WOW – Shari keeps outdoing herself, One Long Weekend is wonderful, sad, and inspiring. It has you gasping, laughing, hoping, wishing, and getting annoyed.
The 4 main characters are amazing. Val, Sophie, Rory and Alice. Sophie looking for a lost love - (I have done similar), Rory rebuilding his life and finally growing a spine negotiating a contract, his mum Alice doing much the same, his waste of space father really is a waste of space, then there is poor Val, grieving, on a trip to see her ‘nieces’ ends up losing her 4 treasured rings. Somehow Shari puts them all in Glasgow and their lives change forever. Brilliant!! You can’t put the book down, it’s such a page turner. The audible is fabulous too, one can only hope that a reader out there has Shari’s lost items and returns them in a way that fiction makes life happen. A 5 Star must read novel.
I love this author's believable characters, immersive emotion and serendipitous twist, which make this so engaging to read. I like the inspiration for this story, which is full of heart and draws the reader into the centre of the characters' lives. Val is struggling with her grief, and her supportive family want to show they care. When she loses something precious on a trip to London, it leads to a fatalistic return to Glasgow and some surprising connections. The story has various viewpoints and allows the reader to be involved in the emotion and the mystery. I love the dynamic between Val and Carly and Carol, the positive use of social media and the uplifting yet realistic outcomes of the story. It's a heartwarming, poignant read full of emotion, surprises, and life-changing events.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher.
Reading One Long Weekend by Sherry Lowe it’s like gossiping with family we get to see those characters we love in every now and then someone shows up and you’re like oh it’s been so long since I’ve seen them. It gives you such an awesome feeling in this book it focuses on Aunt Val. She is still trying to get over the loss of her beloved dawn when the book starts after a sleepless night she is rushing to get to the airport because she was going to visit Carly and Caro in London. In her haste she puts four rings that are sentimental in her pocketbook but because she doesn’t secure the compartment by the time she reaches London she cannot find them anywhere. When Val says she has to go back to find her rings Carly and Caro seeing the state she is in goes with her back to Scotland. While this is happening a girl named Sophie who landed in Scotland is aunt Val was exiting uses the same crabby cab driver and finds her rings and a gold hairbrush in the foot well but while arguing as to what to do with the rings with the rude cab driver, he slumps in his seat they wreck and Sophie is knocked out. Somewhere else in London earlier that morning Alice gets home from her job cleaning a local school and just wants five minutes of peace from her abusive husband Larry and thankfully he is soon called to work as they’re shorthanded. When Lowery leaves, she sits in their tiny garden and thinks about her son Rory who she misses so much and doesn’t know that somewhere else in Scotland he is being told by his wife Juliet she wants a divorce. These four stories that seem independent from each other will come together and True to Sherry Lowe’s fantastic writing style some of them will become friends but the biggest question of all is will Aunt Val get her rings back. I always think of Sherry Lowe’s books like thrillers with happy endings and a dash of romance I love her books so much and love to see those from previous books make cameos I think Sherry Lowe does Scotland Credit and is a great ambassador for that country. Either way I totally love her books and can’t wait to read more from one of my favorite authors. I want to thank Boldwood books for my free Ark copy via Net Galley. Please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
Some are lost, Some are found.
As Val struggles with her grief after losing her husband her loved ones invite her to stay but things just turn from bad to worse as she misplaces her most prized possessions on her journey. Friends and strangers try to reunite her with them as they all face their own personal troubles.
I was so excited when I got approved for this book by @netgalley and rightly so. I’ve adored all the books I’ve read by this author and it was such a treat to revisit some of the characters. An author I’d always recommend and how apt I read this over a long weekend!
I have read and enjoyed several of Shari's books now. I still have a few books to go before I can truly say that I have read everything that she has released. I hope to have achieved this before Christmas. I read the synopsis of 'One Long Weekend' and it certainly sounded like the sort of book I have come to expect from Shari- an emotional but ultimately uplifting story. Well it was certainly that and so much more. I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'One Long Weekend' but more about that in a bit.
