Really enjoyed this bookwill be nice to see were the 3 girls end up after the war so hopefully theres a follow on book definately 5 stars x
Great start to a fantastic trilogy with strong women's characters and a interesting storyline.
Jack's Toffee factory sells the best selling toffee in the country, with England going to war women are being employed to cover the jobs that men previously held.
Ann Wright is Mr Jack's secretary with a huge secret that must not come out.
Elsie Cooper is fiesty, flirty character who works in the wrapping room, and Hetty Lawson also works in the wrapping room, who has to pay the bills and debts to cover her family.
The story includes strong bonds formed in life's adversities with a great setting for the future stories.

Fantastic first book in the factory girls trilogy.
This book centres around a toffee factory in the First World War. Anne, Hettie and Elsie. This follows their ups and downs and the difficulties coping with the war. Hettie is trying to manage on her wage to do it all as her mum can’t work and her younger brother just wants to be involved with the local thieves and gangsters. Elsie has a difficult home life but thinks she’s struck gold when she finds a nice young man or is he? Ann has secrets of their own and then Mr Jack starts to confide in her and she carry’s his secrets as well..
Very well written and looking forward to the next book.
What an opener for a new series!
Three young women get more out of their work at “Jacks” Toffee Factory, they get strong friendships.
There is strong, dependable Ann Wright who works as secretary for owner mr Jack, Elsie Cooper who can wrap toffees faster than most and Hetty Lawson who is shy but not timid.
I thought Mrs Fortune and Hilda Lawson were so well described, you could just picture them both. I liked the gardening references.
Elisabethville sounded like an interesting place. I did wonder which toffee factory was referred to in Scotland?
I look forward to the next one.
