4.5/5 stars! This is the first book in the Kylar chronicles, which in turn is a pseudo-continuation of the Night Angel series. This series is deeply developed and without reading the original trilogy there may be moments that are hard to follow. Outside of that, this book is still packed with action and a level of dark humor. Will definitely be continuing this series.

Night Angel Nemesis is the latest book in the Night Angel series and it was such a rollercoaster ride.
This is a long book with a dark and complex vibe without the classic happy story. The pace was right on top and the morally grey setting makes us more immersed in the story.
I cannot wait to see what Brent will come with in the future,

Time has passed since the Battle of Black Barrow. Kylar Stern finds himself back on his home turf, in the warrens of Cenaria. The black Ka-Kari still speaks to him. A child stands in the way of his Deader (at least that is what he used to call them) but no matter. He has an order from High King Logan. Trudana Jadwin must die. The Night Angel must decide whether to offer mercy before judgment.
Kylar is still learning the Ka-Kari’s quirks and limitations, as well as facing its obtuse and wry humour on a more regular basis as he relates his story to the magic. In Durzo’s continued absence, Momma K needs to call on Kylar’s skills yet again. There is a kingdom at stake, and for Kylar, failure will mean the loss of Logan as a friend, along with so much more that he does not yet understand.
Viridiana has been released from her bond with Kylar but is still tied to him in other ways. She is the only one who can read the book he enchanted, and thus the only one who might be able to find him, and the much coveted black Ka-Kari. Her sisters, of course, have their own reasons for wanting Kylar, and Vi has no choice but to try to track his movements before the war council convenes.
Night Angel Nemesis picks up the story from the point of view of an older, grittier Kylar who has been worn down by life and seen too many of its horrors… particularly too many at his own hands. It is a brave author who can put his hero through the events Kylar faces in this book, and an honest protagonist who can tell them in all their terrible detail.
Those who know this author well, will see more than a little of Kip Guile in this older Kylar Stern. There is a recognisable vulnerability and self-judgment that accompanies the naïvety of the Kylar we know of old. He retains his determination and his sense of humour, he still sometimes trusts too easily, particularly when it comes to young women sent to accompany him, and he still battles with the truth of who is he, and the deeds he has done.
If it has been a while, a re-read of the Night Angel trilogy before moving onto this first in The Kylar Chronicles is recommended, as there are so many nuanced details and key moments of the past that would enrich Kylar and Vi’s roles and reactions in this new novel. Weeks has truly embraced the grimdark, and poured heart and soul into our hero’s journey. We are granted a long, tantalising adventure that plucks at the heartstrings and has us turning pages in equal curiosity, celebration and exasperation as events play out. We are left with shock, awe and a definite desire for the next part of the story.

I was looking forward to read this book because first the cover is magnificent and second, the blurb made it sounds so great! I would say that it takes a little time to get into it but once you do, it's quite entertaining. I didn't like the characters as much as I thought (they were quite annoying) but the rest of the story was great. It's epic fantasy, it's dark and if this is your vibe then go for it!

I have a bit of mixed feelings about this one. I enjoyed the idea of the story and the portrait morals but I struggled a bit with getting a connection to the characters. The writing style is good and it’s a rather fast paced book, which I love!

This didn’t really do it for me. The voice of the main character was annoying and so I kept getting thrown from the story. I think though that many Brent Weeks fans will be happy with this though so don’t take my word for it! Many thanks to Netgalley for an arc of this book.

This is the Author's latest book in the Night Angel series - it is an emotional roller coaster
This long , long book is the Author at his best , it is a dark and complex read , with the odd moments of humour .
If you want the classic happy ending all round - forget it . Kylar spends an awful lot of his time feeling doomed
and wondering where he goes next .
Told from the perspective of Vi reading Kylar's diary we are drawn into a world of tragic events they are both involved in !
What follows is a fast paced book , where the characters draw you in and the Author's dark twisted morals enhances
the readers experience
I look forward to reading more from the Author in the future
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

Wow! The best book Weeks has written yet.
As an early fan of the Night Angel series, I've been waiting for this book for a long time. It did not disappoint. I am so glad that Weeks took the time to mature as a writer before deciding to tackle such a massive project. This was an emotional rollercoaster.
I don't want to give too much away, but of course it has violence and intrigue and magic. It also has heartache and pain and deception and betrayal.
What a ride and I can't wait to see where we go next and what we learn next!
