Thank you to NetGalley, Quarto Publishing Group – Wide Eyed Editions and the author for an ARC of this book.
Another beautifully illustrated and fact packed book from Wide Eyed Edition books. This is a fun one for anyone interesting in what our states have to offer. It would also be a fabulous road trip companion, with many interesting facts about different landmarks, cities and excursion ideas. Plus I can never get enough of these illustrations. They're beautiful and super fun. Again, like with the other Wide Eye books, I would buy this book for myself as a coffee table book.
I thought this was such a great teaching tool/book! I loved how much information it gave you - some easy and some obscure! I think the artwork was nice as well. Like I said this was a great book to use within the classroom or even outside of the classroom. Only reason I gave it 3 stars is I wanted some more obscure things to help me learn more.
Fun illustrated guide to all 50 states.
Cute drawings with lots of facts and features for each state. Plants, animals and famous locations are mixed with sports facts and pop culture and political icons. Busy but readable pages and would be great for an elementary schooler who is interested in learning about all the states. Includes lots of museums, locations and elements slightly less famous in the state, so even your home state you are bound to discover something new. Starting with a map, it goes alphabetically but everything can be read standalone so you can skip around. I could see this being a fun book for a child wanting to "research" and "help plan" a vacation to learn more about states both familiar and far away.
This book gives detail for each of the 50 states. The states are in alphabetical order which makes it easy to find the particular one you are interested in learning about that moment. It's vibrant and colorful with varying fonts. Some included details are: the state capitals, bird, and flower, and lesser known or "quirky" facts that aren't typically included in other state infographics, as well as prominent historical figures. My 7 year old really enjoys it.
This was an absolutely fascinating book! I know so little about the different States of America, instead assuming they are all just one country but this book highlighted to me just how different they all are. Each page was a fascinating map with lovely images and interesting facts - I learnt so much from every page and found something new each time I looked at the page. A really interesting book and one to learn a lot from; a valuable addition to any library.
This is one of our favourite types of books to share as a family - maps, infographics, beautiful illustrations and facts. The zoom-in/magnet circles were a nice addition. Looking forward to reading/engaging with the other books in the series, and wishing for books about the other locations across the world. The format is fantastic.
Everything you want to know about the 50 U.S. states, with stunning art and 2,000 intriguing facts. Should be available in every home and school library!
I was very impressed with the amount of information the author was able to provide on each state. Filled with fun facts on each state individually and in relation to states they border. I see this as a great book for younger readers.

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5 stars.
Received for review: I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: I loved books about states and countries as a kid, so I have read quite a few books like this one. This book is jam-packed with information almost to the point of being chaotically full of information, and yet it manages to stay well organized. I thought the author included fun tidbits for each state and did a great job highlighting people, places, and things that make each state memorable. I am sure some of us will say she could have represented our state better or included different facts. That's always the criticism of books like this.
However, I thought this book was well done and a good addition for kids wanting to know more about the 50 states.
Love,

I read this book with my 8 year old son and he loved it. He is very interested in learning about geography and the different places in the world. This was a good first step since it’s just the United States but it’s packed with facts about each state. I loved how detailed each state was and I even learned quite a bit. The illustrations were amazing and I will definitely be purchasing a physical copy when this book comes out.
This was a nice book about the 50 states, with some history point, some famous people and some fun tidbits. It was a nice read, I just feel like the pages were too crowded with information and illustrations and that does not make the information easier to ingest. But it's a nice book.
The book is bright, and engaging. The facts interesting and fun, the layout easy to navigate. This is a lovely book to introduce children to the 50 states of the US, including some of the State's history, and interesting places to visit or see and why. The addition of famous people from the states was a lovely addition touch.
An ideal book for all school libraries – not just those in the titular 50 States. This gives us a double-page spread for all fifty, with a rough guide to where a select few things are; peppering the maps are tiny box-outs for six famous people per state, and more or less as much trivia as can be fit in, while beyond that we get proper text boxes for a timeline, a discussion of the state, and a databank of major cities, year of inclusion in the list of 50, name meaning, time zone, etc etc.
Some of this is certainly on the trivial-seeming side, but if people felt the need to declare a state neckwear for Arizona then clearly it wasn't exactly trivial to them. And this is certainly not the only gazetteer to focus on the bonkers superlative, such as Idaho having the world's biggest potato chip. But as I say, beyond the rest of the world needing to know this information about all these states, when we see the world's first parking meter, or typewriter, we know we have something of international interest, and that this isn't as jingoistic and inward-looking as you might think. Heck, it's already told you a few things you shouldn't smuggle from New York State to Canada.
I might query the need for this to be in paperback, but it has had a slight update and rejig for that format, apparently, and the 2015 original printing was definitely getting on a bit. That figure is, ultimately, a pretty damn decent review in its own right, mind – the fact this is still in print (and the daddy-o of several similar books) is proof of its many merits. I don't think it would inspire a road trip, or a visit to the great outdoors, as it says it intends, however – it would keep a young me rapt and firmly indoors for all its detail. Four and a half stars.
Jam packed with facts and colourful illustrations this is a great book for children to learn about each of the 50 states. Each states is listed in alphabetical order with its own page filled with famous people, key facts, state icons, places of interest and more.
This is a book to come back to again and again.
Beautiful, colorful illustrations and lots of information for little readers. We will add this to our library in May
This book has a double spread lay out for each state with the main cities identified on the map. There is key information, famous people, and moments to remember highlighted for each state. There is a lot of information on each spread, but it is very engaging and organized rather than being overwhelming.
This book was a super cute read with all kinds of information for each of the states. From interesting locations to notable people, this book packs a lot of information into beautiful artwork that will keep your kids engaged. I could see this being a wonderful resource for classrooms or school libraries for younger elementary students and teachers to use when learning about different places around the US. I would love to have a physical copy to use with my own kids when we are traveling. Each state page also includes key facts like the state tree and state capitol location, along with a timeline to trace the history of the state with significant events.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me a digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
The 50 States is packed with information on US states, arranged in alphabetical order. I love how it included important dates, wildlife, monuments, and extraordinary people who have called these states home. The book doesn't shy away from the tumultuous history of the USA, like the civil rights movement, but glosses over slavery, queer history, the occupation of Hawaii, and the genocide of the indigenous peoples. Even though this is a children's book, not all children reading it will have the luxury of now knowing about this history and there is a way to acknowledge these topics in an age-appropriate way.
I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are my own
I enjoy educational books like The 5o States. The mix of fun trivia and important facts make reading fun. The pages are bright, and the illustrations really help one take in the information given on each page.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for letting med review this book. This was a fun read about the various states and fun facts. I like that there were several kids’ book recommendations as well.