As with all of Shari's books, I was drawn to 'One Long Weekend' by the fact that I saw Shari's name on the cover of a book that I knew I hadn't read yet. AS soon as I started reading the story itself that was it for me. I knew that I wouldn't be doing anything other than reading for the rest of the afternoon as I knew that I wouldn't be able to put the book down. I must be psychic because that's exactly what happened. My Kindle wasn't exactly glued to my hand but it might as well have been because it travelled everywhere with me. I couldn't bear to miss a single second of the story. Part of the reason why I enjoyed reading the book so much has to do with the four main characters. I warmed to them from the start and it didn't take me long to consider them as being friends of mine rather than being characters in a book. It was interesting to learn how the characters met each other and how their stories interlinked in some way. I had my own suspicions as to what was going to happen and I had to keep reading to see if things panned out in the way in which I thought that it would. This was one of those books that proved to be addictive reading and the story stayed with me whether I had my Kindle in my hand or not. The more of the book that I read, the more I wanted to read and the quicker the pages seemed to turn. I was so wrapped up in the story and in the lives of the characters that I didn't realise just how quickly the time was passing and the speed with which I was getting through the story. All too quickly I reached the end of 'One Long Weekend' and I had to say goodbye to the characters. I found 'One Long Weekend' to be the true definition of an unputdownable, page turner of a read with lots of life, love and laughs aplenty. It's an ultimately uplifting story.
'One Long Weekend' is superbly written but then I have come to expect nothing less from Shari Low. Shari has an easy going writing style that is easy to get used to and easy to get along with. In fact reading one of Shari's books often feels more like a chat between friends rather than reading a book. Shari certainly knows how to grab the reader's attention and draw them into what proves to be one hell of a story and then some. Shari certainly cares about her characters and this shines through in the very vivid and realistic way in which she describes them. She makes her characters seem just as real as you and I. I found that I was so in tune with the characters that I went through all the emotions that the different characters were going through. I always find that the sign of a good book is when I find myself 'living' the story as if it was real and interact with the characters as if they can hear me. Well that's exactly what happened with 'One Long Weekend'. I love the way in which Shari makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story and at the heart of the action. That's how I felt anyway.
In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'One Long Weekend' and I would recommend it to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Shari's work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.
One of the best things about being invited on blog tours has been discovering authors new to me, and Shari Low is the perfect example, this being a hattrick of her books this year.
This book unusually starts with a Note from Shari… which explains the inspiration being the story, and it made me love meet even more. Almost as good is the next section On This Journey You’ll Meet… with a summary of the key characters, very useful for my old brain!
I’ll not repeat the blurb swipe, just know that this book is gorgeous. Shari Low crafts her characters so beautifully that you can almost see and hear them, and she very cleverly intertwines their stories (even bringing favourite characters from her previous books).
There’s tough stuff and heartbreak in this book, but there’s also fun and humour and it’s gorgeous.
Every time I read a Shari Low book, I want to read more. Highly recommended!
Thanks to Rachels Random Resources Boldwoodbooks for the opportunity to read this early copy.
I have read and loved lots of great Shari Low books so when I saw this one was coming out I jumped on it!
In One Long Weekend, we meet five women, Val, a recent widow grieving the loss of her husband, Carol and Carly, Val's adult nieces, Alice, the unhappy wife of a former MP who was wrapped up in a scandal, and Sophie, a young woman who has experienced the loss of her mother, has grown and grieved, and is now ready to give love a shot. When Val loses four precious rings in a cab on the way to visit her nieces, the women are brought together in the search. Alice's son Rory is also one of the main characters and the story alternates between his, Alice's, Sophie's and Val's POVs.
