When Kyle inherits his grandfather’s home in the Welsh mountains he is surprised, as he hasn’t seen his grandfather for years. He, Lydia and their child move in: they are given the cold shoulder by virtually everyone they come across. To Lydia, it feels as if the house is giving her the cold shoulder too. Then, strange, inexplainable things begin to happen. Lydia is terrified for herself and her child, but Kyle brushes all her fears aside.
This was a chilling ghost story with a difference. It is not for the faint hearted, I actually found it quite difficult to read on my own at night due to the build up of tension.

This is a very creepy chilling story . It’s a bit of a slow burner that gives you chills . At times it scared me , quite haunting but very good.
I’d definitely recommend to my friends.

This is the second book I have read by this author and I now consider her to be my favourite! Always descriptive and thought provoking, her books are just perfect for dark, spooky nights!

This story follows a young family to Wales where they try to settle into a very old cottage, left as an inheritance but soon it seems that everything isn’t as it should be. It kept me gripped the who,e way through and the ending was excellent.

I highly recommend reading this if you love intrigue and dark settings. Brilliant!

A creepy story, with a slow build up to increase the sense of isolation and dread Liddy feels at the tower. The ending was rather abrupt and I do feel that after the mounting eeriness, it was a little weak. However, the book kept me hooked throughout.

At first look at the blurb and throughout the first few chapters introducing the seemingly uninteresting small village and inhabitants i was a little wary whether i would end up wishing for a bit more excitement, however i was pleasantly surprised.
The build up of suspense and eeriness was really well woven into Lydia and Kyles daily lives adjusting to their new move, the background and history that creates a growing curiosity of what this mysterious bad presence is presented through the behaviour and language of every character encountered not just the odd happenings. Lydia and Kyle stay relateable as they attempt to figure things out, the dual pov alongside the way the author writes the insight into their inner thoughts and struggles gives a nice depth to the characters and story. The story behind the presence and the towns past was quite sad, there is no sudden aha it all makes sense moment more of a you had been given all the jigsaw piece and you put them together at a nice steady pace. The slower pace of the book helped really understand and connect the characters; past and present.

I haven’t read a good, old fashioned ghost story for a good few months so I was really keen to start Hear Him Calling. I am now excited to read more!

This story centres around married couple and new parents, Lydia and Kyle. Kyle discovers that he has inherited a house in Wales from his distant grandfather. The London based couple are young, broke and exhausted from looking after their eight month old Jamie so the prospect of owning their own house in a Welsh mountain, surrounded by nature, peace and tranquility is just too good to miss.

The young couple move in but something isn’t quite right. Something is watching them. Something leaves scratches in the wooden plinth or their new kitchen and haunts Lydia’s dreams. Something, or someone from a time long lost.

This is a genuinely scary tale and it gave me a couple of creepy dreams, I can tell you!

Although the ending was a bit abrupt, I really enjoyed reading this and I have since discovered that Carly Reagon has written another book, which I have added to my ever expanding tbr. If you like ghostly, unsettling tales then this is definitely for you. I can’t wait to read another from this author 👻

This was excellent.

A genuinely creepy story set within the deep dark beauty of Wales where something dangerous lurks behind the gorgeous scenery.

The characters are beautifully relatable and the writing is wonderful, creating a disturbing and distinctive feel to the narrative.

It made me dream vividly and the ending is one that will keep creeping into your mind. I thoroughly enjoyed this, it has everything you want from a tale of the supernatural.

High recommend.

Omg! This is the best book I’ve read for a long time, I really couldn’t put it down until I’d finished it. A really creepy story as well as some horrifying parts that were hard to read but crucial to the story. Excellently written. I’d highly recommend this book.

When Kyle and Lydia inherit an old tower in the Welsh countryside, it seems like a new start for them and their baby son, away from the stresses of London.

However, the locals are unwelcoming, the mountain looms over them, and their nearest neighbours are a standoffish farmer and an abandoned white cottage.

Lydia feels like someone is watching them from the mountain and even within the house. Then there’s the dark stain and scratches in the kitchen, the smells and odd shadows, and the sense that an ominous presence is just behind her.

As Kyle falls under the spell of the tower and Lydia begins to unravel the story of the white cottage, will she get her family away before it’s too late?

A brilliant gothic tale of obsession, haunting and revenge.

I also strongly recommend Reagon’s first novel ‘The Toll House’ (2022).

This drew breath from my lungs in some parts, really scary. An unbelievably good tale part historical fiction, part thriller. I was encapsulated within the story jumping at the chills and horrors spilling forth. Frightenly good read.

This felt like an inversion to a traditional horror movie to me, something calling them outside to be let in and was so much more exciting, inventive and creepy overall, I loved the secluded Welsh location too it really added to the creepiness.
