I genuinely love this author - both as an author and as a person - so it pains me to say I DNF'd this book. A story based on lies is never going to stand out for me, and the immaturity of these supposed adult characters was just too much.
The DM Diaries from Teagan Hunter was a quick, fun read with great banter. I really enjoyed the book.
I do love how Teagan Hunter can always make me laugh out loud while reading. The playful banter was my favorite part. I know she.has become popular with her hockey romance books, but I've been reading her for years and it was fun to see her write outside of hockey again. It took me back to her Testing series when the DMs and the in person meetings!
A cookie-cutter read of heartfelt, confident heroine (sexy plus size model) and earnest nepo-baby actor (off-the-charts attractive) trade cockiness and eye hearts in spades. If you like the trope of good-looking, privileged young people easily falling in love with HEA, this ticks the box, but is in no way elevating the genre.
I loved the first 50%. There was mystery and mistaken identity, and so much messaging. The tingles were so great. But around 60% when the MCs get together it fell off for me. They were cute but it was only so-so.
This book would have gained a whole star from me if the MCs had been in their 30s instead of 25.
Around 70% I started to drag my feet. I personally felt the third act drama was good but the reconciliation was too quick and close to the end of the book. There is an HEA but we see NONE of it.
Thank you NetGalley and Montlake for an ARC of this book.
What I liked best about this book were the well-rounded characters. I've always liked it when authors combine the familiar trope of a mistaken identity or secret identity with an unique virtual message, pen pal, or text message mix-up, so when I spotted Teagan Hunter's The DM Diaries, I knew I had to give it a shot! I really enjoyed Jude and Olive's interactions in their DMs, which were full of witty quips and the ease of two people who truly understood each other. Overall, I thought the book was pretty entertaining. There was a lot of drama, but I would expect no less from a relationship with celebs and influencers!
I had so much fun reading this book. We have a curvy FMC who owns her curves and the sweetest cinnamon roll hero. I love the support both of these characters had. It was just all around a great read.
I really enjoyed this story. The banter between the two main characters and the meet cute were perfect.i also really loved the the MFC was plus size. I feel like we don’t get much representation in romance novels so it was really refreshing
loved this romance and her mom wants her to date this guy she has these amazing friends who are all dealing with different relationship issues . loved that she found her way in the job and found love
I really enjoyed Olive and Jude's story and chemistry, I think it's a bit predictable the ending, but in general I like reading this story.
This is my first time reading the author but won't be the last.
Was this my favorite book by Teagan Hunter? No, but I still really enjoyed it. Jude and Olive were sweet characters, and their chemistry was palpable. I liked how the mistaken/hidden identity aspect of this story played out and that it wasn't this super drawn-out thing taking up a huge part of the story. I liked how their relationship developed, and I appreciated how they came back together in the end. Jude's grand gesture was honestly so perfect for this story.
I understand why people want this book to turn into a series, as I am very curious about Jasper's story, but I also really appreciate this being a true standalone, where we get to decide for ourselves what happens with everyone else after the story ends.
I'm still very much a fan of Teagan Hunter, and I will definitely be reading whatever she comes out with next.
✔️ Hidden/Mistaken Identity
✔️ Celebrity
✔️ Pen Pal
✔️ He Takes Care of Her
✔️ First Person Dual POV
I really enjoyed it! I gave it 4 stars and would definitely recommend. I loved the banter between the characters, the idea of the meet cute, and the plus size representation's. As a plus sized woman, I love seeing plus size women portrayed in books.
I just finished reading The DM Diaries, and I have to say, it's a delightful rom-com that kept me entertained from start to finish. The story follows the journey of a young woman who falls for a charming guy, but their paths keep crossing in unexpected ways. As I read, I found myself drawn into the narrative, which is engaging and well-balanced with humor, romance, and emotional depth.
One of the things I enjoyed most about this book was the well-developed characters. The protagonist's growth throughout the story was palpable, and I found myself rooting for her. The author's writing style is smooth and easy to follow, making it a pleasure to read. The pacing is well-managed, with a good mix of lighthearted moments and more serious scenes.
What really stood out to me was the author's ability to capture the complexities of modern relationships. Themes like communication, trust, and vulnerability are tackled in a relatable and realistic manner. The dialogue is witty and natural, making the interactions between characters feel authentic.
While I thoroughly enjoyed the story, there were a few areas where I felt it could be improved. Some of the plot twists felt predictable to me, and the ending could have been more satisfying. However, these minor criticisms didn't detract too much from my overall enjoyment of the book.
Overall, The DM Diaries is a fun and heartwarming read that will appeal to fans of contemporary romance. If you're looking for a lighthearted escape with a dash of emotional depth, I'd definitely recommend giving this book a try. It's an easy, enjoyable read that will leave you feeling good.
I recently read all of Teagan Hunters Carolina Comets series where the discreet covers have beautiful rainbow-coloured spines so when I requested DM Diaries, I was excited to see what another one of her books would be like.
This book focuses on Olive O’Brien, a hardworking plus size model determined to stand by her eco and body conscious message to others.
Jude Rafferty is an actor, coming from a hugely famous family and he’s trying to be taken seriously and not just known for his infamous role in a teen show when he was younger. His brother Jasper, an equally famous sibling in his own right is plastered all over social media and this is where Olive’s path crosses with the Rafferty’s. Olive has been using Jasper’s DM’s as a private diary for well over a year knowing he hasn’t read them but when Jude takes over his brother’s social media he ends up finding the diary entries and is immediately fascinated by this woman.
