Getting back into fiction, this helped. A different take on Peter and Wendy, that is definitely for older readers.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for an advanced e-copy of Losing Neverland, in exchange for an honest review.

'Losing Neverland' offers an appealing retelling of the classic Peter Pan story, injecting it with a dark and twisted edge. Montgomery's reimagining of the Peter Pan characters is both creative and compelling. The idea of Hook being a manifestation of Peter's darker side adds an intriguing layer to their dynamic. The story is told from the perspectives of Peter, Wendy, and Hook, providing a comprehensive view of their emotions and motivations.
The forbidden romance between Peter and Wendy is a central focus, adding an element of intrigue and longing.
While the spice is abundant, it often overshadows the plot. The focus on explicit scenes detracts from the story's depth and emotional impact. In some sections, the plot feels thin and lacking in substance. The focus on steamy encounters takes precedence over character development and narrative progression.

'Losing Neverland' is a compelling retelling of a beloved classic that explores dark themes and forbidden love. The ending also leaves several unanswered questions, leaving readers feeling somewhat unsatisfied. Overall, it's an enjoyable read for those who appreciate dark and twisted romances, but readers looking for a more balanced blend of plot and spice may be disappointed.
This was a 3.75 Stars read for me!

I love fairy tale retellings or a reimagining. I am a huge fan of some others I’ve read and I think that is the reason I did not care for this book as much. I did think the writer’s style of writing is good and would consider reading one of their other books, but I wanted to DNF this book so many times. For me it just left me wanting on numerous parts of the story, like we just didn’t get a good enough plot to be really invested. I truly appreciate NetGalley for allowing me to download this copy in exchange for my honest review.

Losing Neverland is a dark Peter Pan retelling, so I was super excited about this book. It is an enemy to lovers' story, forced proximity, with a lot of action and twists happening, there was never a slow or quiet moment, which was one of my favorite things. As well as dark heated tension between characters with so many things unsaid. I Really liked the dark atmosphere in this story, It was really engrossing along with Neverland itself and descriptions.
One thing I wish there was a little more of was backstory and world building. There were things revealed here and there until the big unveiling at the end, but I feel like there was a ton left out and I wanted more, plus a couple things that did not make sense which is why I need more development. This book also relies heavily on miscommunication which, I don't love, I get that these things happen but was the main reason for a number of points I would have liked a different direction. Tink definitely should have had a more prominent role in this book and her main motivation does not make sense, jealousy I get but I just don’t get why Hook was so overall important to her. Not to mention Lost boys played no role except being sleazy and cruel at the beginning and were disposable. All these points are why I rated it a three and made it just ok.
I received an ebook, via Netgalley. This review is my own honest opinion.

This is my second Peter Pan retelling, while I did enjoy this one more, I don’t think Peter Pan retellings are for me. I did fly through the end and it made the book better in my eyes.

I'm so confused on how I actually feel about this book. This was a very original and interesting take on Peter Pan. I think I enjoyed it, but there were also some things I personally didn't vibe with. I enjoyed all the plot twists and the spicy scenes. I also liked the back and forth between the past and the present. I think i would read other books by this author!

Fans of Lost Boys and Pan, a different and dark take on Pan 17 years later - Wendy left Neverland, and is an adult, Pan is still Pan yet more, years have made changes, dark not light. A fun read for those into the darker and kinda twisted Neverland, a welcome addition to the trope!

I wanted to love this book. Sadly I couldn't find much I liked. The biggest thing is that even though Peter and Wendy are the same age (actually Peter is older) in this story Wendy grows up and Peter stays 17. So Wendy is a 40-year-old woman and Peter is a 17-year-old boy. So that was a major sticking point for me.
I also didn't like that the whole premise of the story was either non-communication or miscommunication. Wendy was either crying or whining the whole time. When she tried to act tough I sort of rolled my eyes because it felt disingenuous to her character the whole time.
The whole concept of this book felt underdeveloped and missing giant chunks of the story.

So overall I was underwhelmed and disappointed.

i received this as an ARC from Netgalley.

“Problem is, I’ve been holding on so long to the pain, I don’t know how I’ll ever let it go.”

“Losing Neverland,” by Everlyn Montgomery

I read the original and this version was just as good. It’s the smutty version of Everlyn Montgomery’s dark Peter Pan retelling. It had family abuse, gangs, fighting for your lives, smut, conflict between two main characters, jealousy, and everything else you can think of. One of the best Peter Pan retellings I have read. Definitely worth rereading over again. 5 out of 5 stars, loved.

It was a fun read! Took me awhile to get into this one, but I am glad I stuck it out.

