This was a cute read with an intriguing premise and characters. Maggie is a photographer for a baseball and gets caught out in seemingly compromising position with their new player Tommy. The teams PR’s solution to make it more wholesome? Pretend they are actually dating. It quickly becomes clear that they aren’t faking their feelings, though.

The fake dating element of this was good, because the premise of it actually felt believable or rather it made sense, whereas often this trope can feel a bit immature or daft. My only issue was that these characters fell in love without me feeling like they truly knew each other or had that much of a connection? I enjoyed it though and would read the next in the series.

What to expect:

- sports romance - baseball player and team photographer
- overcoming heartbreak/loss
- fake dating
- only one bed

I loved Ally Weigand’s debut novel!! What a lovely, heartwarming story.

I enjoy a good baseball romance and this hit the spot. I found Maggie and Tommy to be very relatable and I enjoyed following their journey.

Also fake dating trope has got to be one of my favourites!! A great fun read to pick up and cosy up with your favourite drink!

I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher, via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.

As one of the photographers for the Chicago Cougars, Maggie Redford is in the perfect place for a baseball lover. She loves her work, and being with her best friend, Olivia, and the team, is a dream come true. However, the new player is none other than heartbreaker Tommy Mikals, whose last chance is in Chicago, and if he does anything to damage his reputation further, he will be dropped like that. So when the paparazzi get a shot of Maggie and Tommy leaving a club together, and claim they are a new couple, the only thing that can be done is for the pair to lean into the idea, and run with it. But will their fake romance be one that they can handle, or will their feelings become less forced, and more real?

I wasn't sure what to expect with this book because I know absolutely nothing about baseball. It's not a sport played in the UK, and all I know about it is that it's a bit like rounders and cricket joined together. Even so, as soon as I started this book, I was hooked. Maggie was such a likeable main character, whose love for her friends and family was so plain to see, and her job was so important too. Even if she was attracted to one of the players, she knew that getting involved would risk her job, and she wasn't going to do that, not when it was the only thing that had kept her going after the death of her late husband. She only went along with the plan to rehabilitate Tommy's reputation as a way to help him, and she tried to put up walls that were strong enough to keep him out. But he was persuasive, and had fallen for her from nearly the first moment. Tommy's past reputation wasn't completely true, but he definitely turned it all around when he was with Maggie, and he worked his butt off to prove he was worthy of her, and that she would be safe with him. Honestly, this was such a beautiful book, and I'm glad it's part of a series, as we need to see more of Maggie and Tommy in the future!

This was a really fun and enjoyable book with a lot of depth within our characters. I loved that what started as fake dating became a healing experience for both Maggie and Tommy. I'm looking forward to book two and who that will involve.

4 First Base Stars

First Base is the first book in the Chicago Heartbreakers series by Ally Wiegand. This story weaves together themes of love, loss, and the challenges of maintaining a public image, set against the backdrop of professional baseball.

Maggie Redford, baseball photographer, after losing every is content to watch from the stands, Snapping shots of Chicago’s MLB team. But fate throws a curveball, a twist unforeseen, Tommy Mikals, tattooed hotshot, into the mix. His talent for plays matched by a playboy reputation, Traded teams, seeking redemption, a fresh new beginning.

Although I enjoyed this book and the characters, but it was a little dragged out in the end. I'm looking forward to see where his series goes and will read the next one.

I’m totally smitten with this book! This was such a fun, sweet and wholesome read!

I loved the healing each other vibes! They both were very lost in their own pasts and then forced into a relationship (which was made a little easier due to their curiosity). They really were each other's cheerleader every step of the way.

Was a quick read that I didn't want to put down.

A great debut novel and I’m looking forward to reading more by Ally.

This was a lovely read. The way the author unveiled the past so slowly throughout the story was fantastic. This story shows how healing can be so hard and sometimes you need someone else to help. The relationship between the two MCs is so fun. However the relationship felt a little second place compared to the rest of the story. A bit fluffy but still great!

Big thanks to NetGalley, Embla Books and Ally Wiegand for this early release copy in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. A great sports romance. Fade to black scenes that weren't too explicit. I also enjoyed the depth of the characters and the way they had to overcome their past struggles for the relationship to work.

First Base by Ally Wiegand
⭐️⭐️⭐️

Tropes: fake dating, sports romance, dual POV.

This book follows the story of Maggie and Tommy. Maggie is a photographer for Chicago’s MLB team and Tommy has just been signed by the team. They start off fake dating due to being seen together and their PR wanting to improve Tommy’s image. That is until they start to develop real feelings.

This was a cute read but it just felt like it was lacking something.

I felt like there was miscommunication towards the end and I’m not personally a fan of this.

Overall it was a cute read but I’m undecided if I’d recommend it.

First base- @allywiegandauthor when his image needs help after being kicked out of his last club, the club photography is brought in to be his fake girlfriend after being mistaken as his girlfriend by the paparazzi. But when pretending becomes real they end up catching feelings. I love how he helps her move forward from her past. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The story itself was really cute, but there's quite a few grammatical errors that need fixing.

Definitely a cute little rom com and would reccomend.
