The Suite Life was a very amusing book. It follows Gigi, a young woman unlucky in love, as she heads to Hawaii for the wedding of her sister. As a complete singleton. Unfortunately, she has told her family that she is taking someone so she has to scramble to find a date.
Thanks to a mix up at the hotel, she ends up in a luxury suite, living the high life and she meets a handsome man who agrees to be her wingman to help find her a date. We all know how that story will end.
I found The Suite Life to be a very funny read. Gigi manages to get herself into these awkward situations and it is hilarious to read her get into and out of these situations. Donnie makes for a good love interest. He’s sweet and likeable and I very much enjoyed the growth of the relationship over the course of the book.
I also found the relationships between Gigi and her family to be entertaining. I liked the closeness she has with her sister and the antagonistic relationship she has with her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend was resolved in a really nice way.
I had a great time reading The Suite Life. I adore the rom-com style of MacIntosh’s novels and they always manage to make me laugh a lot. This book was a lot of fun and I thought the romantic pairing was a very good one.
Portia is always a fun time! Her books just scream...SUMMER IS ALMOST HERE! And I look forward to them every single year.
The Suite LIfe was a fun ride, filled with great characters, sizzling banter and romance that was swoon worthy.
Gigi’s sister is getting married in Hawaii and naturally Gigi is the maid of honor. The only kink in the plan is the Gigi doesn’t have a date to the wedding and what’s worse is that Gigi’s ex is going to be the best man, and he’s bringing his new girlfriend, a famous influencer/reality star. Gigi is determined to find a plus one that will top that, but it just doesn’t work out so when she turns up at the resort and she is mistaken for someone else and given the most luxurious suite in the place and waited on hand and foot, she decides to tell a little white lie and say it’s because of her secret date! But now she has to find a secret date and fast!
This was super fun and entertaining. I loved the setting and watching Gigi have to go on dates trying to find someone who could pass as a mystery benefactor of her fancy suite and be an acceptable plus one to the wedding. And then of course she meets Donnie, who is sweet and caring and helps her in her quest to find “the one “ when all along he was right there waiting for her.
This was an absolutely entertaining, well written friends to lovers story. Nothing felt rushed or dragged out either. Perfectly paced. Totally enjoyable read.
Thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for this eArc in exchange for my review.
Thank you to NetGalley, Boldwood Books, and Portia MacIntosh for the advanced copy of The Suite Life!
The Suite Life follows Gigi as she tries to find an impressive date for her sister's upcoming destination wedding. With time running short, Gigi meets Donnie at the resort in Hawaii who agrees to help her find a wedding date.
The chemistry between Gigi and the MMC was wonderful. I felt like we got the whole span of friends to lovers within the week that Gigi was at the resort. The story arc was well-timed in the middle third of the book. I did enjoy the conflict of Gigi being in the same wedding as her ex and witnessing their new relationship while she was still single.
Unfortunately, so much time is spent on Gigi finding a date that many of the characters felt underdeveloped. It also took until about 30% through the book for the characters to get to the resort, which I thought was too slow. Conversely, I felt as though the resolutions came too quickly and conveniently towards the end, It seemed as though the author was trying to put as many tropes as possible into one book, which in the end, made it feel a little sloppy.
I received this in exchange for an honest review. I will be buying this - it was a good book and well written.
Vivid, expansive and richly imagined….. An absolutely heartbreaking and unforgettable read, perfect for fans of gripping family dramas, and for those who enjoy great storytelling. Sprinkled with romance.
4.5⭐
Gigi is a celebrity hairdresser who has never felt so low about herself. Her boyfriend dumps her for not having that 'spark' between them anymore and instantly moves on to a gorgeous TV show celebrity, right on time for her sister's wedding. Now, she is dateless and a third wheeler with her paired up friends and family members for the destination holiday wedding in Hawaii. To make things worse, her ex-boyfriend is her future brother-in-law's best friend, so she has to see him and his beautiful new girlfriend throughout the holiday. But Gigi has a plan. If she brings a date much more glamorous than the TV star girlfriend, no one will pity her about the turn of events. However, easier said than done, because one after the other, her celebrity dates seem to go horribly all the time.
It was a fun story that hooked me with the mystery of Gigi's 'gold VIP' treatment at the hotel in Hawaii. She makes a new friend, Denny, a guitarist, who offers to be her wingman in finding a famous date to bring to the wedding. But as time passes, they become close and inseparable - from sharing exotic desserts to enjoying luxury pool services and sharing the big suite.
Although I didn't like Gigi and her friends from the hairdressing salon at the beginning, as they condoned her lying to her dates and misleading them, the story improved once she reached Hawaii. I absolutely hated her ex and his obnoxious behavior. However, it showed Gigi's compassionate nature in how she handled him and his new girlfriend throughout the book.
