I'd not read anything by this author before so was looking forward to delving in,I found it a good page turner and it was hard to know who to trust let alone believe as there were so many secrets to unravel and so much going on in one cul-de-sac The story is told from different points of view and filled with twists galore with an ending that really did surprise. It definitely made me want to carry on reading even when sleep was calling.
I'll definitely be reading more by this author.
Recommended.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.
This is the first time I've ever run across a book that had too many twists for me. Don't get me wrong, some of them were fun to try and figure out, and I enjoyed deciphering what was a red herring and what was an actual clue. That said, there ended up being so many twists, and so many people were lying, that I sort of felt like I didn't like anyone at the end.
Overall, it kept me reading, and I finished it in a day. If Frieda McFadden writing a combination of Desperate Housewives and Gone Girl sounds good to you, I'd recommend you pick this up.
I'd give it a 3.5, rounding down to 3 because I just can't see it as a 4.
This thriller hooked me from the first page. The characters were complex and interesting. The clues kept coming yet I still was not sure what in the world was happening. It gave me creepy vibes which I love! As the secrets were untangled I was mind blown. I loved the story and the author made the rest of the world melt away. I highly recommend this book and will give the author's other books a read
I was able to read the arc through NetGalley approciate it so much to have this opportunity.
This book was filled with twists and turns. I was not expecting that ending.
I would definitely recommend
This was my first book by this author. I am an avid thriller reader, and this book held my attention as well as most others in this genre. There were some transitions that felt a little rough/disconnected, and some “twists” I had figured out early on, but the big twist I did not see coming. Overall, a good read, and I would recommend it to fans of this genre.
I received the opportunity to do an advanced reading of this story thanks to NetGalley. I’m so glad to have had this chance because this book was a wild ride.
My first thoughts, while reading the prologue were as follows… paragraph 1 - hooked, interested, excited… paragraph 2 - lost, felt like we’d jumped and missed a bunch of vital info, felt like this should be in the book, but way later… except the chunk from “Tingles” onward, that was still fitting for the prologue - IMO.
During many other parts of the book, I found myself often confused and truly unable to figure it out before the book revealed it. I also did not discover who the Watcher was until the author released that info. For this, I’m super grateful - as rarely am I ever truly surprised by twists and endings. But this book was twisting left and right and the ending just came from nowhere for me. I’m the end, everything was written so perfectly and was cleaned up to a nice lovely ending.
I really enjoyed this book, and am eager to check out others from this author now.
There were so many twists and turns in this book that I did not see coming and a few that I did. It is a great page turner making you need to know what is going to be found out next. The book is really good about showing how many people contain secrets that they don't want others to find out and how many different people can be victims in a neighborhood and no one can tell past their perfectly crafted lies. That ending left me shocked and made me want just a little more of their stories after everything went down.
Anna is swept off her feet by the handsome and charismatic Cary. In a whirlwind romance, they quickly move in together. Cary has a infant daughter and she bonds with Anna almost immediately. Cary’s wife Presley has gone missing and presumed dead. In a tight knit community, Anna has challenges fitting in, but she does her best.
Then strange things start to happen, and Cary isn’t the man that Anna fell in love with. And Anna finds Presley’s journal.
Oh, I could not turn the pages fast enough. And just when you think you got it figure you realize that everyone is keeping secrets! So good.
It starts off a bit slow, but stick with it – it’s totally worth it!
This had so many twists and turns that I had to keep making sure I was reading everything correctly. So much going on here that you just can’t put it down and when you think you have it figured out it just keeps going.
When Anna gets involved with Cary and his gorgeous little girl Harper, she is shocked to find out that his wife Presley disappeared under strange circumstances. To make matters worse there is a room in their house that she is expressly instructed not to go into. Shades of Bluebeard, or what...!
To make matters worse, Presley's mother Juliet is less than welcoming. But Anna is totally in love with the baby, and is determined to make a place for herself in Cary's home. Still, in this wealthy, snobbish neighbourhood, it is easier said than done for Anna to find a way of fitting in.
There are plenty of secrets in this story, and quite a few unexpected twists as well. I really wanted to like it more, but it was way too long and more than a little bit far-fetched for me. I may well be the outlier in this regard, and I have no doubt that the book will find its fans.
I have lived in a cul-de-sac many years ago, but as an avid mystery book reader I don't think I could ever do that again. It is simply something about these close knit suburban communities... Everyone has secrets and there are so many different vibes between people and groups of people. Then when crime and murder is inserted into it all, I would just like to tell them all to move, and to some of them simply "run for your life, and do not turn back".
