Thank you NetGalley for allowing me tor eceive this book for an hones review.
I am sorry but this book was disturbing for me. I am not a prude but there has to be a limit with all the sexual preferences.
I could not get through this book.
I would imagine that the conversational nature of the way this book is written in would lend itself much better to an audiobook, so I'm looking forward to that release. The narrative swaps between Herman and Teddie Korn, often written as if they are speaking aloud and having a conversation. When the narrative is written as if it is being spoken, I pay much more attention to what is said and if it feels natural for someone to say it. A lot of the exposition felt told rather than shown, while the I couldn't shake the feeling that telling a story in so many details wouldn't be the way a person naturally talks. Additionally, the author doesn't indicate often who is speaking in dialogue, which can make following a longer conversation a bit more difficult to follow. While the writing was a little clunky, but I think the voice was very charming. I think an audiobook will make the story stand out.
Not for me. Thanks to NetGalley for the chance to read this book, but boy, this was not for me.
The synopsis was interesting, but the execution was, at best, mediocre. And is this supposed to be a mystery/historical novel or smut???
Yikes, the writing was off-putting. Kind of raunchy, hard to like characters and weird cadence to the writing. Could not finish.
A couple in their 60s discover the body of their landlord from the window of their apartment. Certain circumstances put them in the suspect pool, so they seek to discover the identity of the murderer to clear their names.
This book was engaging enough that I wanted to know what happened in the end, but not engaging enough that I wanted to read the middle third of the book. I went back and reread the description of the book to be sure that I didn't miss something, but there is no mention of the fact that the main couple in the story are involved in a long-term adulterous relationship. Because I personally find adultery to be abhorrent, this colored my view of the novel. No matter how likeable the characters are, they are trying to uncover deceit while being thoroughly deceitful with their spouses, and I couldn't enjoy the book on that basis.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
