The Cornish Beach Hut Café is an escape to the delightful seaside town of St Aidan. A real coming home story where Floss makes a return to her roots with surprises along the way. Warm and lovely characters that you easily like and I was hooked fom the first few pages..
Good to be back again at St Aidan and to revisit some old friends while making new ones.
Following the ups & downs of Floss as she initially tries to hide away and live a quiet life in a beach hut but failing to do so when her plans are turned upside down.
I loved this story of friendships old & new, family and finding one’s self afresh when faced with adversity. Obviously some romance to be had with the photographer next door, and some high jinks in the very posh-sounding hotel.
I really enjoyed reading this book & hope that we’ll return to St Aidan again in the future.
I love autumn, and I equally adore any novels that carry that atmosphere. Here we have a beautiful story about finding your place. Florence returns to her hometown, buys a small cottage by the shore, and decides to give herself time to recover, gather herself, and decide what to do next.
It’s one of those books that smell like cinnamon buns. Freshly baked goods, cake, amazing coffee, and a place you never want to leave.
There is atmosphere, a wonderful romance, beautiful and complex emotions, and a family in which you can find their strength.
The Cornish Beach Hut Café by Jane Linfoot is a heartwarming and charming story that brings readers back to the idyllic village of St. Aiden.
Florence, better known as Floss, returns to this picturesque Cornish setting seeking a peaceful escape.
However, when she moves into the Beach Hut, she discovers a twist—she needs to start a business to remain there.
Fortunately, Floss isn't alone in this challenge; her amazing group of friends step in to help her get her new venture up and running.
The story takes a delightful turn when Floss encounters a familiar face from her past, living just along the beach.
Without giving away any spoilers, their connection isn't what one might expect in a typical romance, adding a refreshing twist to the narrative.
This book is part of a series but can easily be enjoyed and read as a standalone.
Linfoot masterfully weaves together a mix of returning favourite characters with some new additions, keeping the story engaging and fresh.
Floss faces internal and external struggles, from family tensions with her sister and mother to the challenges of raising an opinionated teen, juggling a new business, and dealing with a lovable dog.
These elements add layers of humour, warmth, and emotional depth to the book.
One of the standout aspects of The Cornish Beach Hut Café is its exploration of serious themes that feel personal, especially after reading the author’s notes.
Linfoot’s ability to balance heartfelt moments with the more lighthearted aspects of the story, such as the playful romance and the community-driven efforts to preserve the bay, makes for an engaging read.
Readers will find themselves invested in Floss’s journey to self-discovery and happiness, rooting for her as she tackles her business and personal challenges.
Food lovers will be particularly delighted by the creative pudding ideas that Floss dreams up for the café, with the added bonus of recipes included at the end of the book.
Linfoot’s attention to detail in describing these desserts makes them tempting enough to try at home.
The Cornish Beach Hut Café is a feel-good, cosy read brimming with community spirit, friendship, and the charm of Cornish life.
It is a story about finding oneself, embracing love, and enjoying life’s sweet moments, both figuratively and literally.
With a good mix of romance, humour, and relatable life struggles, this novel is perfect for readers looking for an uplifting and deliciously fun escape. Highly recommended!
With thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Jane Linfoot writes escapist contemporary romances that are a complete joy to lose yourself in and she has hit the jackpot with her latest novel, The Cornish Beach Hut Café.
Florence May loved her life in London and she never imagined that she would leave the big city behind to live in a beach hut in her Cornish home town. However, the second she sets foot inside the hut, she realises that there is no other place in the entire world she wants to be. As the weeks go by, Floss realises that moving back to Cornwall was the best choice she has ever made. But there’s a catch: in order to stay in the hut, she must set up a business on site. What is Floss going to do now?
Her friends, however, quickly rally round and Floss opens a surfing outpost of Clemmie’s Little Cornish Kitchen. Pretty soon, business is booming and Floss is flourishing – until the hotel owner next door drops a bombshell that threatens to derail her happiness: he wants to buy her land out from under her. Having finally found somewhere she belongs, Floss is not about to give up without a fight and as her friends and the St Aidan community stand shoulder to shoulder with her to save her land and her business, she wonders whether will manage to keep The Cornish Beach Hut Café going or whether all of her hopes and dreams will be smashed to smithereens…
Jane Linfoot’s The Cornish Beach Hut Café is a feel-good romance that is simply terrific. Witty, warm-hearted and wonderful, this uplifting tale sparkles with humour, emotion, intensity and charm and is full of characters you cannot help but love, touching romance and a setting so vividly and exquisitely rendered that I wanted to get the first train to Cornwall and St Aidan.
