This intense, fast-paced thriller had me on the edge of my seat and gritting my teeth the entire time! Not at all good for my TMJ but that angry tension I'm still trying to massage out of my face and neck was so worth it. The story follows a familiar trope with Callie who escapes from her abusive fiancé and goes into hiding, but, in my opinion, it was unique in its unfolding and cannot be compared to any other books with similar plots. If you are sensitive to abuse, this book may not be for you. There were scenes that were extremely hard to read and made me very sick to my stomach. Duncan is definitely the devil! I don't think I've ever felt such intense hatred for a character. I feel wrong saying how much I loved this book at the expense of the horrors that Callie faced, but I'm a thriller junkie and this is my jam. I LOVED IT!!
I've read a few of Beevis' books and they just keep getting better and better. This is by far my favorite of hers. I highly recommend that you read this one as soon as possible!
Thank you to the author, Boldwood Books, and NetGalley for granting me digital access in exchange for my honest review!
I have enjoyed all the other books I have read by Keri Beevis and this one was no different as it had a brilliant build up of pace, suspense and tension.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this in exchange for my honest review. A domestic thriller is my favorite type of thriller and this didn’t disappoint. I was on the edge of my seat, right from the beginning.
Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read this book in return for an honest review. I have read and loved all of Keri Beevis’s books and this new one was no exception. A brilliant, edge of your seat domestic thriller that I devoured in one sitting. The story has a lot of abuse in it, both physical and emotional, making it a difficult read at times. The author has done an incredible job of showing how gaslighting is used in a relationship and how deeply it can affect a person. A really well written suspenseful thriller that I highly recommend. An easy 5 stars from me.
Whoa. This book made me fume all over my room! OMG!
Duncan Stone is a movie star, a philantropist and the most eligible bachelor in town, so when he showed interest in Callie, she couldn't believe her luck. After only dating for a few months, she already moved in with him. But, is there really a perfect guy? Or just a perfect lie?
Please let me have a go at this awful awful human being! Omg. A guy like that should never ever exist. I feel so sorry for the main character. I could really feel her pain and reluctance to trust again. Hiding and constantly looking over your shoulder is probably one of the worst things that could happen to a person. Especially, a woman.
Well, having said that, I can't say that I enjoyed this book. It wasn't really original, I've seen this plot a million times and it didn't really offer anything new. Still, a decent domestic thriller, I'm just not the right audience.
Ladies, be careful out there. Evil has a face and a name. And sometimes, they often tell you they love you.
Thanks Netgalley & Boldwood Books for the ARC!
Nowhere to Hide follows the story of Callie Parker, an average girl who finds herself caught up in a whirlwind romance with Duncan Stone, a high profile celebrity. It doesn't take her long to realise that not all is as it seems and Duncan is a cruel and evil partner, trapping Callie with no means of escape.
She is given a lifeline and takes her chance to flee, disappearing to rural Norfolk with the help of an old friend. Callie can't relax though; has danger followed her or is there something else she should be afraid of?
As a Norfolk girl, who has only recently discovered the wonderful Keri Beevis, I was thrilled to be approved for this book. Her previous books have had me gripped straightaway and this one was no different.
Nowhere to Hide grabs you straight from the first chapter and never lets up; it is fast paced and full of action. I've not read another book where I've felt so on edge throughout, not being able to fully relax until I'd finished it.
I loved the character detail, genuinely feeling as though I cared for Callie and wanting the best for her. The story was well written and was full of twists and turns, none of which I had guessed.
A book that makes you feel ALL of the emotions and is utterly unputdownable, this is easily my favourite book of the year so far!
My thanks to NetGalley and the Publishers for sending me this ARC in return for an honest review.
Callie Parker has the perfect life to the public, dating movie star Duncan Stone. On the outside it look like the perfect romance, behind closed doors it's a different story. Duncan shows his true colours to Callie, soon she is afraid of her life and is making plans to escape. Will she manage to escape his evil clutches? A brilliant fast paced read that will keep you hooked from the very first page.
Not the most original plot but it’s sinister and unsettling in parts and how easily domestic abuse can escalate. It is my first time reading anything by this author and if her other books are anything like this one, then I wouldn’t hesitate in reading more by her.
If you are triggered by domestic abuse this is not a story for you. It definitely had some hard parts to get thru knowing that there are a lot of ppl out there who deal with this on an ongoing basis. But Kerri does a great job writing. you stand behind Callie hoping that she will finally be able to find a safe haven. A story of how growing up can affect the way you life your life. You either choose to be compassionate and empathetic or violent and seeing only how you want others to think of you by what you allow everyone to see. A high 4stars
Thank you NetGalley
When I saw that Keri Beevis had a new ARC available on NetGalley, I was so excited and hit that request button in record time. She has become one of my favorite authors, her books always keeping me up way past my bedtime! And after reading NOWHERE TO HIDE, I was reminded yet again of how much I love Keri Beevis with her riveting stories, her complex characters— and especially her forever faithful fur babies!! Dog lovers will fall in love with Golden Retriever, Chester, in this new book for his unyielding loyalty and unconditional love!!
Character development in this new novel was exceptional as I’ve come to expect from Keri Beevis. We are introduced to Callie, our protagonist whose beautiful and effervescent personality is crushed by fiancé and former celebrity, Duncan. As a reader, you feel Callie’s pain, humiliation, and suffering at a visceral level, her abuse at the hands of this sociopath. We soon meet Nico, the brother of one of Callie’s oldest friends, Laurel. Nico is everything Duncan is not, offering Callie, as well as sweet Chester, a safe place away from the storm. And I really loved Laurel, a devoted friend whom everyone should have and not many would deserve.
