DNF at 35%
So far, I would give it 3,5☆.
I have to say that the book was enjoyable. Not very pretentious, nor complicated. I enjoyed the descriptions of Neverland and the duality of Peter's personality, which I think was the best part and looked very well done.
However, I felt the book was a bit dull, and for the life of me, I couldn't stand Wendy. She was infuriatingly stupid and had the carisma of rock.
I might go back to the book and finish it at some point, but not right now

I really wanted to love this story but unfortunately I dnf it very early on. To me I love a book.that tells a story and keeps me wanting more. Unfortunately this diddent do that for me

I am a sucker for a dark retelling of stories I read growing up. The adult version! The story itself was good but I felt like the author could have the expanded details throughout the entire book to make it feel more of a complete story. I felt like it could have been so much better. The past vs present was wonderfully done as well. The idea and direction of it was perfection.

Thank you to NetGalley and Evelyn Montgomery for this opportunity to read, rate and review this arc which is available now.
This is straight up erotica. I’m not even saying it’s romance. It’s erotica with a wee bit of plot. I forgot about it the moment I was done reading.

Long and short, I’m a simp for Peter Pan retellings.
So, Peter got taken by Tink at 13, lived in Neverland all that time (back and forth to Wendy) until Wendy was 17. Peter would still look like a 13 year old boy then…. Given that he stayed for a long time in the “real world” once Wendy stayed for good. So Wendy and her way with a boy who looked 13? Ew. I can’t see how he’s some 17 year old when she was 17… given that he was 2 years older than her anyway.
And then, he’s 17 and she’s 34? Because yes, they go about two decades went by…. she’s nearly 40….but the twins are Peters (I’m sorry, spoiler but you get that without anyone saying right away) and the twins are 17! Maybe at a push she’s 35.
So ew again.
Not into age gap with minors. But, for the purpose of this story - because I’m a Peter Pan simp - I ignored it until I finished the book.
AND THEN let’s talk about everything else. Peter is Hook? Hook is Peter? John is Smee? And why isn’t Michael talked about more after what happened!? I feel like he should’ve popped in a little more. Poor Michael.
And, why is Peter Pan always a smoker? It’s not big. It’s not clever. It’s not cool. Don’t smoke!
Tbf, I’ve only just finished this book and the ending… I’m majorly pissed off… well ok, I’m literally shouting in my bedroom right now.
It was a good story! These are nit pick things, maybe. The writing was great. Story idea great. I don’t like the “virgins but are brilliant in bed” thing that happens in all stories for some strange reason… be realistic people!!! But thankfully that’s not what the story was about….
He goes on and on about finding what he lost, what they lost…. What was it? Their innocence? Honey, sorry but that has gone out the door now. You can’t find that again. If not that, then idk what the hell they were on about….

Holy moly.... I don't even know what to say, but this one did not disappoint!! Everything I did not know I needed...

Wendy knows a secret about Neverland, Peter Pan, and Hook. She is the key to Neverland's demise. When she returns of Neverland in her 40s after her children are grown, she is thrust back into a world that she never expected to return to. And her relationship with Peter is one that might just be the death of her.
This was not great. The characterization was a bit over the top and lacked nuance. I appreciated the presence of the backstory from when Wendy and Peter were kids and the resetting of Neverland in a more sinister light. But Peter's darkness and why Neverland was some kind of dire straits when Wendy left was not clear. The twist with Peter's identity wasn't well fleshed out, since there was no secrecy about it. While there was an attempt to make Wendy strong, it seemed discordant. The characters and story was flat, mostly a frame work for a dark fantasy smutty romance. But with a setting like Neverland and more of a sexual coming of age combined with a more standard attempt at a dark fantasy, it kind of just felt a little gross.
Thank you to @netgalley, the publisher, and the author for a copy of the book.

I love a good retelling and haven't read many (any?) like this one of Wendy and Peter Pan. I really appreciate how the author crafted two stories - this one with more content warning material and another with that taken out. I think this was just a really unique take on a classic and really well done!

I'm really torn on the rating for this book, and usually, I don't have to think about my rating because I am a pretty easy-to-please reader. It could be the fantasy part of this that is just not for me, but I couldn't say for sure. This story is a dark, somewhat spicy, retelling of Peter Pan and Wendy, which sounded like such a good story plot to me.
I feel like many parts of the story were not developed well enough for the reader, such as some betrayals, and how Peter/Hook was so angry at Wendy initially, when later it was revealed that he knew everything so there was no real reason for his anger. That felt confusing to me as a reader. There were certainly some spicy scenes, but the first ones didn't seem realistic for the characters being virgins. The ending also felt super rushed and I'm left feeling unfilled.
What I did enjoy about the book was the endless love between Peter and Wendy. Their devotion to what they shared, despite everything that happened between them and the anger they felt toward one another. Overall, it was an okay read but not one I would read again.

