Grief is something no one wants to discuss and yet it impacts our everyday lives. Natasha Mikles takes us on a journey of many different people, in many different places and circumstances, and yet have one thing in common. Grief, and grief that has not been channeled into a path moving forward. During COVID, our traditional ways of dealing with grief have been altered, and the impacts are long lasting. While some of the stories I could really resonate with, others I couldn't, but, that doesn't mean their loss or path was in any way less than the ones I could resonate with. It's their stories, and this was a good collection point of helping them be heard, as she states later in the book, she had followed up with them and to see and hear where they ended up was also enlightnening. My only point of contention is that she even brings in the story of Job, and incorrectly states that he lost his wife, in addition to losing his children and his property. The wife lived. Otherwise, this book really gives an honest look at how people coped with their loss during a really hard time of isolation, and their stories matter. Worth reading. Worth sharing. I'm so sorry for your loss.
*I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. This review is my own opinion*
Shattered Grief was a harrowing book that highlights the death rites of the USA and how we handle death overall, especially in the face of mass death during the COVID-19 pandemic. It's one of those books that makes you reevaluate your own beliefs, and I think it was a great read.