Once I started this book, I had such trouble putting it down. I was carrying my Kindle everywhere, stealing a few minutes when I could until I finished it. The story was compelling and intense, with me on the edge of my seat so many times! The “before” and “now” time jumps in the book were handled perfectly and seamlessly. And as Keri does so well, there are twists thrown in you won’t see coming! Admittedly, the abuse Callie suffers at the hands of despicably disgusting and vile Duncan is not easy to read, especially knowing such abuse is suffered by real women in the real world every day. Duncan’s outward demeanor belies an evil that Callie could have never anticipated. Keri Beevis fans will want to read this new novel as soon as they can! Brilliant!
I want to thank NetGalley, Keri Beevis, and Boldwood Books for gifting me the ARC of NOWHERE TO HIDE! It was such a privilege to read this before publication in April. And I appreciate you trusting me with an honest review!
In Keri Beevis's gripping book, "Nowhere to Hide," we are thrust into a chilling tale of abuse, fear, and resilience as Callie Parker, a high-status actor's girlfriend, flees from her abuser, Duncan Stone, and seeks refuge in a secluded cottage in the countryside in Norfolk with the help of an old friend.
From the outset, Keri Beevis paints a vivid picture of Callie's desperation and terror. She is trapped in a relationship with a man who wields power and control over her, both physically and emotionally. Callie's escape is a brave act of self-preservation, but it is only the beginning of her ordeal.
As Callie hides in the cottage, she is constantly haunted by the feeling that she is being watched. She hears strange noises outside, footsteps in the night. The sense of paranoia and vulnerability is palpable, and Beevis skillfully weaves an atmosphere of suspense that keeps the reader on edge throughout the book.
Thank you so much to Keri Beevis & NetGalley for an early copy of this thrilling story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Every book I have read from this author has got better and better. This one is my favourite so far it gripped from the first page until the very last page. Fantastically written with well developed characters. The story just flows throughout I could not put it down. It was an edge of your seat thriller with many twists in the story. Highly recommended. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A love story that quickly turns into a nightmare. The writing was fab
Characters were great they came across very believable
This authors books are just amazing
There's no limit some people will go for love.
Duncan Stone Callie Parker in a whirlwind romance, that is no fairy-tale.
A totally gripping addictive read with heartstopping chapters and clever from this outstanding author.
I loved reading every single chapter.
Thank you to NetGalley, Boldwood Books and Keri Beevis for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Keri you have done it again and have yet to disappoint me.
This book was so well written it played out in my mind like watching a movie.
This psychological thriller took off with a bang and never let up until the end of the book. It was full of suspense and had you rooting for the main female character and absolutely wanting to throw the main male character into a river of hungry alligators.
I really appreciated the accurate depiction of of domestic abuse, the effect it has on its victims and the cycle that those relationships go through. As a survivor of domestic abuse, Keri you really did this justice.
Don't sleep on this one folks, you won't be disappointed. Also check your trigger warnings before you dive in.
Fairy tale to nightmare…love to evil…this is a story of mystery and intrigue. It is dark…gloomy…frightening…be prepared…the protagonist is in love…then she is not…he does not act like she thought he would…isolation…horrendous actions…scary…not for the faint hearted…difficult to finish…that being said, this author fashions a novel that is actually true to life..Netgalley
Callie falls head over heels for Duncan Stone. He is everything she could wish for. Handsome, attentive, rich…..but when she moves in with him, far from home, she discovers who he really is. This is an intense thriller about domestic abuse. Beevis writes with such skill that the narrative is uncomfortable in its shocking realism. The story is told partly in present day and partly in the past to give us Callie’s history. It was, due to the subject matter, a hard read. Be aware of your own triggers. However, the story moves at lightning speed and I couldn’t put it down. I also loved the references to my hometown of Devon.
The characters are all given a tremendous amount of depth so you will be rooting for Callie, Nico and Lauren.
**Book trigger warning*** physical abuse, narcissism, controlling partner, verbal abuse.
Callie falls head over heels with Duncan Stone, famous retired actor and current philanthropist but he turns out to anything but a loving partner to our main character. This story is told through the past, highlighting the abuse Callie endured during her time with Duncan and the present day and her desperate need to stay hidden from him.
The detailed descriptions of abuse Callie is exposed to is hard to read, and I would take note of the trigger warnings I have placed at the top of this review. Duncan is NOT a nice man, ok guys! Callie is a broken woman and the present tense chapters encapsulates her will and desire to become herself again with the help of old acquaintance, Nico, whilst still living in constant fear of Duncan finding her.
I finished this book in a day. I could NOT get enough and right up until the last word, it did not disappoint. This is the first novel I have read from Keri Beevis and it will definitely not be the last, because there is nothing better in life then a great storyteller.
Thank you to Boldwood Books, Netgalley and Keri Beevis for the opportunity to read and review this soon to be published novel.
Callie has allegedly died, her belongings were found but not a body. At least that's what her former partner Duncan is meant to think. In reality she has moved and gone to live with some old friends in Norfolk. Duncan is a celebrity and to begin with Callie couldn't believe that he was interested in her. She has gone from a confident young woman to one who questions every move she makes. Duncan was very controlling and punished her for any wrong move- from violence to shutting her away for hours on end and worse. Alternating chapters tell of her life with Duncan and since the escape. When she hears noises around the cottage she is terrified that Duncan could have found her. Can she stay hidden and more to the point stay safe?
Ooh! This is another cracker of a read from Keri. There’s a palpable tension between the pages which grew the further I got into the book. It is unsettling in parts, but maybe few realise that this type of thing does happen in real life and books like this raise awareness of both domestic abuse and coercive control. A brilliant plot that kept me enthralled all the way through. Clever, calculated and chilling. One to keep you up all night reading.