Thank you netgalley for sending me this ARC. Overall I really enjoyed this book. The twist of Peter’s character was a cool idea, and I found the obsession to be a fun dark element.

Losing Neverland is a dark retelling of Peter Pan. I think this sorry could work for another but for me it fell a bit flat. I don’t think retelling of Disney stories are really my thing. I DNF’d pretty early on. The story just did not capture me and life is too short to read a book that isn’t very interesting. This is my second book by this author and the first was amazing! (Resurrection)

I love dark romance and have enjoyed some books I didn't think would be "my thing". This was my first book that was Disney based and it was weird to read the story and picture the cute cartoon characters doing naughty things, lol
I knew the story line but honestly I was hoping for more steam...and there wasn't enough for me. I think when you've read some pretty steamy books the milder ones don't quit hit the spot, but this book would be really good for someone wanting to dip their toe in the dirty waters.

Rating: 4/5
I received eARC for my honest opinion.
I love retellings, but I really love a good dark retelling, and this was done just right to be a good dark romance retelling of Peter Pan, Hook, and Wendy…
I thought the author did a great job with keeping the reader engaged throughout the book, with all the twists and turns. I loved that in every chapter something new and interesting happens. My heart broke for Peter and Wendy when they finally were able to figure out what was really happening to them, I won’t say because I don’t want to ruin the book but naughty bad bad tink. I do have to say that I think there was more smut in the book than the plot though, but there is a plot in there and you can see it, but something was missing.
I thought the characters were well developed and easy to connect with. I loved Peter and Wendys characters and I think they were written out well… I didn’t even mind Hook at all.
There were a few missing parts for me, like I wanted to know more about the choices that Tink made and the reasons behind it all in more detail but other than that this was a fast paced, dark romance, with smut and twists and turns.
I want to thank NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to review this book.

I DNF at 50% of the book. There is no plot other than Wendy and Peter, either in the flashbacks or in the present. In the flashbacks, they discover new parts of each other, but it was astonishing that they knew so well what to do, considering they were so inexperienced.
What really annoyed me was that they clearly had to talk about their past, but all they did was assume and bicker, spiced with a bit of steamy tension which wasn't executed. They spent time together but didn't talk about the important stuff, and it wasn't revealed (at least not until the 50% mark) what the issue was back then. But it was repeated again and again that Wendy destroyed his life by leaving him, and hers because he didn't come for her.
I don't know what happens afterwards, but the first half of the book could have been shortened to 50 pages and nothing would have been missing.

I loved this take on Peter Pan, something I haven't seen before and I really enjoyed reading from Hook's pov, because you know, bad boy and all. Past and present tense with multiple pov's.I did feel like there was something missing though, and was left with several questions. Was Tiger Lily there just to create additional friction? Could we have had more information on John, and what about Michael and the family business? But overall a good read and looking forward to the next one

Although this book didn't resonate with me, it could still be a great read for someone else! As a fan of fairytale retellings, I was excited to dive into this one, but unfortunately, it fell a bit short for me. The pacing felt slow, and I struggled to stay invested in the story. However, I recognize that others may appreciate it more than I did. Losing Neverland by Evelyn Montgomery offers a mature take on the Peter Pan story, delving into darker themes and weaving in a passionate second-chance romance that adds depth to the classic fairytale.

I love Peter Pan retellings, especially dark retellings where Pan is the Villan. I was really excited for this book, but it the execution fell short for me and I ended up DNFing it at 60%. A lot of this story takes place in the past. At first I thought that was really cool, getting the back story spread throughout, however as the story went on it was utilized so much that it really bigger down the plot progression and I found myself caring less and less about what was going to happen to the point that I just couldn't go on. At 60% I should be well into the story instead of feeling like it's just starting. I didn't particularly like any of the characters. Pan/Hook was the most interesting, and I loved the concept of them being the same person. The spice was fine, but not good enough or often enough for me to stick it out and the chemistry just wasnt there for me. I have rated this 2 stars because it wasn't a bad book, and I can see why other people would like it, it just wasn't there for me.
Thank you to NeyGalley for providing me with a ARC copy of this book.

Seriously give me anything involving a dark Disney retelling and I’m alllll in! A little confusing to understand but I’ve never read this version of pan and hook so that was really nice to dive into. I hope we get more info in the next book!!

I did not finish this book. While I am a fan of dark romance, I was not expecting the graphicness of the underage characters having sex. It made me extremely uncomfortable.

Losing Neverland is a dark romance redo of the infamous fairy tale - Peter Pan. This book by Evelyn Montgomery spins the story into a whole new direction. Peter and Hook are the same person. Peter is the innocent boy who will never grow up and keeps pretending while Hook is his adult evil alter ego. The story goes into Peter's origins and how Peter and Wendy actually met, before Neverland and pixie dust. I give this book 4 STARS and recommend it.
