Starting with a general overview and history of the how the national park program began, the book is divided into seven sections representing different regions of the United States. Beginning in the eastern United States and working westward, each section provides a general description of the landscape, climate and wildlife found in that part of the country. A short but informative paragraph introduces each park and paints a picture of the landscape as well as the flora, fauna and wildlife which inhabit the park. Also included is a separate page offering renderings and more specific information of the plants and animals of the park.
The informative narrative is offset by simple but eye catching art work encompassing the landscape and wildlife and offering illustrations of families enjoying the activities each park has to offer. Done in muted tones of greens and blues, browns, reds and yellows, the colors reflect the tones and shades of the park's landscape
This book is a great introduction to all the national parks have to offer.,
Absolutely loved the illustrations! One of the most beautiful atlases I have ever seen, with great descriptions and an index at the end.
Great Book! Well written, easy to read and cool Americana drawings.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC
This beautiful book has a little something for all readers. The creative graphics are all throughout making it easy to read and learn more about the individual parks (even some that are not as common), the regions of the US they're in, as well as the wildlife within each. I've visited several parks myself but since our family has several more on our list, we're always looking for more information. This would be a great companion to an educational unit, or also a way to prepare for travel to the parks soon or in the future. I'll be recommending this to other national park lovers...or those who should be!
I love the art in this book! It's so fun to look at all the pictures in this style of art. Each featured park has a page with an overview and a second scrapbook-type page with info about different flora, fauna and man-made structures in the park. It's a pretty neat way to read about some of the most popular parks.
I was a little disappointed that it didn't include all the parks, instead just focusing on the major ones. Hopefully that would get kids interested enough to learn more about the ones that aren't featured though.
This would be perfect in a 4th grade classroom when we learn about National Parks.
Really enjoyed this book. Definitely buying to put in my classroom library. My students love national parks.
Thank you to Net Galley for this e-copy of National Parks of the USA by Kate Siber in exchange for a honest review. This is such a well written and detailed book about the National Parks in the US and it’s’ territories. Each National Park entry includes the many animals and plants that live there and includes historical tidbits about each property which is perfect for quick reading. This book is perfect for adults, children and especially travelers who are looking to explore more of our beautiful country.Beautiful illustrations!.
I received a free copy of, National Parks of the USA, by Katie Siber, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is a great book on the national parks, I have only been to a couple of them sadly. This has great information about the national parks.
This is an excellent book that gives fun facts, history, and information about the National Park system. It doesn’t highlight all the parks but it does feature some of the major parks in each region of the country. I love that it includes information about the flora and fauna found in the parks. There’s also a fun alphabet at the end of the book that’s great for the littlest reader. The illustrations are beautiful.
I can’t wait to share this book with my kids as we plan our national park road trip this summer!
I have recently been visiting national parks and collecting the passport stamps and regional stamps for each of the parks, so when I saw this book, I knew I needed to check it out! This only covers the "parks," so none of the national rivers, recreation areas, landmarks, military parks, etc. I am always saddened when books about national parks leave out some of my favorite locations because of their classification within the park system. This book is absolutely beautiful though. The artwork evokes a lot of the natural beauty found at each of the parks. I loved the inclusion of animals or plants you may encounter at each of the parks. I wish this were more like a checklist or that it had a spot for passport stamps and notes. Otherwise, I think this is a fantastic book for anyone interested in the national parks and learning about the various landscapes across the country.
It has nice illustrations. A paragraph about each national park. It’s great for geography students in elementary and middle school.
This is a beautiful and informative book about the national parks of the USA! I loved that each page is packed full of so much to look at and read. The illustrations are gorgeous. I especially loved the muted colors and whimsical style. I am looking forward to taking my young son to see many parks in the future. So this is a great introduction for him. Highly recommend!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of "National Parks of the USA" by Kate Siber. All opinion are my own.
This is a lovely book that shows the beautiful national parks of the country. This would make a great gift for children to teach them more about it.
I have never been to a National Park in the USA so this was very informative for me and will help me to plan future trips to the US.
I loved that the contents page was shown on the map rather than just listed, I thought that was very unique and a cute way to break it up. I loved the art style for the illustrations and the layout of the book but the cursive font was definitely not one I would have picked, especially for a book aimed at children. Overall it was really cute and I think it would be a good introduction to the National Parks for kids. It was hard to read as an e-book so I would purchase a paper copy if possible.
I love visiting National Parks and have been a proud pass holder for many years. This book is nice but didn’t hit it out of the ball park for me. I like the art style of the illustrations but was disappointed the book wasn’t more comprehensive. My home state of Utah has five National Parks, (one of the reasons I get yearly passes), and yet only one was featured in the book. The book does give the state, year founded and size of parks covered. But the focus is more on flora and fauna that may be seen in the parks. And this is a mini concern but a plain cursive font is used for an introductory paragraph for each National Park. Cursive is no longer taught in my school district. So this just makes it harder for newer and younger readers to read the book. I was hoping to learn more specific facts about individual parks. I still think kids will happily thumb through the pages but it wasn’t as informative as I expected.
I don't really know what I expected, but this book left me feeling slightly disappointed and underwhelmed. I homeschool my son so I was excited to read these before purchasing hard copies. Unfortunately, they were visually overwhelming and difficult to read... and the overload of information really wasn't all that informative. The books were pretty but not right for what I was looking for.
3.5 STARS
A cute little handbook to the National Parks of the US packaged in an adorable art style. This is aimed at a younger audience, but I found it easy enough to read through.
The book is divided into geographical sections with a map showing the locations of the park. Each section contains a slightly more in-depth look at some of the parks listed.
It isn't meant to be a comprehensive and detailed work of educational material, but I do wish it was a little more detailed for some sections. The chapter on the West Coast for instance mentions black bears and the dangers of leaving out food around them multiple times but doesn't really do so for the East Coast. And, you know, as someone from there, I can promise you we have plenty of black bears. So, in some regards, there is some inconsistency at play.
The font choice is also a little strange. It was hard to read on my computer screen, but I could read it on my phone. It looks nice with the art, but it's sort of an odd choice for a book aimed at a younger audience.
The true delight of this book is the lovely art style covering every page. This is the sort of book you leave sitting out just to flip through to a random page now and then, just to look at the art.
This book is perfect for our homeschooling. I love how it's broken down into zones, it makes it super easy to do mini units for our Social Studies. It also gives some science and history facts that the kids love hearing and seeing the pictures. We like picking different National Parks to plan future trips too
Thank you to the author and NetGalley for this ARC
As someone who loves the outdoors, seeing new parks and learning more about them, this book is absolutely fantastic! With so many detailed photos and fun information, I think this is the perfect way for kids to learn more about our National Parks! This is definitely a book I'll be buying for all the kids in my life to share the love of the parks with them!
