A psychological thriller with a few too many coincidences and twists. I couldn’t get invested in the characters and struggled to get into it.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Headline for a ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

When detective Stephanie King is staying on the Cornish coast, she doesn't expect to meet three women she will soon be investigating. Woven together by shared wrongs from Ellis Corbain, the three women never expected to be caught up in the investigation into his death. But who is telling the whole truth, and who has more to hide?

When I finally got into this, I actually really enjoyed it, its just that I have to say, it didn't grip me until maybe the last third of the book. The twists weren't that shocking to me either, but that doesn't really matter to me in a detective book - I actually like having a good idea who the murderer is. I also think a twist near the end would have hit harder if I'd read the previous Stephanie King books, but this was my first.

It was quite interesting having a victim who you weren't that upset was dead - in some ways I quite enjoyed that no-one was particularly devastated by his death, but it did also mean you weren't as invested in his murderer. I didn't really see this as a thriller, more of a mystery, and if I'd gone in expecting a twisty thriller I'd have been disappointed.

I did enjoy the ending, though I think people who have read the previous books might have been more likely to not like it. It felt right for the story for me, and like it was a satisfying end.

I am new to this series and new to the author but I will definitely be looking at other books by her. A great story with twists and turns, would be a great holiday read!

A good story but I found it hard to care about any of the main characters. It would be a good holiday read, however.

I found this hard to get in to, I will try and see if a physical copy holds by interest and review on social media

Celia, Juliette & Nadia, seemingly strangers, have one thing in common - arrogant Ellis Cobain
When they realise their connection, they form a pact to blackmail him and free themselves
The next morning, when his dead body is found on his luxurious yacht, they are left scrambling to try and cover their tracks

This novel is the latest in the Stephanie King series

It’s a well crafted thriller told from the perspective of all three women, with great twists and turns and a shocking end I didn’t see coming
Loved the Cornish setting and the writing style, the author captures your attention straightaway

Thanks @rachelabbottwriter @headlinebooks & @netgalley for the explosive thriller

I have enjoyed other novels by Rachel Abbott but I couldn’t engage with this one. About 40% through I gave up. I found the shifting viewpoints a bit formulaic and I didn’t care about any of the three female protagonists. There may have been an outstanding twist to the tale but unfortunately I didn’t stay engaged long enough to uncover it.

Oh wow!

Rachel has only gone and done it again

In the Last time I saw him. We once again meet DI Stephanie King, along with her Partner Gus who is also a Police officer.
At the start of this book Stephanie and her mum, have gone away for a weekends break to a lovely hotel set in beautiful grounds near the sea while there Stephanie finds it difficult at times to turn of her work brain and spots a few things, which cause her to ponder.
Shortly after she returns to work and is called by her Partner Gus, to join his murder investigation. A body has been found at the hotel her and her mum were staying g at.

We Leo meet 3nwomen, who seemingly have never met and have nothing in common or do they?

Steph, Gus and the team work hard to solve this case

I found myself drawn to most of the characters and thoroughly enjoyed reading this title. Several tears were also shed!

Thank to Netgalley and Rachel for allowing me to be part of her early reader team (sorry I am behind with this one)

I couldn't get into this book. I didn't find it at all interesting. I read 5 chapters but could not continue any further.

Thanks to NetGalley, publishers and author for an ARC of #TheLastTimeISawHim.

I'm new to the series involving the main detective, Stephanie King, but this book does not need a read of the previous books as far as I can tell.
What a book, what a story. One man, three scorned women and a murder. Whodunit? I was left guessing until the very last second before the reveal.
Possibly my only complaint regarding the book is the length.
Recommend 3.5 stars

I've really enjoyed this series so far and this book was a great addition to it. I was intrigued from the beginning about the three women - Celia, Juliette and Nadia who all have a reason to kill Ellis and now he has been found murdered on his yacht! I kept going back and forth about what might have happened and how might have done it. It was great following Stephanie and Gus as they tried to piece together this puzzle. I enjoyed the resolution of the whodunnit and it wasn't what I expected. I do have to say that I was disappointed with how the book ended (can't say in anymore detail as don't want to give spoilers) though, it felt unnecessary. On the whole though this was a great read that I finished in just two sittings and I am keen to find out what happens next in this series!

We all know the saying about a woman scorned. Well imagine 3 women who all have their own reasons for wanting Ellis dead.
Cecilia the wife who has put up with years of domestic violence. Jennifer the mistress or Nadia the singer from his past.
Steph was on holiday in the same place so when Ellis was murdered it made sense she went back to investigate it alongside her more senior boyfriend Gus.
So many twists and turns along the way the pages just keep turning. Gasps and tears were heard from me too. Fab story and a very good read.

Rachel Abbott weaves a dark and twisty thriller about three women—Celia, Juliette, and Nadia—who are strangers, but are connected by one common thread: their tormentor, Ellis Cobain. Cobain, a wealthy philanthropist seemingly on his way to knighthood, hides a darker side that only the women closest to him know. His public image is spotless, but behind closed doors, he's a manipulator who has wronged each of these women in deeply personal ways.

Brought together at a remote, boutique hotel on the Cornish coast, Celia, Juliette, and Nadia form a pact to free themselves from Cobain’s control. However, things take a deadly turn when a body is found, forcing the women to cover their tracks and confront the horrifying possibility that one of them could be next.

As they try to outwit each other and protect their own secrets, the tension mounts. Can they trust one another, or will betrayal from within tear them apart?

- Psychological Thriller:

This gripping tale of betrayal, revenge, and survival will keep readers on the edge of their seats, questioning who to trust and what will happen next. It's a dark, suspenseful ride packed with surprising turns and complex characters.

Thank you NetGallely for the ARC of The Last Time I Saw Him by Rachel Abbott in return for my honest review.
This is the 4th book in the Stephanie King series and although you can definitely read it as a standalone, I would however recommend reading them all as you’ll get a better understanding of the main characters and their relationship plus you’ll get to read some brilliant stories so win win.
I loved this story its fast paced with lots of twists and turns and a big surprise that I didn’t see coming, can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Ellis has been murdered. There are three main suspects but who did it?? An interesting fast paced book following both the suspects and the police who are trying to solve the murder. Interesting interactions between the wife, the ex-mistress and the mistress. They all hated him for various reasons but who hated him enough??

This was a great thriller with a twist at the end which left me pretty stunned! Interesting characters set against a beautiful backdrop - a plot that required serious unravelling, but an enjoyable whodunnit!

When a body is found on a yacht moored near a classy hotel, Stephanie King is called on to the investigation team headed up by her partner Gus. The man (Ellis) turns out to be a rich self-named philanthropist, staying at the hotel with his wife. Further complicated by Stephanie staying at the same hotel a week prior with her mum and having some contact with the victim, his wife and the potential suspects. She seems to have the advantage, of having spent time people watching, and observing the people the case centred on.

There are three main suspects – Celia (the wife), Juliette (Mistress) and Nadia (the singer). As links are uncovered between three seemingly strangers, the question is which one of the women actually murdered Ellis.

I found this to be an engaging and enjoyable read, trying to figure out who the murderer was when every character had a water tight alibi. The book is full of twists, with many characters telling quite a few lies as they try to cover up what really happened.

The ending was quite a shock, I wasn’t expecting that outcome, but it sets up the next book very well and which will no doubt be interesting to see which direction the character development goes in.

4 Stars.
