship pulled the focus out of them. I also felt like sometimes things moved way too quickly for my liking. However, when things started developing between Rory and Ellis, they were cute together and their relationship was described in a lovely way. I also liked Ellis' character development towards the end of the book.
Being a nanny for a Hollywood superstar? Hell, no!
But unlike me, this is exactly what Ellis and Rory unofficially get to do, when London the superstar Ellis manages becomes infatuated on a bar night with Rory's roommate Maya; which leads to the two of them having to share more moments and some sharp situations that lead to them getting intimately close.
I found this lesbian romance entertaining, there are a lot of circumstances that kept me guessing, it takes on a Rom-Com feel, although I did feel very frustrated with Maya and London, and I would have liked the ending to be a little different.
I recommend it if you want to have a good time with a read that you can drink in a day.
Thank you Netgalley for this advance copy.

Rory’s roomie has a chance encounter with a superstar and ends up dating her, dragging Rory deeper into the superficial world of Hollywood. Ellis Turner is the agent of the superstar. This is marked as enemy to lovers but, I didn’t get that at all. Rory just seemed too authentic to be bothered with the fakeness of Hollywood. In my opinion, there also is no ice queen….Ellis throughout the story was just used so much, I couldn’t picture an ice queen behaving in such manner. There is enough drama to make this a quick read.
i LOVED this. the characters are so well-written, and rory and ellis getting their happy ending made me so happy. the writing was really good and easy to read, and i love the inclusivity of different pronouns 🫶🏼 this book greatly represents the LGBTQIA+ community and the love we have to offer. one thing i noted was how weird the pacing was at times; sometimes things moved along slowly and then other times we jumped ahead a little. it wasnt an issue, just something i noticed.
I enjoyed this book and thought it was a cute concept, but I don't see myself reaching for this book again in the future. I really enjoyed Catherine's writing style, but the story ended up falling a little flat to me.
This book was a cute and quick read. I liked the dynamic between Rory and Ellis, but I personally don't think their relationship warranted an enemies-to-lovers title. I liked reading about their little moments together, but honestly, I wish we had more. I felt like this story was way too heavy on Maya and London. Their relationship overpowered the main couple's.
Thank you NetGalley and and Bold Strokes for providing me an arc copy of the book in return for my honest review.
I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and this is a voluntary review.
The premise of this book really interested me as it was set in the Hollywood hills and included two lesbian couples - what’s not to like?
I think it’s clear to see how much research the author put into fleshing out her characters and giving realistic detail to their jobs and hobbies like working on a TV set, pottery and being a pastry chef. Although the relationship between the two main characters was touted as enemies-to-lovers, I don’t think there was enough ‘enemies’ in there to really fit this trope. Despite this, I found their relationship quite sweet, once they both got out of their own way and ‘Leaned In To Love’.
I do feel like the other relationship, between bartender/ aspiring actress Maya and megastar London did pull focus from the main romance quite a lot. I found both of these women to be unlikeable, and their motives were confusing. Even after finishing the book, I’m still not totally sure what Maya’s intentions were for that relationship and if she ever had feelings for London. I also thought that their timeline was on hyperspeed. Obviously, we’ve all heard of U-Haul lesbians but this really took it to another level.
Overall, it wasn’t exactly my cup of tea and I think it could benefit from some streamlining of the plot, but it was fun, fluffy and easy to read. 2.75 stars.
Rory's shallow roommate Maya has hooked up with popular actress London. Along with her is her ice queen agent, Ellis, whom discovers Rory is JUST her type.
As it quickly becomes clear Maya is up to something, Rory and Ellis have to work together to keep her from damaging London's career.
Ellis and Rory have a cute romance, and the other characters are entertaining too. Jolie, Ellis assistant, is especially sweet.
The Hollywood lifestyle is really interesting, with a subplot on Rory trying to become a semi-celeb chef and Ellis being somewhat overwhelmed as a agent.
3.5 🌟 A fluffy sapphic adult romcom!
After an insta-love romance bloomed between celebrity London Green and bartender Maya, Ellis (London’s agent) and Rory (Maya’s roommate) find themselves working together to manage the whirlwind celebrity relationship. Lots of hijinks and shenanigans ensue—a wardrobe malfunction, an engagement party, and a deepfake sex tape.
I didn’t think much of the technicalities other than my own enjoyment because I genuinely enjoyed this. I know the romance was between Rory and Ellis, but I wish we knew what happened with Maya and London next. The two were toxic and self-centered that they might have worked out as the hot toxic couple, but ultimately, they were just horrible people. I just would have liked to know the repercussions of their own actions. Otherwise, a cute read, perfect for a palate cleanser of sorts.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bold Strokes Books for the ARC! :>
thank you to bold strokes books and netgalley for this earc in exchange for an honest review.
wow wow wow, where do i begin? this was labeled as enemies to lovers, which was a bit of a stretch, i think. rivals maybe? and even then, it wasn’t for long.
london i think is actually the worse character i’ve ever read. she’s just horrible and if i didn’t have to finish this i would’ve marked it as a dnf. i unfortunately had the pleasure of reading the whole way through.
every word that came out of her mouth just made it so hard to care about anyone in the story.
rory was just somewhat bearable - just tolerable and just kinda there. her and ellis’s relationship wasn’t memorable and felt like the background torture relationship between london and awful maya.
and on top of that -spoiler-
maya created a partial deepfake sex tape to blackmailed her fiancé, in order, to get her to back out of an acting role so, maya didn’t have to leave the country with london.
instead of idk communicating with your FIANCÉ? call me crazy idk.
yet somehow, ellis still felt bad for maya when she heard of maya’s motives and tries to check in on her ???
disgusting.

Rory and Maya are roommates when superstar London stop by the bar where they are at sparks fly between Maya and London. Rory is rope into Maya and London love affair and meets Ellis London agent who isn’t please with London new romance especially when she land a great role and it’s seems Maya is trying undermine Ellis. Ellis and Rory sort got on the wrong foot and when they start to spend time together they realize they were wrong about each other. As Ellis tries to keep London from doing anything to jeopardize her career Rory tries to get ahead as chef as she help her sister Meadow and their mother Joy. I like that Rory is close with her family that she was honest didn’t keep things to herself Ellis seems cold but she just wanted London and herself to succeed but didn’t really care for London or Maya
