The Vynyl Detective stories are always very entertaining and a way to learn more about the world and the characters of a specific musical genre.
This time is electronic dance music and one of the wizard of the 90s scene.
It's as entertaining and well done as usual. The narrator does a good job in giving life to the characters and the solid plot kept me hooked and guessing.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Mixed feelings about this one. The writing, pace, chatacters, and subject were good and kept me more than interested. The actual plot, however, was a little contrived.

This is the seventh book in a series about the Vinyl Detective. The self confessed obsessive who is never named by any of the characters is a love of the purest form of recording the long playing and occasionally short playing record. He knows more than is humanly possible about that medium and the means of playing it. Happily it never gets boring and there is always a healthy dose of murder to alleviate the everyday search for the vinyl of dreams
This time the team of the eponymous detective, his girlfriend the amazingly talented Nevada, Agatha and Tinkler take on the world of techno as they look doe an aging techno star know as Imperium Dart ( birth name the rather more staid, Lambert Rankin)who has wondered off from this happy little ménage a quatre to pastures new.
They are suddenly in a strange new world and it’s not always pleasant. The team feel like they are being toyed with but things get serious when someone turns up dead.
If you’ve read the Vinyl Detective before you’ll be up to speed with the cats, the wine, good food, fast driving (that’s Agatha) and dope (that’s Tinker literally and usually in hand). It’s a lovely rich mix of narrative and character with a good payoff. I think these people would be fun to hang out with but sadly I couldn’t keep up the pace and I definitely couldn’t inhale.
I’ve been listeinf to the audio version and that is very enjoyable too. Great fun and you’ll develop a taste for Co-op champagne.
Thank you NetGalley, Andrew Cartmel, titian books for the eAudio of Noise Floor
Narrated by Finlay Robertson
Even though this is books 7 of the Vinyl Detectives, the synopsis of the book really intrigued me. I wasn’t disappointed! This book I easily picked up as a stand-alone about a small group of people who go around hunting down rare vinyl records and often solving mysteries on the way. The group dynamics are great and lighthearted and the mysteries/murders they solve are on the cosy side.
I absolutely adored Finlay Robertson as a narrator. His voice is a pleasure to listen to and well paced /fun for this narrative. I’ll be looking into listening to the back series at some point
4 stars 🌟
A series about a man who is a Vinyl detective, hunting for rare records who ends up involved in solving other crimes. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!
The fab four are back and embroiled in another madcap musical caper. As always, packed with great humour and epic adventures, this is a great addition to a fabulous series.
I love this series by Andrew Cartmel and this one is just as charming. Silly to the point of ridiculous at times, but that's what makes it good entertainment to take you away from the everyday.
This is number 7 in the series, i haven't read them all or in the correct order but i think its easy to follow as stand alone. The vinyl detective is a record guru turned detective and is employed to solve cases usually involving music, vinyl or recording world. Interesting plot verging on the psychedelic!. Hilariously funny at times and characters who you get invested in. Thank you #NetGalley for the audiobook to review.
This is the latest in the Vinyl Detective series and whilst the previous one had been a bit formulaic, this one had much more of interest me. It was not obvious which direction the story would take and there are enough ancillary characters to keep the waters muddy until the end.
The 4 main characters are now cosily familiar and showing their individual traits. It wasn't just an audiobook for walking, it was one I kept switching on when I had spare time.
Narrated well enough by Finlay Robertson.
Another great outing for our favourite team, including thrills, spills and even some recipes.
The narrator once again does an excellent job of bringing to life the familiar characters, as well as some new ones.
The book is well paced and has a good mix of humour, intrigue and peril.
This is must read for fans of this series.