The mystery of her VIP treatment at the hotel was the main reason why I found the story intriguing. I didn't expect the reason when it was finally revealed. It was somewhat clever, yet a little silly when you think about it, since there were two people with the same name and the staff should have confirmed who was who before upgrading her. However, everything worked out in a funny way, and it felt as though all this drama was fated to bring Gigi to her forever partner.
If you enjoy funny friends-to-lovers plots with wedding themes and hilarious coincidences, this is the perfect book to read.
Portia Macintosh is back with a new romance that is the perfect book to get you in the mood for summer!
Gigi Marsden isn't looking forward to her sister's destination wedding. While she's sure Hawaii is going to be beautiful and she's excited to see her sister, Lucy, get married... her ex-boyfriend and his new absolutely devastatingly beautiful girlfriend, Sunshine Greene, is going to be there. What Gigi needs is an impressive date. However, when Gigi and her family arrive on the island she discovers out finding an impressive date isn't easy... even if you're living the "suite life".
I love romcoms and I particularly love romcoms written by British authors. The Suite Life is the fifth book I've read by Portia Macintosh and she's fast becoming one of my favourite romcom authors!
The Suite Life was an absolutely riveting read. Right from the first page I adored Gigi Marsden. She loves her job as a high-end hairdresser and recently had a bad breakup. But things can only look up right? Wrong!! What follows is trials and errors in the dating world as Gigi finds a date... with each dating adventure being worst then the last! It was a comedy of errors for sure and I loved every bit of it!!
I loved the twist of Gigi being upgraded to the "suite life" when she arrives on the Island... but she has no idea why she's been upgraded. She gives us a taste of what it is like to be uber rich. A gold bar, a super yacht anyone? Together with her new friend, Donnie, she tries to find a date and untangle the mystery around her new holiday experience and it was fun to watch it unfold.
The Suite Life is the perfect summer read. It's everything I look for in a romcom... interesting characters, a picturesque setting and a love interest that makes your toes curl!
If you're a fan of romcoms, like those by Marian Keyes and Chrissie Manby, then you need to add The Suite Life to your summer reading! I guarantee you that it will make you want to read all of Portia Macintosh's other romcoms too!!
Gigi's sister is getting married in a destination wedding in Hawaii!!! Gigi is going to be her bridesmaid, and Gigi's ex-boyfriend, Nathan, is going to be the best man. He dumped Gigi for Sunshine, a reality star/influencer and is bringing her to the wedding. UGH! Nothing like having salt rubbed into your wounds. Determined to make the best of things, Gigi arrives in Hawaii and is shocked when she is given a luxurious suite and is waited on hand and foot. She tells everyone that she has a date for the wedding and now she must find a date FAST!
This was an entertaining, cute, fun book that left me smiling. I enjoyed how the author touched on insecurity, vulnerability, loyalty, and friendship. I also enjoyed the antics and situations that Gigi found herself in while trying to find a date. Some are OTT and some were cute.
I enjoyed Gigi and her family. They were all likeable and had a great bond. I also enjoyed Donnie, who is at the resort alone after a breakup and becomes her sidekick as she attempts to find a date for her sister's wedding.
I thoroughly enjoyed this friends to lovers book. I always say, with romance books it is all about the journey. I loved the journey in this book. Another plus, is that nothing felt rushed or drawn out in this book. Everything happened at a nice realistic pace.
Fun, entertaining, well written, and charming.
I was happy to be approved for this ARC by NetGalley.
This book was a cute, fast read.
✨close proximity

The Suite Life is expected to release on April 16,2024!
Portia MacIntosh’s upcoming book, The Suite Life, will make you long for summer & a very calming and relaxing vacation on the coast of Hawaii. I always find MacIntosh’s books both enjoyable & entertaining but I feel this is her best yet.
Gigi finds herself subjected to a destination wedding in Hawaii for her sister. So many things (no spoilers here!) are going wrong for Gigi until her vacation takes a turn for the better all due to a mistaken identity. As she enjoys her vacation more and more she makes friends with Donnie who is vacationing on his own. The grumpy vs sunshine trope is immediately evident - Gigi is the grumpy one, while Donnie is more the sunshine character with his relaxed & fun attitude. The characters of Gigi & Donnie are a perfect pair. They have so much fun together and Donnie ends up helping Gigi relax & simply enjoy life.
Moreover, MacIntosh paints the most beautiful scenes of the land, the ocean and the sweet life that Gigi experiences in the book. All of this somehow makes the reader relax and simply enjoy. There are so many happy moments and warm feels in this book it is easy to see how this book is worth reading.
This book is perfect for summer reading . . . but be prepared, you might just find yourself booking a trip to Hawaii after reading for relaxation & beautiful sunsets by the ocean!