As fantastic as ever, The Cornish Beach Hut Café is another triumph for Jane Linfoot you are not going to be able to resist.
Book Review: The Cornish Beach Hut Café
I recently dove into The Cornish Beach Hut Café by Jane Linfoot, and I couldn’t have asked for a more delightful escape. From the very first page, I was transported to the charming seaside town of St Aidan, where Florence—known as Floss—makes a surprising and heartwarming return to her roots.
Trading the hustle and bustle of London for the cozy comfort of a beach hut was a bold move for Floss, and I loved how the story captured her journey of rediscovery. The setting was painted so vividly that I could almost feel the sea breeze and smell the fresh pastries wafting from her café. It was like stepping into a postcard, complete with colorful characters and a strong sense of community.
Opening a surfside outpost of her friend Clemmie’s Little Cornish Kitchen felt like the perfect opportunity for Floss to blend her culinary talents with her newfound life by the beach. I found her determination to make it work both inspiring and relatable, especially when faced with the challenges of running a small business. Her passion for cooking and connecting with the locals made her journey even more enjoyable to follow.
The plot thickens when a hotel owner threatens her little slice of paradise. This conflict brought a delightful sense of tension to the story, and I loved how it showcased the strength of community. Floss’s friends rallying to support her was a beautiful reminder of the importance of connection and teamwork in overcoming obstacles.
Linfoot's writing is warm and engaging, filled with moments of laughter and tenderness. The friendships and budding romances added depth to the narrative, keeping me invested in each character’s journey. The light-hearted humor sprinkled throughout made for some genuinely laugh-out-loud moments.
Overall, The Cornish Beach Hut Café is a heartwarming read that left me with a smile on my face and a craving for seaside pastries. It’s a perfect blend of romance, friendship, and the beauty of starting anew. I’d highly recommend it to
This is a lovely light summer based romance which is perfect for the beach or a sunlounger. I loved catching up with old friends from previous books as well as meeting new characters although this book can still be read as a standalone. Very enjoyable indeed.
Another delightful read from Jane Linfoot, her books never dissappoint you. Here we are back at St Aidan in Cornwall, what more can we ask for? It has a few familiar characters from her previous reads but it's not one you need to start all of her books with as you can read this as a stand alone too.
The character Floss has recovered from Cancer, and has some other physical problems and relationships are not on her radar but she worries about her life and lack of relationships. This book shows love and friendship from everyone and anyone, she moves from London to Cornwall and everyone is the most amazing sweet beautiful personality to her. This book is full of love...
This was my first read by Jane Linfoot. Being a Cornwall dweller, I am usually drawn to books set in Cornwall, and I do like a nice cosy, light-hearted read from time to time. I have put the blurb below.
What worked well for me:
💕Light hearted and uplifting
🌊The seaside setting with a nod to issues of development affecting locals
🧁The baking theme
👭female protagonists, friendship, and family
🌱A fresh start and recovery
What worked less well for me:
🕐The first person present tense pov (personal preference)
📇The lack of realism around Flossie's business
🏠Beach huts are tiny, and you can't live in them!
I found the book to be an easy, comforting read, just right for a very busy period in my life. There was a good mix of reassuring predictability and a few surprises.
Beach read. Conveniently it is also set at a beach.
Florence May is in need of a change after recovering from cancer and the end of her long term relationship. She buys the beach hut from an old friend of her mum. Due to rezoning because of a new hotel nearby, it’s only allowed to live in the hut if there is a business in the hut.
Florence’ friends set her up as an annex of the Little Cornish Kitchen. Reluctantly Florence serves breakfast desert to her first customers. Despite the prices Florence charges the customers keep coming back. And there’s that pesky attraction to her next door neighbour.
All Florence really wanted was some solitude.
Enjoyable.
The are plenty of familiar faces in this return to the community of St Aidan but you can easily read it as a standalone. This story centres around Florence May, the younger sister of Sophie who is returning to St Aiden from her life in London. Following a traumatic time, she is returning to the familiar and it takes time to adjust to her new life. Living right on the beach, Floss as she is known by her friends finds family and friends waiting to help her settle in. Her little beach hut sounds idyllic but she soon discovers that not everything is as idyllic as it seems on the surface, for her and for others.
