On Family by The School of Life looks at what different aspects of the experience of family has meant or means to different people using interviews and photographs. It also provides questions so that the reader can explore their own feelings in a similar way. It is quite a short book and can be read in one sitting then returned to as desired. I enjoyed reading the interviewees different experiences which certainly made me think about my own experiences and relationships.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy. All opinions are my own.
All families are different and I'm glad that The School of Life embraces all of them. We might have a conflict with one of the family members (mom/ dad/ even sibling), not excluding extended family which often brings chaos into the family.
My favorite part is 'the questions for self-exploration,' which helps me realize what topics tick me and need to work on.
Thank you The School of Life and Net Galley for providing the ARC ebook. Loving this series so far!
The idea of this book is awesome. Every photograph helps me to understand and resonate more with the stories. They all so honest in expressing their feeling toward their own family, which means it is not always sunshine and rainbow. But sometimes it is storm and thunder.
The book is not only about people who share their stories, but also ask us about our family. The reflective questions could help reader to be more aware with their own condition and family.
Despite the both heartwarming and difficult topic, this book is reader friendly and can be finished in one sit, It starts off with introductions/essays on why and how families matter and their impact on us. The rest of the book offers short accountings by various people who talk about their families - their lived experiences. These brief stories contain a diverse range of familiar and unfamiliar but familial situations. Each chapter ends with the immensely useful questions that can be used for self-discovery. Easy-to-follow, does not need to be read in order, and a bit of a beginner’s therapy book. Like all other The School of Life books, it is relevant, modern and insightful. I would have liked to read a longer and more detailed book, but besides, this was amazing.
