This book definitely did not disappoint. Loved catching up with the characters from the previous books and loved hearing Lydia's story. Couldn't put the book down.
[arc] I’ve read the first two books in this series, and loved both. This one is the story of a seventy-something mum falling in love after her fifth divorce.
It’s a cute summer read, but the plot was really predictable and dull in places.
I felt frustrated with the leading lady’s tunnel vision, and really didn’t take to her. (This may well be a “me” problem, but I found her stubbornness and secretive nature really frustrating).
If you’ve read the first two books, it’s worth reading to catch up with the other characters. I wouldn’t recommend it as a standalone though.
Driftwood you will always have my heart. I have loved my journey back in the cornish cove and have loved catching up with all the other characters from the other 2 books.
Its an easy read that I flew through and can't wait to read the next instalment from Kim.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Not content with getting us all obsessed with lighthouses, now Kim Nash has turned our heads to dancing!
I have thoroughly enjoyed the last two books in the Cornish Cove series, and this third was a wonderful addition. In Makin Memories, we focus on Lydia, the mother of the first Cove main character, Meredith.
Lydia is a woman of a certain age. In her seventies, she has been divorced several times and finally wants to put herself first. She is sent a box of old belongings that starts a cascade of memories from when she fell pregnant with Mere, and feelings arise once it starts.
Lydia loved dancing competitively, though no one knew this. An opportunity to take part in a competition brings many thoughts back to the forefront of her mind, including how she could improve her relationship with her daughter and whether, at 71, she is too old for romance.
What a lovely story! Easy to read and such fun, with plenty of revisits to the characters from the first two books, but enough in them for you to read as a stand-alone.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for an ARC.
It was good to be back at the Cornish cove with this next instalment in the series and felt like reconnecting with old friends.
This instalments focuses on the character of Lydia meridiths mum and of the relationship between mum and daughter the author has the ability to get to the heart of human emotion and writes about real and relatable situations in a very heartfelt way.
The book dedication was also simply beautiful and a fitting tribute to the authors aunt.
A warm and engaging book written in Kim's unique heartwarming 'down to earth' style with realistic characters and a relatable plot. And hooray for the main character being an older woman. Lydia is a delight and her relationship with Meredith is wonderful. Kim's book are like a rainbow of love, hope and friendship that will brighten up your day.
This is the third book in what I can only describe as a fabulous series 💕.
The series is based in Driftwood Bay, Cornwall and each book focuses on different residents in the bay but we do catch up with everyone in each book. What a lovely community it is.
I really feel a connection with all of the characters and think of them as friends, if that makes sense.
One character made be laugh out loud every time she opened her mouth ........ Vi, she is a woman of a certain age who says exactly what she thinks, she's hilarious.
The stories are heartfelt, warm and lift your spirits so much and I really hope we hear lots more from Driftwood Bay.
I found this book so emotional and heartwarming. The connection between Lydia and her Daughter is so lovely. A previously broken relationship rebuilt, it was very relatable.
I absolutely adore the dedication to the authors Aunt, she sounds like she was an amazing woman, what a beautifully honest thing. Feisty and Honest, I feel like this is a good explanation of this book as well as your aunt. What a beautiful connection.
I loved Meredith and Vi as well as Lydia of course and at the beginning I think I judged Dianne (two n's) haha, but she turns out to be a wonderful person and a great friend.
I loved revisiting the Cornish Cove and Driftwood bay. I have loved all three of the Cornish Cove books.
“Making Memories at the Cornish Cove” is a super continuation of the story of Meredith and her no longer estranged mother, Lydia. Both now fully ensconced in life at Driftwood Bay.
Reading this is like returning to the arms of a loving family. Each character in the series has their own story to tell with secrets, often shared as they find the comfort and understanding of friends in the community .
As with all the books in this series, Kim interweaves joy with sorrow and delicately covers big issues such as teenage pregnancy, cancer, menopause and the loss of a partner.