As with many of Shari's books, the story takes place over a short period of time, this time one long weekend, which keeps the story moving at a fun and fast paced. The book as a whole was really well done and totally what I was expecting and anticipating as a Shari Low book. I love the way that strangers are brought together and that it really celebrates the idea of strong, independent women, but also that there is a benefit in connecting with each other and supporting other strong women. You don't need to ask me twice, I would absolutely recommend this book and look forward to reading Low's next one!
Thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood for giving me the chance to read and review this book.
Ooh this is another brilliant read from Shari Low. She creates the best characters. I got totally absorbed in this one. A full 5 stars from me!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of this book
As with all of the absolutely fabulous books by Shari
Low this is an outstanding 5⭐️review that I would rate higher if that were allowed.
In her latest book Shari introduces us to some new characters and brings back some of the old favourites. Val is featured in this book as a much loved returning character and I was so wrapped up in the story of the loss of her beloved items I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen, all the while praying for their safe return. A new character is Sophie, who inadvertently finds the missing items, just before a life changing event that rocks the lives of many of the characters, for different reasons.
The ability of Shari Low to engage her readers in the story and the warmth of her characters is the thing I love best about them. I feel as if I am revisiting old friends and making new ones along the way. Hilarious at one point then the deafening sadness and grief has you crying or laughing along.
I cannot recommend this book and all of this authors books highly enough.
Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a book in four parts really as we have four people who have one weekend to heal there woes. This is such a lovely book to read and the four characters are just wonderful. This is a book that made me laugh and I think I smiled throughout the whole book. It is a very easy book to read but it caught and held my attention throughout which I loved. I read it so quickly I wanted more.
The way the author writes her characters and makes them so different and interesting is wonderful. The story kept my interest with its intrigue and a few twists. There was always something to look forward to in each chapter and with each character. A wonderful, funny and beautifully written book.
Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for giving me the opportunity to read adn review this book.
Shari Low - One Long Weekend.
Four people. Four difficult situations and one Shari Low to use her wit and emotional intelligence to weave them all together in her own special style.
Val, Sophie, Alice and Rory are all facing issues and tricky situations in their lives. Missing treasures, lost love, broken marriages and humiliation are all on the table.
Shari Low again writes some wonderful characters, who you won’t fail to fall in love with.
#OneLongWrekend is another charming, funny, emotional and sweet read from Shari Low.
Mainly set in Glasgow and taking place over the space of three days, this is another epic read from the author.
I’m yet to read a book from Shari Low that I didn’t like.
Keep up the excellent work clever lady!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I've reviewed a lot of Shari Low's books, and they were all amazing. I have now reviewed all of the books in the "One" series.
One Long Weekend had so many characters I was interested in. Val and her way of talking made me smile. I was so pleased to find Carly was in this story. I loved, loved. loved her story in "What If?".
I was concerned for Sophie and Ash.
I really felt for Alice. Her present and past life story was just so powerful. I liked the fact she liked Chanel Number 5 perfumed shower gel and her lipstick. Her using it resonated with me, as, I believe that a bit of luxury makes you feel better whether times are good or bad. Beauty products and makeup always make me feel better whatever is going on in my life.
I didn't like Larry at all and hoped Alice could leave him. I felt for her too about her son, Rory.
Thanks to Shari Low and Boldwood Books for my eARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.

Book Review:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
If you are looking for an author who writes books featuring an ensemble cast of characters (many of which are reoccurring), then look not further than Shari Low. After decades of experience and 20 plus titles to her name, she produces the most remarkable stories. Her latest book, One Long Weekend solidifies her as the queen of complex story telling!!!
Inspired by her real life, Low knew she had to write this story. Having one of the key plot points be Val’s lost jewelry, it required multiple lives intersect over a 72 hour timeframe. This limited timeline created a sense of urgency. Readers will become so invested that they won’t be able to put this book down. It took me less than a day to read. However, I would have consumed it in one sitting if time had allowed.
This book is comprised of compelling characters from all differrent walks of life. They run the gamut of young and old, rich and poor, lovable and despicable.
