I'm interested in this book because I saw a children with hearing technology / cochlear implant in the cover. I am a teacher with hearing loss/ deaf children. This book will be a big help for them to understand more about themself. I will recommend them to the parent for sure, so they can read aloud at home.

An excellent introduction to taking care of yourself for young kids. The pictures are vibrant and diverse and the explanations are simple. This would be a great tool for preschool aged children.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC. In exchange I will give my honest opinion.

This book is great for children, but I think some older kids can also enjoy this one. Everything is very clearly written with good use of pictures/drawings. The font was a bit small, so it would be better to read alongside your kid I think.

As a veteran special educator and a parent of children with many needs and differences, I absolutely love this book. I love the way it portrays the many differences we have and the beauty in us all.

This is a fantastic primer for young children, and a great resource for parents. The examples are age appropriate, illustrations are diverse and the content is both broad and comprehensiv. A great life skills book for little ones!

An early personal development book, and not the self-aggrandising positivity I expected from the title. This tells us the various ways we can learn to learn from ourselves, and how we get to live better lives, from looking after ourselves with a decent breakfast to knowing our emotions, from respecting everyone's boundaries and opinions to being helpful, and from keeping fit to acknowledging the benefit in alone time. Yes, this felt very higgledy-piggledy to me, too, with quite the random spread of subjects and no over-arching lesson. I'm sure it would have been more benefit had it been more coherent and better-structured. It's not too bad – the cast are of course as diverse as you can get, and it asks us a decent amount of deep questions about ourselves, so we can engage with how our body is registering our hunger, mood or doubt at something feeling wrong. But the three and a half stars I'm giving it should suggest that I expect better versions of this book are to be had.

I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are my own opinions.

How lucky is this generation to have wonderful books such as Wonderful Me? There was so much I loved about this book and nothing I didn't. The inclusivity in both the wording and illustrations is greatly appreciated.

I loved this book so much for all of my kids. I was so happy to see all the diverse and inclusive illustrations. The best part is all the thoughtful questions within the book for kids to ask themselves in the future when they think and reflect on why they do the things they do each day. I felt like this book gave my kids the language to better understand their emotions and be more mindful as well. Thank you so much NetGalley for this ARC! I can’t wait to get a copy for my kids to have in our nightly reading rotation.

Excellent positive reinforcement for elementary grades and for reading WITH younger children and others. There's a lot packed into this marvelous book which will help so many.
The illustrations by Vania Sacramento are clear, imaginative, and colorful.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to everyone, but especially to a school or your local public library.

Wonderful Me is a great book which teaches children the importance of taking care of their bodies and minds. The words and illustrations create a very child-friendly way for children to learn about their bodies and is full of essential material. Thank you to Nancy Shapiro, Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children’s Books and NetGalley for allowing me to read this book prior to publishing.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley for an honest review.

I'll be honest, this is full of good information, but I, an adult, was like OKAY, wrap it up. This felt like a lot of information and very valuable information, but my attention waned. I can only imagine the attention of a child, especially when trying to introduce these big ideas like "boundaries."

Maybe having it cut into sections so if the child's attention starts to drift, you can come back and tackle the next section the next day.

There's a lot in this book that is great - we go to the doctor when we're sick, we talk to a therapist when we have feelings we have to talk about. Boundaries are like a fence and we should all have them. You are allowed to feel however you feel. We have internal fire alarms and if something makes our alarm go off, we should tell someone.

If I had any notes it would be - the book tells us we should wear sunscreen to prevent sunburns, but we should just straight up wear sunscreen. It helps prevent skin damage and cancer. Not just sunburns. They also use a "fence" around a park as an example of boundaries, but when I think of parks, most of them are open in a field. Maybe a fence around your HOME would be more applicable. These are very nitpicky things.

My only REAL note would be when going through some of these topics the text offers up how the child might feel. I think this can cause the child to simply agree that YES they feel like that, or they think that! Instead of encouraging independent thinking. Rather than "maybe you feel like you don't want to wear your coat because you are afraid you'll get hot," it could be phrased as a more yes/no question. Is your coat uncomfortable? Do you get hot wearing your coat? Maybe break it down into more of WHY does the kid feel this way, rather than offering up an excuse for them when they fight to put on their coat.

All in all, this is cute and really detailed about a variety of super important topics for kids.

4.5/5 Stars! Thank you, Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books for this eARC of Wonderful Me by Nancy Shapiro.

This is a beautiful book that talks about taking care of your mind, body, and soul! This was too young for my 2 year-old but I did like reading this to my older son (6) and introducing him to self-care. My favorite part of the book is the inclusivity and diversity of this book! (Especially for my oldest who is a special needs kiddo.)

I love the friendship and relationship parts of the book because it also talks abound boundaries and being alone. This was a refresher for myself even!

Beautiful book! I would def recommend this to parents, children, and caregivers!

The author of this cheerfully illustrated book speaks directly to her young readers. She engages them with information, questions and things to think about. Wonderful Me is a positive and affirming look at the ways in which kids can/can learn to take good care of themselves. The topics covered include everything from sleep to friendships and much, much more.

This book provides an excellent resource for its intended audience. It deserves a spot in home and school libraries.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for this title. All opinions are my own.

Teaching children self care is an integral part of them developing their independence and it also creates great habits for them as they get older. The subject matter in this book is crucial for children. It’s like a creative manual on self care and growing up.

The diversity within the illustrations was refreshing and a great sight to see. In order to encourage children they need to be able to visualise themselves and seeing individuals like them will help this.

There are also fantastic questions in each section promoting self reflection. Would highly recommend this book.

A first self-care guide we all could have used as kids. I love the representation of different children and abilities. I appreciate the open ended questions which engage kids to think about their day to day routines and how they interact with the world around them. Self-care, boundaries, and social-emotional health can be difficult to talk about with young children, but this book does a great job of encouraging discussion that is appropriate for young children.

I think this would be such a wonderful resource for children who are trying to gain independence, especially when it comes to self-care. Learning and understanding why self-care is important is something we should learn from a young age. This lets that become a more natural thing and hopefully helps children keep that routine when they become adults. This book also explains that self-care is more than just pampering yourself occasionally. Self-care is everything we do on a daily basis to keep us healthy and safe, both physically and mentally.

This book not only talks about the different areas of self-care but also gives ideas and asks questions to help children think and create their own ideas for self-care. This may also be beneficial to some adults.

I love the inclusivity and diversity of this book. When talking about the senses, the author makes sure to add in that not everyone has all their senses. Not everyone can see or hear, and some may need aid to help them. The illustrations also show great diversity.

One of my favourite areas of the book is when it talks about friendships and relationships, boundaries, being around others', and being alone. These are such important parts of life for both children and adults.

This is a great resource for children, parents, caregivers, and teachers.

This book is honestly life changing. I wish if was around when I was little. From giving simple pointers to children, to helping youngsters understand some of the more confusing aspects to life to being the safety buffer of teaching kids boundaries and self care - this book truly has it all!

A great book for celebrating diversity. In my experience, children are always very good at accepting differences but it's great to be able to find more books that will enable everyone to see themselves represented. Thanks to Netgalley.