One thing I enjoyed with this book is that the mystery catfish scenario was revealed early on and didn’t linger until the 80% mark like some books do. It was a fun and entertaining read once again from Teagan Hunter. I hope we see a book for Jasper because he definitely comes across as a player. The characters were interesting and the plot wasn’t over the top. I look forward to any further releases from Hunter!
Thank you for the eARC!
I love everything Teagan writes. This was no exception. The DM Diaries was cute and fun. I just loved Jude and Olive!
Thank you NetGalley and Montlake for an ARC of this book.
This book reminded me of a novella I read last about a mistaken identity. Coincidentally the novella also featured two brothers who are famous for something and a plus size FMC. I loved the idea, the book failed to capture me. I saw it had great reviews and maybe I'll re read it in the future and find it better. But at this time it just wasn't for me. This is the first book I've read from this author but it wont be my last as I own a copy of another book thats on my physical TBR.
I’ve always enjoyed it when a writer mixes the mistaken identity/secret identity trope with a good virtual message/pen pal/text message mix-up so when I saw The DM Diaries by Teagan Hunter, I knew I had to try it!
Olive is a social media influencer and plus-size model who inadvertently makes a habit of using celebrity, Jasper Rafferty’s, DMs as her personal journal through grief and life. After all, the “read” notifications have never turned on! Giving Olive a sense of security that Jasper never checks his DMs she continues to write her journal entries. However, when Jasper’s brother, Jude (also a celebrity), makes a major social faux pas, he is tasked with managing his brother’s social media (likely as a training of how he “should be” portraying himself). Now, all of Olive’s entries have been revealed…to Jude. Hooked by the candor, humor, and joy she has poured into the memories of each journal entry, “Jasper” responds to Olive and sets off a pen pal like relationship. As their trust and friendship builds, how is Jude going to reveal the truth! And, what if the truth is more than meets the eye?
This was a quick and easy, sweet read with some spice. Ironically, my favorite part of a mistaken text/DM romance is the honesty that flows from the anonymity of the circumstances. Therefore, I really enjoyed the conversations between Jude and Olive through their DMs that were filled with fun quips and an ease of two people who truly got each other. However, this story had an added twist of a parallel relationship between the MCs outside the DM realm that was also interesting to watch play out. There was quite a bit of drama but I would expect nothing less from a romance that includes celebrities and influencers and overall, I found this book quite fun!
Sunshine & Asshat!! Well, Sunshine (what Jude has nicknamed Olive) isn't all that sunny when she meets Jude (aka Asshat) at the local coffee truck. I would call him an Asshat if he cut in front of me in the long line to my much needed caffeine fix too! Especially when he flashes that gorgeous smirk. Ugh!
Actor Jude Rafferty (of the legendary award-winning Rafferty family of actors) is trying to make his return to acting after college. Olive is an up and coming plus size model making her way up the Instagram influencer ranks. Their careers are adjacent, not overlapping so neither knows the other.
A series of misfortunate events that include
-Olive DM'ing Jude's brother, a very A-list actor, Jasper's Insta account in a diary/journal sort of way knowing no one will most likely ever see it
- Jude having a disastrous live interview promoting his new movie which resulted in ripped pants and Snoopy underwear,
- Jude being made to monitor Jasper’s IG account to drop photos of the two brother's hanging out so Jude can get more exposure
- Jude messaging Olive and striking up a relationship through Instagram while pretending to be his brother
- a major blow up when identities are discovered
-...and more!
This is a current day "You've Got Mail" of sorts (which was a 90s version of The Shop Around the Corner, of sorts).
I loved this book so SO much! Olive and Jude are incredibly great characters that you definitely want to root for! You want them together, you want them to be successful, you want it all for them! This book is funny, sweet, witty, snarky, and a lot of fun to read! I would expect nothing less from Teagan Hunter. I have read many of her books and she hasn't ever let me down!
I still have all the giddy feels even long after putting the book down!!
(I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley)
The DM Diaries was a fantastic rom com that made me laugh out loud numerous times and when I wasn't laughing, I had one of these smiles on my face - you know, the goofy heart eyes looking one
Obviously I loved them moments between the MC's Jude and Olive, but some of my favourites were those between the Rafferty siblings
It read like a nostalgic rom com from the early 00's, I got the subtle reference to 27 Dresses Teagan! It just had that feel-good feeling whilst reading that those movies would give me back in the day - movie execs, offer Teagan a movie deal for this one!
I loved the Glove Save (from her Carolina Comets series) reference too!
All in all a super fun read, that I highly recommend!
Rating: 3.75/5
Thank you to Montlake and Netgalley for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
If she writes it, I will indeed read it! and overall, I really liked this one!
What I did enjoy: family/sibling relationships, nyc settling and the coffee truck. Olivia's journey as a fashion influencer/model. great banter and text chains. amazing plus size rep. I was routing for this couple to work!
Here's what I didn't love: the whole third act break up x2...and generally the whole DM situation9/who am I really talking to thing. I am generally not into the whole catfishing thing and it gave those vibes for a bit. The pacing was a tad off for my liking.
Do I think this was her best book/the new one I am raving about? No, but I adore Teagan and I can't wait to see what she gives us next!
