"It's a Mums Life" is a book about a group of parents that all join the same website for chatting and advice about parenting. They don't know each other outside of the online world and their alias' but that soon changes!
This book reeled me in hook, line and sinker and had me turning pages faster than normally. I didn't think I would like it as much as I did as I usually prefer serious and dramatic books but this book did not disappoint. The chapters alternate between each parent, giving you a deep dive into each parents life/situation, which gives you a lot of drama and storylines and then they all intertwine to make an all round great read!
As I delved into the pages of "It's a Mum's Life," I found myself drawn into the intertwined narratives of Caroline, Susan, Mark, and Lisa. Initially seeking solace and advice in the anonymity of an online forum, these characters grapple with the complexities of family life, each facing their own unique challenges. What struck me most profoundly was the author's ability to humanize these individuals, transcending the superficial judgments often prevalent in online interactions. As their paths unexpectedly converge, the story unfolds with a poignant exploration of the universal struggles inherent in parenting and relationships.
Through the lens of Caroline, Susan, Mark, and Lisa, the author skillfully constructs a timeline of life's trials and tribulations, capturing the essence of various stages of parenthood. Their individual stories, while distinct, resonate with a raw authenticity that effortlessly draws the reader in. I found myself nodding in recognition, empathizing with their joys and sorrows alike.
The narrative unfolds with a refreshing ease, making it a compelling and relatable read for any parent. The characters leap off the page, their vulnerabilities laid bare in a manner that feels both genuine and poignant. "It's a Mum's Life" is more than just a story; it's a reflection of the human experience, reminding us of the power of empathy and connection in navigating life's challenges.
I would like to express my gratitude to Embla Books and NetGalley for allowing me to read this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I found the back/forth of the multiple main characters rather confusing (annoying) to keep up with. Chapter after chapter of complaints about life/parenting. As parents, we can all relate to some degree but reading a book that implies parenthood is difficult and unrewarding is not something I would recommend to anyone.
The was no character depth, humor or any real substance to the “plot”…just everyday life for many people.
Another fantastically accurate representation of family life, no matter what your family set up looks like!
Family life can be the most joyous wonderful experience but real life events have a habit of rearing their ugly heads, nowadays we are fortunate to have social media forums for advice, ideas, support and friendship although it can also have a detrimental effect too!
Four strangers log onto what mums know an email forum and in doing so hope to find friendship and advice, they get a lot more than they bargained for as their lives become intertwined!
A great read that I thoroughly enjoyed and would highly recommend
Thank you NetGalley for this early read.
It's a Mum's Life by Sophie King is endearing in its raw honesty. While there is a wry wit here and there, the main vein is a truthful account just as the title suggests
The writing flow is good, and even though I am not a parent, I found myself commiserating and empathising with the families. A relatable read for many parents I am sure
Thank you to Netgalley, Embla Books and Sophie King for this fantastic ARC. My review is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own

The idea of the book sounded so great. And based on the cover of the book (yes, I know… don’t judge a book by its cover!), as well as the synopsis… I expected this book to be funny and light? It wasn’t either of these things, so not what I was expecting. It was much darker and heavier than expected.
Despite being a mom of 3, I didn’t connect with any of the characters, nor did I particularly like any of the characters. This lead to me really having a hard time getting swept away in the stories.
The idea is cute- but this one unfortunately wasn’t for me.
⭐️⭐️ from me.
I have never read a book by Sophie King before but i enjoyed the story. I could really emphasise with some of the issues being a mother of 3. It had some funny moments but was also a lot darker than I was expecting.
Thanks to NetGalley , Sophie King and Embla Bookke for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
It's a Mum's Life follows the lives of 4 parents (3 mom's and a dad). Each of these parents consult an email forum "What Mums Know" each day to connect with others. Their lives are roller coasters that center around their parenting challenges. I did not connect with the characters as I would have hoped. I was hoping for a funny light read but it was heavier than expected.
Thank you Net Galley, Sophie King and Embla Books for the opportunity to preview this novel and all opinions shared are my own.

As moms, we’ve all had that moment where, thanks to the worries and the pressures of the day, we can’t sleep. Searching for a band-aid we scroll the internet until we find a solution or at the very least, a distraction. Caroline, Susan, Mark, and Lisa find themselves doing just that and land on What Mums Know, an anonymous email forum. The opportunity to connect with others and admit their faults but remain unknown is tempting and fills them with hope for the year to come. But, as always, life is a roller coaster and nothing is ever simple. This is a UK book so words and phrases may be somewhat unfamiliar to American readers; however, the struggles of parenthood are universal and easily relatable to all parents.
Such a great relatable book on all things motherhood. I could stop laughing, crying, or relating and I’m not even a mom yet! Highly recommend