I find it very refreshing that the main characters are not bright young things just starting out in life but older people, finding their way and in particular finding joy in all they do. Meredith is in her 50’s, her Mum her 70’s and Vi her 80’s all of these women are experiencing aspects of life that require a change of mindset and as the stories unfold we see how they cope, learning to accept support and friendship to forgive, forget and move forward mist of all to love themselves and all the changes that are occurring. I was completely absorbed whilst reading and particularly enjoyed the journey Lydia goes on as she rediscovers her delight and skills on the dance floor.
Firstly before I get into my review I want to say what a beautiful dedication the author has written for this book. It’s so emotive and I certainly shed a tear seeing the love she has for her aunt. It really makes this publication feel like an honour to read, knowing it was written at such a difficult time. The letter to Aunty Beryl is just perfect. Sending love to Kim Nash.
My Review:
Kim Nash has such a beautiful way with words.
They flow so effortlessly that you can’t help but go through several emotions when you read her stories. Not only is she a beautiful writer she writes deep meaningful stories you can relate to whether it’s through elements of love, humour, friendship or elements of sadness that she portrays so delicately, which flow through her words.
Driftwood Bay sounds like an idealic seaside village to live, a beautiful place where life’s pace is calm and serene, where everyone is a friend and looks out for each other. The characters are all as important in their own right and with each book we are emerged back into a community of well written characters whose lives don’t stay still but have also progressed along with the main focus of the one character. I can wait to see who book four will be about.
If you want a new author to try you absolutely need it to be Kim Nash. She really is a phenomenal writer.
A simple, light, read about family, friends and community. You don’t need to have read the other books in this series to understand this book.
With a standard, small-town plot used many times before, and a cast of interesting characters, this was an all-round good read.
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this ARC in return for my honest review.
This is book #3 in the Cornish Cove series, and whilst it can easily be read as a standalone book I would recommend reading the books in series order for better understanding of the characters backgrounds. We return to Driftwood Bay where we pick up the story with Lydia who moved to be nearer her daughter Meredith. Lydia and Meredith's relationship is a tricky one as Lydia wasn't around for much of Meredith's younger years, but now Lydia is back near her she's hoping to make amends for her past mistakes.
I loved this book and loved being back in Driftwood Bay. The author certainly knows how to pick the most beautiful places to base her books around and the fictional village of Driftwood Bay drew me in again with it's sandy beaches and calming seas. I could just picture myself unrolling my yoga mat next to Lydia and sit listening to the waves! Lydia is a lovely character and it's refreshing to see an older lady as the main character. Her blossoming friendship with Meredith's partner's dad, Martin was heart-warming and I found their dancing storyline so much fun! If you've read the previous books in the series, we get to meet again some of the characters which have been in those books. I really like Meredith and Clem and still loved Vi as I have done since the beginning!! We also get to meet new characters Dianne (with two 'N's) and Miguel who were an absolute dream to be introduced to! Driftwood Bay has such a wonderful community spirit that there wasn't anything that would put me off living somewhere like it!
Whilst it was such a light-hearted entertaining read, it also had it's more emotional parts throughout and there was a difficult subject dealt with in Lydia's storyline. This was handled sensitively though and I could really sympathise with Lydia's character throughout. On the whole though, the story was fun and gave me lots of smiles and giggles as I read, and I found myself laughing out loud with one character's big reveal! This was an absolutely delightful read and definitely my favourite of the series! The storyline flowed along well, was easy to read and once started I couldn't put it down until I'd finished!! The perfect piece of escapism!!
a wonderful read about the people at Cornish Cove. One of the lovely things about this book was the age of some of the characters a really great mix of different generations who all got on so well together. They were all supportive and helpful of each other. I really liked Lydia's character and her lovely relationship with her daughter Meredith. I laughed so much at some of the wonderful characters. This was one of the best stories I have read lately.
I struggled in the beginning to get into this book. The age of the main character did not help but it got better and better. I had read the first one. One of the story lines was a tough read. I won’t spoil it. I sometimes think you read a book at the wrong time. I like the way Kim Nash writes.. There was some good mother and daughter bonding Lots of delicate subject covered .
This time round the story centres on Lydia, mum to Meredith who has moved to Driftwood Bay to be closer to her daughter and to make amends for not being a huge part of her childhood. Whilst mother and daughter have been getting on, it has been weighing heavily on Lydia’s mind and she wants to prove to her daughter that she is a changed woman and to have a great mother and daughter relationship.
