Another absolute banger from Bex Hogan. I read this (partly aloud) during a really difficult few days and it got a few eye rolls from my very poorly Nana at some of the jokes (or at me sniggering childishly at them)!
I adore Bronte and loved getting to see some of my faves back again; I have such a soft spot for Lord Erol.
I really enjoyed Brontë trying to navigate this latest challenge whilst all the boys around her were trying to dress and look just like their role models, Sir Ripple and Sir Mallow. I love how Bex flips the traditional gendered stereotypes and it's the male knights trying to look pretty whilst Brontë is trying to get things done.
Another brilliant read. I am really looking forward to sharing these with my niece.
This is a great chapter book series and I loved being back in Bronte's world with Bex Hogan's fabulous and fully imagined world-building. There were some great new characters - the new teachers were particularly funny - and an exciting plot which feels like it might continue in the next book. A knight school packed with adventure, mayhem, cute and funny animals and a likable heroine - what's not to like.
This was super cute, I really like Bronte as a character and her determination and kindness is so sweet. I liked the storyline in this one and how it hints at further books too.
Another superb adventure for Brontë from the ever excellent Bex. With fabulous new characters such as Nix and Humphrey to returning favourites like Sir Errol and Lady Fennel, the ice warriors is a gripping, glorious, giggle inducing romp for children of all ages, including this 33 year old teacher! Bex deftly handles hero worship, bullying, loyalty vs. doing the right thing, when friends let you down, and when heroes let you down, and keeps the story buzzing along at breakneck pace.
I can’t wait to see where the next book goes with the breadcrumbs that have been artfully trailed! Definitely a series I’ll be handing to my god children!
I absolutely love anything that Bex writes. She's such a phenomenal writer and is my number one auto-buy author. I adored the first Bronte Tempestra book and was super eager to watch Bronte grow and go one more amazing and fun-filled adventures!
I loved this one so much and whilst the weird weather was a problem for them I would absolutely kill for some snow right now! I also loved the new characters that were introduced in this one, especially Nix and it was so nice having another female student to help Bronte out while all the boys are idolising one of the new teachers!
Honestly these are the perfect middle grade books and such a quick and enjoyable read! I cannot wait for more adventures with Bronte and her friends!
Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Engaging adventure with the return of this intrepid female character, and a fun supporting cast. The quest elements are perfectly pitched for target age group with just the right amount of peril.
Our favourite Storm Princess is back. With the Lightning Steeds dealt with and Ackley defeated, she can sit back and relax, well if studying for exams can be called relaxing! She has to pass or she will be sent back to POOP (Palace for Obedient & Outstanding Princesses). Her favourite teacher, Lady Fennel, is away in the forest on secondment, demonstering creatures but Ellie is coming to visit soon so she won’t be the only girl on campus.
The new headmaster, Sir Calliphus, has sworn Bronte to secrecy about the events of the past few months and so nobody has a clue how awesome she is. When Sir Montford Mallow, celebrity cover model for Knights Weekly, turns up to teach them all, everyone seems to be under his spell, even Tonkins. Thankfully, Nix, a new girl from FART (First Academy of Royal Trades) turns up in the treehouse and she and Bronte become firm friends. Sir Mallow seems to have it in for Blue, and when the school falls under the spell of an eternal snowstorm, Blue gets blamed and a petition is started to get rid of him. Bronte is devastated when Tonkins allows himself to be pressured by Mallow’s fan club into betraying her and signing.
Determined to get to the bottom of things (and prove Blue’s innocence), Bronte asks an old friend for advice. “Last time you wouldn’t stop asking endless questions and stuck your nose in everywhere it wasn’t wanted. May I suggest repeating such a strategy.” When she suspects that the Ice Thistle has fallen into the wrong hands and Ackley’s brothers may still be at large, she must head into the secret tunnel network and save the Kingdom. But is all as it seems? Is Ackley still at large or is there a different Weather Witch to be worried about? Can she rescue things before it is too late?
Green Gravy! We absolutely love Bronte Tempestra. In a school packed to the rafters with male egos, it takes a healthy dose of girl power to get things done! She flips gender stereotypes on their heads, gives our Book Clubbers age 7-10 an exciting (yet non-threatening) adventure to enjoy and a mystery to solve too. With themes of friendship, peer pressure, forgiveness and not taking people at face value, this rip roaring second book in the series has left us hungry for more. If the third book is as good as this one, well, it will be just ‘breezy’!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bonnier Books for sending this eBook for review consideration. All opinions are our own.
I love Brontë! She’s so brave and so smart! When things start to go wrong, and knights are more bothered about looking good than doing good, it’s down to Brontë (again) to save the day! Some familiar faces, some new villains and some new friends are here too!
BRONTE TEMPESTRA AND THE ICE WARRIORS returns us to the world of knight school and magical creatures for another amusing adventure, this time knee-deep in snow.
Snow descends on the school but nowhere else. Is someone trying to attack the school again, even though the last villain was banished? Unfortunately for Bronte, a new celebrity teacher is distracting her friends and embroiling another teacher in a one-upmanship contest to see who's the better knight so Bronte will have to show them both that it's her by solving the issue on her own.
But Bronte has a new friend to help her, Nix, an armourer's daughter who thinks she might prefer to wear than make armour. I loved getting another female student at the school, giving Bronte someone else in her shoes (and someone sensible to talk to given most of the other, all male students, are being ridiculous over the celebrity teacher!) I'm glad Nix will likely return for later books!
Tonkins, Bronte's friend from the last book, is one of those agog over the new teacher. It's a cautionary tale of not focusing on a celebrity or a single person to the detriment of others as he hurts Bronte by ignoring her and even acting against her to stay on with the fanclub.
I enjoyed how magical the snowy situation was. While it is problematic, lots of fun is derived from it. The final battle uses this wintry setting to great effect, balancing the joy of winter with the threat of the villains.