I enjoyed meeting a new cast of characters and reconnecting with old ones. But don’t be discouraged if you haven’t read Low’s previous books. She does a phenomenal job of reintegrating them without alienating new readers.
As with all of Shari Low’s books, I cannot recommend it enough. It is far more than a five star story. It deserves all the positive accolades and is sure to be on the best selling list in no time.
Special thanks to Netgalley, Boldwood Books, and Shari Low for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest review.
A brilliant read that will give you a good few laughs along the way. The characters are great. This is a book that I would really recommend this book!
This was such an annoying book (not) Annoying in so much that I couldn’t put it down and had to keep reading chapter after chapter.
What a super read and such diverse main characters. It made me laugh, made me cry and made me want to hunt out all this author’s back library. It a huge recommendation from me.
I love how Low brings together a range of characters over a disastrous event. As you would expect, this story takes place over a long weekend (Friday through to Sunday) and is narrated from four character view points. This isn’t as confusing as it would seem, thanks to the long chapters and developed characterisation.
At some points the character chapter would finish on a cliff-hanger, making me desperate for the story to circle back to them to find out more. But something else would then happen which would distract me and keep me hooked on the story as a whole. Therefore, I felt fully invested in all of the characters and enjoyed how they finally cross paths to lead to a happy conclusion.
The author’s introductory note definitely had my anxious nerves tingling, as readers learn that Val losing her precious rings in this book is based on a personal experience. The opening chapter consequently sets up this event and I could feel my anxiety rising, desperate for Val to hold on to her precious treasures. Yet, without this moment, readers would not get the opportunity to meet Sophie on her journey to reconnect with an old flame, Rory and his unexpected divorce, and Alice who is secretly plotting to leave her husband. Cleverly the author connects these characters together and I loved how there is so much warmth between these central people.
Fans of Shari Low will recognise some characters from previous books. I was delighted to read a story with Val as the central character because I have enjoyed seeing her in her other stories. This is still a solo book but I liked knowing a bit more about these repeat characters, having fond recollections of previous Low novels. After all, these characters work so well, what is the harm in recycling them again?!
I have read several books by this author that take place over a small time period with intense actions. Whilst I (thankfully!) did not find it a heart-wrenching tear jerker that others have been, I appreciated the switch between the different view points, meeting together over a couple of days. I think this helped me connect with the characters better, especially as the story felt so emotive with the losing of the rings. It was a lovely read from Low that I enjoyed every step of the way, even if I did hate the prospect of losing something so precious!
With thanks to Boldwood books and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A lot can happen in a weekend. In this new release, Shari Low does what she does best. She gives us people to care about and then connects them. Amazingly, she used a real-life event from her life as the core of this story. There is an extensive cast of characters listed at the beginning of the book, but your focus will be on Val, Alice, Sophie, and Rorie. I love the way Low takes those people and ties them together in expected and unexpected ways.
Thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for a DRC in exchange for an honest review. Happy Publication Day!
Absolutely loved One Long Weekend by Shari Low.
I loved the story and plot line. It’s well written and felt myself connecting with the characters.
This is another beautifully told story with expertly crafted characters that leap right off the page.
Shari Low delivers a touching and thought-provoking story that will stay with readers long after they've turned the last page?
Thank You NetGalley and Boldwood Books for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
One Long Weekend
by Shari Low
An extremely well written book following 4 strangers at difficult times in their lives either by traumatic events /heartbreak or at a crossroads of their life. Once you start to read about the individuals you find they may be strangers but they are linked. The journey they all take over this 3 day weekend. A heartwarming read with a bit of heartache along the way and ultimate friendship. Great page turning read. 4.5/5
Another amazing book from Shari Low could not put it down. I loved the way all the characters were connected but in a way that was easily portrayed loved the humour the sadness and relationships. Highly recommend this book loved every minute and disappointed now as have to find another book which will be hard to match this one.