Wendy was ok as a character - I liked that she was tougher as an adult, but the POVs when they were younger were cute. The twist of Peter Pan and Hook being the same worked well for the dark romance. It was entertaining reading both his POVs. Side characters were sort of caricatures, especially Tink. The spice was excellent. The ending itself was quite abrupt which lost a few stars. It seems like it just concluded with a giant loose end of what their HEA looked like.

Thank you NetGalley!

This book gave me everything I wanted when I requested this book. It was such a great dark take on Peter Pan, which is one of the best stories to tell a twisted tale about. It was firey, spicey, hot, and made me crave the Captain more than I would care to admit. Great twists and turns and a unique perspective.

I had to DNF this one about 30% in. It was just not doing it for me- and I love Peter Pan! I may try this one again at a later date.

This is a Peter Pan retelling. It has an interesting twist with Peter and Hook that I won't give away but I like that. I would say this is definitely darker and a lot more grown-up than other fairytales so this book would be for a more adult audience, I did feel it was a tad on the abusive side though.

Losing Neverland is a dark retelling of the beloved children’s story Peter Pan and Wendy. I love a fairytale retelling, especially a dark retelling, and Peter Pan is one of my favourite stories so I was highly anticipating reading this book but unfortunately, I found it very disappointing.

Ultimately, as harsh as it sounds, the book is basically just smut without any substance. The premise could have been really interesting, such as the fact that Peter and Hook are the same person, but ultimately it’s really badly executed to point that I feel like I understand it less having read the entire book than I did when I tried to guess the plot from the synopsis.

The plot really just makes no sense, no matter how hard I try to piece it all together. We frequently jump between past and present and between different POVs so the narrative really lacks flow and is very hard to follow at times. Nothing is fully explained and there are many characters who you’d think would play important roles – such as Tiger Lily, Smee/John, the pirates and the mermaids – who are basically just there for the sake of things. I still don’t understand the whole battle at the end of the book and why that happened and I understand the ending even less.

It also feels like the author just doesn’t understand what a dark romance is. We have random dark – and potentially triggering – scenes thrown in randomly, such as (spoiler alert) the lost boys trying to gang rape Wendy, which completely baffled me. These scenes do nothing to progress the plot and it just felt like they were put in just to try and tick the ‘dark content’ box.

It does get one star for the fact that some of the spicy scenes are ok and I generally liked the portrayal of the ‘Touch Her and Die’ trope, even if Peter did go a tad far with it, but that’s about it unfortunately. I would say that I tend to prefer realistic spicy scenes and these were the complete opposite of that, far from what you’d expect from two virgin MCs but by that point in the book I’d stopped bothering to question logic.

Overall this was just incredibly disappointing and not something I could recommend to anyone, unless you want a lot of smut and even more confusion.

Losing Nederland is a remake of the fairytale peterpan. It's a dark romance with sexy man and a fast romance.

This book was overall good! I wanted the villian to be more "villian" then he was. The perfect amount of spice and story line as well. If dark romance re-rellings are youe thing, this book is for you!

This was such a good Peter Pan retelling. It was angsty and the main characters had so much chemistry. I really enjoyed the second chance romance within the dark elements. Well written and well done.

I usually love a good retelling - especially when it comes to Peter Pan and Captain Hook and it being a dark retelling.

I feel like this one was good but left a lot to be answered. The writing was good but was a bit confusing. With Pan being Hook, I just never felt I had a handle on why that was a thing. Something I could not get over was the age gap between Pan and Wendy via looks. And I may be alone in that, but it kind of was weird to me that they were similar ages but he still looked young and she looked like an older woman. Uncomfy to say the least for me personally. (And as an age gap aficionado, I cannot explain why I felt this way.)

Thanks to Netgalley and Evelyn Montgomery for the chance to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

While I enjoyed Losing Neverland, I don't feel like it lived up to it's promising premise.
I like a bit of spice, but I thought there were far too many spicy scenes. They were definitely the main focus and the storyline suffered for it.

I think with a bit more character development and a little less spice, it could have been great.

3 stars from me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book is like 80% smut and the brief plot there is, especially the ending, felt rushed and somewhat inconsistent. In this book, Peter and Captain Hook are the same person (not a spoiler, we know from very early on) and Peter spiralled into darkness due to Wendy leaving Neverland 17 years prior. Now Wendy is in her thirties and Peter wants to get back what she "stole from him". The story is told from the present with flashbacks to when Peter and Wendy were both seventeen. I thought these were cute and showed how much he truly loved her. The part that didn't sit right with me is that in the present Peter still looks like a seventeen-year-old but Wendy has now fully grown up into a proper adult and yet they're still together. Overall this is pretty mild for a dark romance.