Floss's young niece and her teenager friends provide plenty of fun in the story. Relationships with her sister and mother are a little bit tricky at times but genuine affection is always there. Reading this romcom felt so familiar and easy, full of the familiar but with some interesting new characters and situations. There is plenty to smile at in this peach of a book.
In short: a gorgeous Cornish confection
This just didn’t grab me too much talk of shops and competition between them. It is part of a series so as a stand alone that may factor in how I found it.
Lovely setting, lovely characters! Perfect read for summertime. Loved it = hope Ms. Linfoot writes more like this.
Certainly a summer read for a little fun and romance. Not the most exciting, a little to full of fluff and drawn out, but the characters were engaging and believable.
Perfect holiday escapism
This lovely feel-good novel by Jane Lynfoot takes us to the cosy small Cornish town of St Aiden where Londoner Florence May falls in love with a beach hut she‘s inherited. She opens it as an outpost to her friend Clemmie‘s Little Cornish Kitchen and soon makes lots of new friends with whom she implements several successful small businesses and gets active in the community…
(This review is based on a review copy from the publisher)
First things first: a cosy Cornish romance differs from a cosy Cornish murder mystery in large part by replacing the murderer with a property developer and those two literary devices being interchangeable a quarter of the way into the twenty-first century speaks volumes about Cornish and English culture and where we are all headed. The property developer is seen mostly at a distance and serves to present the more central characters with an ill-defined but looming threat which gets them all (mostly) working together for the common weal. This is all seen through the eyes of one Florence May, who is trying to build a new life after health issues have brought an end to her most important relationship, her hopes of a family and even her ability to voice “audible” books for a living. In the love and hope of her friends, she overcomes all of these issues through a series of hilarious accidents which teach her to accept that she deserves a new life and that others are perfectly willing to share her worst moments as well as her best.
There’s quite a lot of baking, too, and the recipes are all at the back of the book.
Another fabulous book in the series, and don't worry if you have not read any of the books yet as they can be read as stand-alone.
When Florence, aka Floss, comes back to the Cornish village of St Aiden she is hoping for a spot of peace and quiet. The Beach Hut is going to provide her with that, unfortunately when she moves in she discovers that to be there she has to have a business. Luckily for her, she has wonderful and amazing friends and they all pile in to help where they can for Floss to remain in the Beach Hut.
Further along, the beach is another newcomer, it just so happens that she knows him. I won't spoil how it is she knows him, but I will say that has nothing to do with them being in a relationship!
The author brings back some favourite characters, there are some new additions, one makes an appearance at the beginning of the book and another further on. This reminds Floss of what she is not able to have and the battles she has been through.
She is tough and she has been through some challenges, but she is not alone, she has her sister and her Mum, but, well they are not all on the same page. Add to that, an opinionated teen, a dog, a spot of swimming and starting a new business, well there is enough to keep Floss on her toes.
The author has brought in some serious themes to the story, one of which is something that the author knows of. I didn't realise this when I read the book, but there were things in the story that felt personal and it made sense when I read the Authors Notes.
As well as squabbling families there are some serious moments for Floss and her new neighbour to sort out. Plans to develop the bay, sort out new recipes and get plans in place to save a local feature are all part of this story. The main focus, well one of the main ones is the Beach Hut Cafe. Floss has her unique twist on what makes a pudding and now I have read this book I can see myself having a go at some of the ideas. Luckily there is a recipe section at the end of the book to help with that.
This is a gorgeous book that flows well, the sense of community and friendship is strong as are the tempting delicious puddings and bakes. The story is about finding your own self and working out how to be happy in your own skin. There is romance and humour and a certain amount of flirting which all works well within the pages of the book. Fabulous story and one I would definitely recommend.

Feel good book, with friendship, love and laughter. A new beginning that was supposed to be a quiet haven was anything but. I could imagine myself in the fictional coastal St Adens. Great summer read.
I’ve not read any books by this author before but I will definitely read more. I loved reading about life in St Aiden and would love to have a friendship group like that. I enjoyed the bang to the start of the story and whilst it was a predictable read it was super enjoyable too