Really enjoyed reading this book! A super fun, summer read!
Gigi is on her way to Hawaii for her sister's destination wedding - and the best man is her ex...and he's bringing his super hot, influencer girlfriend. So Gigi decides she needs to find an even better plus one to take with her. It's funny going through her dating and trying to figure out what to do. When she gets to Hawaii, she's upgraded at the hotel to a huge, awesome suite - and keeps getting perks all week. She also meets Donnie, who decides to help her in her mission to find a wedding date. Only he's not who he seems. The characters are all engaging and the whole story is really fun to read!
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a temporary, digital ARC in return for my review.
‘The Suite Life’ by Portia Macintosh is a fun and fabulous lighthearted romance read with seriously summery vibes! We follow Gigi, a hair stylist whose ex-boyfriend is dating a reality TV star and is lined up to appear as Best Man at her sister’s wedding, as she tries to find the perfect plus one to take to Hawaii and stop her family feeling sorry for her. Immediately likeable, it’s hilarious and cringeworthy to join her on multiple disastrous dates on home soil before she jets off to the tropical resort hosting the nuptials…
When she arrives and discovers that she has been upgraded to a mega-suite and VIP status, the trip gets more interesting but the search for a date continues! Gigi’s family are cute and funny, as is her new friend and wingman Donnie.
There were so many laugh out loud moments in this book (I won’t be able to look at a cheeseburger or the ‘4G’ symbol on my phone anymore without giggling!) which made it the perfect cheerful read. I also enjoyed the reveal at about 50% and the surprise near the end.
This gets a solid four stars from me and I would recommend as a beach read or as a low angst palette cleanser between heavier novels. It will definitely put a smile on your face and may just transport you to gorgeous Maui!
I received an advance Digital Review Copy of this book from the publisher Boldwood Books via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook.
Once again Portia MacIntosh delivers a great read that is actually perfect for summer time or even spring break on the beach!
All the characters are great abd the story itself with the authors writing made me feel like I was actually in Hawaii! So say aloha to this little gem of a book and enjoy it while sun bathing in the upcoming summer sun sitting on the beach drinking a fruity delicious cold drink listening to the waves you won't be disappointed.
Brilliant book. Just my kind of thing. Funny, romantic and sweet. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion
Gigi is heading to Hawaii for her sister's wedding, in which she is a bridesmaid… but her ex is the best man. And he's bringing his new reality star/influencer girlfriend with him.
Her goal is to find an impressive date for the wedding so she doesn't have to go it alone.
When checking into the hotel she is given a free upgrade to a suite and is treated like a VIP.
I was actually surprised that the wedding wasn't a huge part of the plot, but rather the lead up to it and the attempt at finding a date.
It really was about Gigi and her antics, with the rest of the wedding party a great side cast.
There was nothing too shocking in the plot- but in a book like this you aren't going for shock value.
I really enjoyed this and found it very funny. It reminded me of Sophie Kinsella's earlier work (Confessions of a Shopoholic anyone?)
As with most books in this genre I wish it came with a spice-o-meter. So I'll make my own: Very low on the spice-o-meter. Very high on the laugh-o-meter.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the copy of this arc for my honest review. This book comes out April 16th!
A fun romantic read and I loved the setting of Hawaii and the ensuing tension. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book.
Thanks Portia, I now need to holiday in Hawai! Loved this book, really liked the characters and the setting!
Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
I enjoyed reading this book which was about Gigi.
After her relationship ended, she is now looking for her Mr Right. Her sister is getting married in Hawaii and she really doesn’t want to be the only single person at the wedding.
Her ex-boyfriend, who is best man to the groom will be bringing his girlfriend, the influencer.
But, when she arrives at the hotel, there seems to be some confusion over her reservation and she’s given a private suite, and receives treatment as though she’s someone special. Gigi accepts whatever she’s given.
But her aim is still to find someone to attend the wedding with.
Will she find her Mr Right?
I recommend this book.
This book hooked me in from the first chapter. I loved the character development and how the story progressed.
Thank you to @rachelsrandomresources for my copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
She’s done it again. I really enjoyed this one, and now want to jet off to Hawaii and stay in a suite! Gigi is on her way to Hawaii for her sister’s wedding without a date, which ordinarily wouldn’t be too bad if her ex and his new girlfriend are going to be there too. So of course, she looks for the best person she can take along as her plus 1 leading to a couple of disastrous dates in London and once she’s there.
I loved Donnie, he seemed to be there at just the right moment time and again throughout, and enjoyed being Gigi’s wingman. He even made her feel good about the mix-up with her getting a suite and being waited on hand and foot by the resort staff. That’s not to say she didn’t enjoy it 🤣
Another great story from Portia, I kinda worked out where it was going midway but still enjoyed it nonetheless.