Being on her own gives Lydia plenty of time to think about her life and the opportunities that she missed out on. What I loved most about this book is through Lydia as well as some of the other characters, is that its never too late. Whether that be in taking chances and doing the things we always wanted to or finding love, it doesn’t matter what age you are, there is always time if you make the effort.
There are so many wonderful characters and this is a place that has it’s community spirit at the heart of it. Everyone looks out for each other whilst being a reminder that its good to let people in and no one needs to struggle on their own. Vi is just a brilliant character who you never know quite what she will come out with and more than a few times she had my jaw dropping and doubled over with laughter. We all need someone like that in our lives. There would never be a dull moment that’s for sure! With Lydia being seventy one, and a young seventy one year old at that, it made me reassess the things that are really important in life and how companionship is a truly wonderful thing.
Making Memories at the Cornish Cove was such a beautiful and meaningful story that had me laughing out loud as well as feeling like my heart was going to burst with joy. It was an absolute tonic! I went through so many emotions and adored every moment of this wonderful novel. There are some authors and stories whose writing you just connect with on a different level and Kim Nash and her books does that with me. Funny, heartfelt, uplifting, just gorgeous!
Lydia now feels that she's found what she was looking for and especially after reconnecting with her daughter Meredith. She always loved to dance but circumstances prevented her from doing so but now she has the chance to take it up again
I loved author Kim Nash's Cornish Cove series from the very first moment I picked up the first book in it.
I've read all of Kim's books and I really feel she had found her writing mojo with this series. She has confidence in what she is writing and has the ability to tell a mighty fine story.
Kim has created such friendly, relatable characters in her series that I feel I would love to know them all.
I am from a small village in the South East of Ireland and I know all about community.
Kim has created a wonderful community in Driftwood Bay where everyone looks out for each other. Isn't that what life is about, caring for your friends and neighbours.
Making Memories at The Cornish Cove brings sparkle, friendship and the most beautiful mother daughter relationship.
Their special scene together I will admit had me blubbering.
I adored Lydia & Martin in this story, their friendship, love of dance and restoration. The slow build to their relationship is wonderful.
Other characters in her series made an appearance in this story which only delighted me.
I so wanted to get started on this next story to see where she took her characters but equally didn't want to have to say goodbye to them.
Kim created the most wonderful story around her characters and I feel they will stay with me for quite a while..
I felt sad to say goodbye to them all but it's only goodbye for now.
A huge well done Kim, you nailed it yet again my dear xxx
A nice story about family, friends and a tight knit community. I would recommend reading the first in the series first, though it stands fine on its own.
This was such a wholesome and sweet Read. I loved seeing the relationship develop between Lydia and Martin throughout the book but I also loved seeing the mother and daughter relationship develop between Lydia and Meredith.
In this book it was a story with love throughout community, friends, and family where they all come together to help each other.
I loved seeing the friendship and relationship form between Lydia and Martin, they were both so sweet together.
I really enjoyed reading this book and found myself falling in love with several of the characters because of the writing style.
I've only read this book in the series, but I will definitely go back and read the rest. I'll also be keeping an eye out for Kim's other books.
*Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for providing me this arc in return for an honest review*
Lydia intends on spending time with her daughter, Meredith, but she finds so much more than their connection. A spritely septuagenarian, having been married five times, she never expected to find love yet again. Moving to Driftwood Bay was a huge adjustment for Lydia. This is for more than one reason. Not only had she lived in America for years, she was rather estranged from her daughter Meredith.
While a big part of this fabulous book shows the slow-burn of what develops between Lydia and Martin, Meredith's soon-to-be father-in-law, it was watching the relationship growth between mother and daughter that was the real draw to this story.
What a wonderful story of family, friendship, community and love. With moments of sadness, this truly engrossing one-sitting read by Kim Nash is a fabulous addition to the other books in the delightful Cornish Cove series. This amazingly-talented author could not have written Lydia's character any better. This warm and engaging story had a really heartwarming ending as it was filled with wonderful characters and is an excellent display of growth and relationships.
Many thanks to Boldwood Books and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
