Takeaway: Hrum was an action packed sci fi story that has a gripping plot and intriguing characters that are sure to keep your attention and make you want to keep reading!

The Good: Although you'd normally want an amazing book to be super long so it never ends, I actually loved that this was a shorter read (under 400 pages) because Davis did such a great job with the writing and the story and wrapped it up so well. I loved how action packed the story was but still made room for character development. A lot of characters can get lost in action based sci fi stories, but Davis balanced this well.

The "Bad": I wasn't completely immersed and found myself taking my time reading this book. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It just wasn't one of those books that I "couldn't put down". I absolutely loved the writing and the story, but for my personal 5 star reads, I want to be emotionally wrecked and left in pieces after a story. Even a military based sci fi one! Although, I find that more of a peersonal critique rather than against Davis or the book.

Overall Thoughts: I really enjoyed the story and would definitely recommend to my fellow sci fi/military readers!

Hrum is a fast-paced military sci-fi in the space opera tradition that follows the careers and personalities of three siblings in the Drake family.

I enjoyed this tangled tale, but I did feel the author rushed through the entire battle-and-rise-in-prominence of the lead characters in one book where many would have taken the same timeline over 3 or 4 books (or more). It remains to be seen if this was because the real focus of the series was on the what-happens-next to the characters.

My thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for letting me read this fun book pre-publication.

HRUM: A MILITARY SCIENCE FICTION THRILLER [BOOK 1 OF THE DRAKE CHRONICLES]
by Austin Davis

This is the story of the Drake family who is involved in a galactic war with the Hrum, who are brutal aliens, bent on taking over.

Quotable Quote: "...looked at Jaxton with a side-eye..." Clever wording.

A good start to a new sci-fi series. The book has plenty of action as it follows three members of a family through a war with an alien race. The plot will hold your interest. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series!

Thank you to #NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
