Good book written in the usual style of the author which will force you to keep reading and thinking about the book when you are not reading. Kept me guessing and I enjoyed it.
A brilliant book that I loved. I burnt dinners and went to bed at the much later time because of the writing which is so good it kept me enthralled. Would really recommend
I usually love Rachel’s books and especially the Stephanie King series but for me this one wasn’t as good as the others. I didn’t like any of the characters and got a bit bored with the storyline which seemed a bit repetitive. I usually can’t put her books down but this one I found a struggle to want to carry on reading. I didn’t like the ending either. Just not for me. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
Another brilliant book written by Rachel. Following the death of Nora’s dad there are questions as to whether he was pushed or whether he fell.
How much did Liams children actually know about him. Following Liam’s death Nora and Sam get to know each other and themselves and also to know their father in a way they never did before
The book is about family love relationships and loss with an added touch of mystery
Loved it
I’ve just finished this book and really loved it!
It’s my first in the Stephanie King series however that didn’t make any difference at all. The book had many layers and the three main characters each held a different perspective of the events leading from the first initial weekend at the beginning of the book. The opening chapter was a great start, as key events took place which helped to keep peeling back the layers as the story unfolded.
Loved this and will definitely be reading more by this author. Would definitely recommend this book!
Coercive controller, abuser and tormentor Elias Cobain seems like a great guy. He is on the way towards a knighthood but all is not what it seems. Beneath the shiny surface, he is a monster underneath and the people who know this best are the women who have been subjected to his abuse. As they gather in a hotel on the Cornish coast to come up with a plan to blackmail him to get themselves free of him a shocking murder takes place and Elias is found dead. But who killed hiim? Will the women stick together and cover each others secrets or will all the secrets spill out and ruin their lives all over again? Very good read. I enjoyed it and was really guessing until the end.
I love this author and this book did not disappoint. I can honestly say I was really satisfied with the ending of this book. This guy was truly dispicable and I had no sympathy for what happened to him but spent the whole book thinking i knew what had gone on then having it all turned on its head. A great thriller to sink your teeth into.
I really struggled with this book. Although the storyline was good it just seemed to go back and forwards which I personally struggled with.howrver, that could've just been me.
Amazing! Absolutely amazing. I loved every second of this book. Its so well written woth characters that are brought to life perfectly. There are just so many perfectly executed twists and turns that I couldnt put it down. The perfect thriller in my eyes!!
This is the latest outing for DS Stephanie King, and it doesn’t disappoint.
When Stephanie and her mother have a weekend break at a very smart Cornish coastal hotel, she doesn’t expect it to end in a murder investigation.
Ellis Cobain is found dead on his yacht, and it quickly becomes apparent that a lot of people had reason to wish him ill, in particular three seemingly unconnected women who were in the hotel at the time.
As the police investigation takes place, and the women’s stories become clear, it’s impossible to guess how the deed was executed.
With lots of twists, and a dramatic life-changing ending, the truth becomes apparent.
Thanks to Netgalley and Headline for the opportunity to read this book.
Really enjoyed this book - so many twists and turns and great characters - i read the book in the space of a day. cant wait to read more of Rachels wonderful work. Highly recommended.
Having read most of Rachel Abbott's books and particularly enjoying the DCI Tom Douglas series I was keen to read this. I didn’t realise it was part of the Stephanie King series which hadn't appealed to me before but thought it would be enjoyable.
It was full of twists and turns as I would expect but I found it hard to warm to any of the characters, including Stephanie.
Ellis Cobain is a thoroughly awful man and three of the women whose lives he has tainted inadvertently meet up and discover how they have all been badly treated with no end in sight. They come up with a plan to rectify this.
Stephanie happened to be in the same place as the other women for a short time but her detective training means she is observant and sees more than others may.
An interesting tale which kept me guessing until the unexpected end but I think I will stick to Tom Douglas.
Thank you to Netgalley and Headline for the DRC.
This was a good thriller, the character of Ellis Cobain was absolutely vile and why the police even tried to find his killer was a mystery, he was no loss! I enjoyed the book but found it a wee bit convoluted in the execution of the death of Cobain. There are plenty of surprises in the book and the author isn't afraid to throw in huge shocks as well. I enjoy all of this author's books.
This author is new to me but I will definitely be reading more of her books. This was #4 in the DS Stephanie King series but can easily be read as a standalone.
The story is set in a high-end hotel on the Cornish coast, where three women – Celia, Juliette, and Nadia – are strangers to each other but soon find they have a man in common, Ellis Cobain. He’s a wealthy philanthropist but a horrible person to the women in his life, and makes their lives a misery.
Celia, Juliette, and Nadia get their heads together and make a plan to get revenge and bring Ellis down. The next morning, Ellis is found murdered and the women are in a panic; was it one of them who killed him and, if so, which one? Who else could it be?
A brilliant story with twists and turns, although part of the ending was, for me, sad and disappointing.
Thank you to NetGalley, Headline and Wildfire for an advance reader copy in return for an honest review.
Rachel Abbott always has the reader gripped from the beginning & she doesn't disappoint with this one.
Nothing is quite how it seems!
She incorporates detailed plot lines with multiple time lines. A page turner which keeps you guessing till the shocking conclusion.
This is the latest novel in the Stephanie King series but can be read as a standalone.
Thankyou to NetGalley for my free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Detective Stephanie King is investigating the murder of Ellis Cobain a man with several enemies.
A story that kept me entertained and guessing until the end.

First I need to express how much I love a good whodunnit. I adore them and could read only them forever. Unfortunately this is not one of the memorable ones.
I didn’t realise this was part of a Stephanie King series but had no trouble reading it as a stand-alone book. Stephanie seems like a good character.
The main issue I have with this book is how unlikeable all the characters are. The women in particular are quite pathetic, moany, wimpy and the story is basically them going around in circles shaking & whinging.
I actually hated this book. It annoyed me.
A really good book that I flew through. Thank you to the writer, publisher, and NetGalley for allowing me to review this book
This was the first Rachel Abbot book I have read and after a quiet start to introduce the main characters with their back stories, the book really came alive with a murder. The main suspects Celia, Juliette and Nadia all had varying reasons to murder the evil Ellis but the police were having great difficulty in breaking down the suspects, resulting in many twists and turns before reaching a surprise ending. This was a very enjoyable read and I look forward to reading more of Rachel Abbott.
A real rollercoaster of a story told from various women’s perspectives. So, who killed the horrible man and was it part of the plot all along to actually kill him? Will the nice lady detective and her partner discover the truth before tragedy strikes?
I can’t say I liked any of the 3 scheming women and the murder victim was vile however the end, as shocking as it was, seemed a bit unlikely (plenty of clues throughout the book how it was going to end) it was just a case of who it was going to happen to!
It’s not an easily forgotten book for sure, and it’s certainly gripping however I’ve deducted one star for the abrupt, puzzling and sad ending which has left it ready for the next book in the series..
Thank you to Netgalley the author and publishers for an arc in exchange for an honest review