I like the story, and believe me, it has a lot of twists and turns. I found it hard to like a single one of the people in the book. It would be torture living with these people in the same community, but they are the ones that make this a good read. The beginning was a bit too slow moving, but after that things started unfolding. There is so much happening at the end that it nearly took my breath away.
This was my first book by this author and I’m so glad I had the chance to read it. The plot was very interesting and left you wondering what was going to happen next. Throughout the book I thought I had an idea of what was happening and was pretending to be a detective. But boy was I wrong at the end. There were so many twists and turns throughout the book and the suprise twist ending was great. Thank you so much NetGalley and Ruhi Choudhary for allowing me the chance to read and share my thoughts!
His Last Wife by Ruhi Choudhary is my first book by this author. This was such a good book! It was full of twists and turns. I couldn’t put it down because I just wanted answers to the different questions I had throughout the book. I will be reading other books by this author! Thank you NetGalley and Ruhi Choudhary for this review copy in return for my honest review!
Absolutely amazing! This gave me everything I'd want from a domestic noir. The characters were well written andvivdly brought to life. The suspense is built perfectly throughout the book and I had absolutely no idea who to believe or what was going on until.... well u til the very end really. Imevery time you think you've got is sussed..... bang! Another twists. I loved the addition of the "watcher" chapters and the unease they cause whilst not knowing who they are. Loved, loved, loved
A good escapism thriller. Suspend disbelief necessary. I'll try this author's standalone work again, even though I haven't finished one of her PP books after the first.
This seems to follow a usual story line for this genre and it was feeling all too familiar to start off with. I was still engaged but worried where it would go. It differentiated itself eventually and I was certainly surprised by the final twists. It was done well, IMO.
Would recommend to thriller readers who want a fun and basic escapism read, provided they don't mind suspending disbelief.

Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for my eARC in exchange for my honest review.
What an intense ride! I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. MC Anna finally has the perfect life. She married a wonderful man and became a stepmom to his equally wonderful daughter. Her mother went missing a few years before never to be heard from again. When Anna overhears some neighbors talking about her disappearance, it doesn't match the story told by her husband. Anna starts her own investigation into what happened and uncovers even more secrets.
This was my first book by this author and I was not disappointed! They do such a good job at making feel so many emotions while you’re reading. The plot was so interesting. There were so many pieces to the story that left you wondering how they were going to fit together. But by the end of the book, it gets wrapped up very nicely. It wasn’t the craziest book I’ve read, but it kept my interest and by the end of each chapter it left me wondering what was going to happen next!
Thank you to Ruhi Choudhary, Bookouture, and NetGalley for an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest opinion.
“Do not go in there, Anna. Never go in there.” The words ring in my head as I pick the lock to the only room in the house that the man I love tells me I’m not allowed to enter. Trembling as I step inside, I’m about to finally find out what happened to his last wife…
Everyone thinks my life is bliss. The love of my life, Cary, and I live in our dream home and we have a beautiful little girl, Harper. But there’s one thing we never talk about…
Cary’s wife before me, Presley, was perfect in every way. But she went missing a long time ago. Cary was distraught when he told me how she was abducted from her car, leaving behind a pool of blood. No one saw a thing.
The neighbors are always gossiping about Presley. I try to ignore them, but one day I hear something that makes my stomach flip. Presley was abducted from her home. The home I now live in. Cary lied to me about the car. But why?
As I search our beautiful home for answers, I stumble across Presley’s diary. My heart thunders in my chest as I discover the truth: Cary had something to do with his wife’s disappearance. And I’m terrified I might be next.
But Cary doesn’t know that I have a secret too. He doesn’t know how far I’ve gone to get this perfect life, and how much further I’ll go to keep it…
We all long for that "happily ever after story". Picture yourself finding your dream partner. They check all of your prerequisites and more and you instantly fall in love with his beautiful baby girl. But at some point you realize his previous wife is missing and suspected to be dead. If you watch enough of 20/20 and Investigation Discovery like I do, you immediately think the husband is suspect! How well do you really know who's living in your house and who you're sleeping next to?! Who really is Cary and what happened in his past?
I enjoyed the multiple points of view and this book is not short on twists and unpredictable turns. I liked Choudhary's writing style and character development. I put myself in Anna's place and thought about what exactly would I do if I was in her situation. This is really fun and exciting read and you should definitely pick it up when it releases on April 25, 2024.
This is my first novel by Ruhi Choudhary. This novel has a content warning at the beginning. The story flowed well. Kept me intrigued throughout. The ending was tied up nicely. However, towards the end, I was disappointed in the direction this story went. Overall it's a decent read.
Not particularly original and some subplots were predictable but the watcher was intriguing and the ending was a surprise.
