The Woken Gods by Gwenda Bond is a thrilling, unique take on mythology mixed with urban fantasy. The story follows Kyra, a sharp and brave heroine, as she navigates a world where ancient gods have woken up and are stirring chaos. It’s fast-paced, with great twists, and the mythological elements add a fascinating layer. If you’re into adventure with a dash of danger and a strong, relatable protagonist, this one’s definitely worth a read. Bond’s world-building is solid, making you feel like these gods really could walk among us!

I love everything about mythology, so I was really excited to read this book. I was thrilled when I read that the gods of many different pantheons were included, and this was certainly true, but the majority of them were just "background characters," if you will. Only a few were really explained and had big parts in the story. This is where I think the length of the book (it's a relatively short, quick read) could have worked against it. What I did read, though, I really enjoyed.

I've heard that this book is for fans of Percy Jackson, but I honestly didn't get that vibe off of it. I loved the world building here, and the characters were well written, but I could have used more back story.

All in all, though, this story has more going for it than against it, and I ended up enjoying it very much.

This ended up being just okay to me. The story was good, and I love reimaginings of Greek tales, but something about it just didn't quite hit home that I can't put my finger on.

The book sounded great, but unfortunately I didn't get the chance to start it before it expired. I would still pick up the book if I saw it in a shop.
