This was a NetGalley read for me that was recommended and I thought, why not! Really not sure how I feel. The book is good. It has a decent story line, few trigger warnings and the theme of the book is controversial. All things I enjoy. The main character Rita, is just chaotic. She’s kind of a mess. She’s not a very good person but I think the author wants her to be perceived as one. She’s most definitely flawed but her actions in this book are questionable. I think the fact I don’t know how to feel about her is swaying my rating with this read.

The other character is just as bad. Another unlikeable character. They kind of ruined the book for me. They’re supposed to be friends but haven’t seen each other since they left senior school. They slot straight back into what was originally quite a toxic friendship and it hasn’t worked. I think this just didn’t flow. The book seemed pieced together. It’s a weird one.

Im not one for slating a book but this threw me as I did enjoy the theme, I found the story to be quite original, but I just wasn’t vibing with it. I do think this will do well. I think I would read more by the author but I’m a beginning, middle and end kind of book lover. The books that read like this, just don’t do it for me.

Overs rating is 3.5.

A cleverly written book. Rita Marsh inherited a care home from her mum and dad. At night Rita takes on a very different persona in chatting online and meeting up with and snaring child molesters. Rita is a very complex character. When Rita’s friend Javid insists on her attending a school reunion her life takes a fearful turn after she meets up with an old school friend, Leila, with whom Rita was very close to.
This is a hard read, dealing with sexual and anger issues. It brings a dark subject into the light. How far will someone go to protect their friend and other victims?
This is a courageous theme to take on and Nilesha Chauvet has produced a thrilling read.

This is not an easy read, I had some difficulty with the subject of grooming and child abuse, but also with the character of Rita. The book is told from her point of view and her reasoning is, at times, strange. The reasons for this do start to become apparent as you get into the book but her obsessions do not make for easy reading. Saying that, I did feel the need to carry on reading the book and the pace picked up in the last 25% of the book . It is a book which I will be thinking about in the coming weeks, definately a message which needs to be heard, but I'm not sure that it has been told in the right way.

This was about sometimes had to choose from justice and revenge
It was a real eye opener

Although I did read this very fast and the premise was good, with a great ending, something felt not fully formed, the writing style felt immature

The precis for The Revenge of Rita Marsh made mention of it being a thriller, sadly, for me it wasn't. However, I am very glad I read it because it's quite a story and weirdly plausible. Yes, Rita Marsh is a vigilante, coaxing deviant men from behind their screens and keyboards to a meet-up, whilst all along posing as an underage girl. But why does Rita do this? In the novel we find out that she was once that underage girl and had her childhood ruined by a man. This event changed her, only being able to express her damaged soul by trying to prevent it happening to others but the damage ran deeper. Meeting an old chum at a school reunion, it rekindled young emotions but would they be reciprocated? When she discovered her chum may have been abused almost under her nose at the school they both went to, she sets out to seek revenge. What though is the real driver for this? Jealousy? Unrequited love? You'll have to readit it to find out.
A commendable debut novel.

A bit on the fence with this one. I thought it was good and well written just feel like it meandered a bit in the middle which I found annoying but overall its good, thought provoking and believable.

By day, Rita manages a care home; by night, she poses as a young girl online to catch predators, as such, there are some heavy topics such as child grooming and abuse dealt with within this book.
Rita herself, is a complex and troubled character, she’s not really a likeable character that said, the book raises important ethical questions about vigilante justice and morality, making it a thought-provoking read.

The Revenge of Rita Marsh will appeal to readers who enjoy dark, psychological thrillers, It's a book that prompts reflection and discussion, ideal as a book club read

Rita Marsh runs a care home by day and at night she is part of a vigilante group ensnaring paedophiles by posing as young girls online. Sounds like a good premise for a story, but I'm afraid I really didn't enjoy it and struggled to finish it. I didn't like the characters and I found the plot tedious and drawn out.

The Revenge of Rita Marsh a debut mystery by Nilesha Chauvet is a long drawn out story about a woman who hunts down predators who abuse children and how she and her friends reveal them to the public. She also runs a care home which she inherited from her deceased parents.

The storyline just got heavier and heavier as I continued reading and it was just not my cup of tea at all I am sorry to say but other readers may enjoy this book.

Rita Marsh is a vigilante. She sets up traps for paedophiles online but things are getting out of hand. The police don't seem to realise she's helping them and reluctantly she agrees to stop. When Leila, a friend from the past comes back into her life this gives her something else to obsess about - with disastrous results.

Rita is clearly a very disturbed young woman and her character is well drawn; However, it is hard to warm to her and I found her very unlikeable and too prone to making idiotic choices. The subject matter of child grooming is sensitively handled but I found it hard to believe how her parents react to an incident in her childhood. Overall the writing is accomplished.

My overall feeling is that I found my dislike of the character of Rita outweighed the positives in the writing. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC.

Rita Marsh is a hunter - by day, she cares for the remaining two elderly residents of her parents care home; by night, she hunts men, who pose a threat to children, by pretending to be a young girl, online. When one of her 'victims' commits suicide and the police challenge her behaviour, she knows it is time to stop. Against her better judgement, when she is invited to a school reunion, she accepts. She rekindles her friendship with Leila, her childhood friend. When she hears a rumour that one of her ex-teachers has been accused of abuse and discovers that Leila had a relationship with him, she spirals out of control... what happens next is not pretty. This book deals with the dark side of obsession. An uncomfortable read in places but enjoyable nonetheless.

It was great until the midway point when it all went wrong. The characters are will written and fully formed. The plot was great until she failed to do the obvious which was call the ambulance!

This was a good book covering some very dark subjects which it did well. But I just didn’t like the characters, they were all hard to get along with so while it’s a good book I didn’t feel engaged with it the same way I do when characters are likeable.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in return for my honest and unbiased opinion.

This was a well written book containing very interesting and controversial topics. I can’t honestly say I enjoyed it, in fact I found it quite disturbing. It was a dark read with a lot of horror. I couldn’t warm to Rita (or any of the characters) at all, and think she made some very bad decisions throughout. Her relationship with Leila began to get on my nerves, I couldn’t understand it, and I just thought the ending was sad and unnecessary. I know a lot of readers will love this book but it didn’t really hit the mark for me. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the early copy. I hope it does well.

I really enjoyed this book, granted there are some very dark topics but I think the majority was handled very sensitively.
I did find myself very sympathetic towards Rita and I really enjoyed the deep character study the author provided her with.

I could not put this down. If I didn't like sleep I would have read this in one day.
This story follows a serious topic. Rita herself is an interesting characters. Her flaws are on show and with her own history it's clear she carries a lot of pain and hurt, which makes her behaviour the way she does.
I also understand why Lelia believes what she believes, because she too also needs therapy.

I'm left wanting a book two. Following Rita and Lawson.

Enjoy this book surprising. When it started, I thought it was going to be heavy. like the storyline as it made sense why she was so angry with her past

Well, I am sorry not to be able to 'enjoy' this book. Yes, it is well written, highly descriptive and very dark. I found Rita unpleasant, but also someone to feel sorry for. There seemed to be no redemption, just horror.
I'm glad to have read it, and thank NetGalley for the chance to read this book, but I would not read another by this author.
