Thank you so much to Joffe Books and NetGalley for an eARC in return for an honest review of "The Wedding Hitch". All of my opinions are honest and mine.
The Wedding Hitch follows our heroine Róisín O’Reilly, who has been with her boyfriend for 10 years. When she cannot have the dream wedding she has wanted, to her surprise, wins a expensed-paid wedding at Sylverley House. The only issue comes after winning this prize, that her boyfriend does not want to go through with a wedding. Heartbroken, Róisín is now on the search for a groom to her dream wedding, all while trying to sort out what life is like after losing the person she's been with for a decade.
I really liked all the characters in the book (maybe not fiancé Nate). Róisín comes off as being earnest, kind, and tenacious. She has a good group of friends that are like family; they are always rallying around one another. I enjoyed the the quirkiness of Róisín's line of work.
I did enjoy the plot, however some areas of the plot were very hyper-focused in, when I was ready to move on. Without giving a lot away, it seemed we got to the happily ever after very rushed for my enjoyment.
Overall, this was a good read, and this would make for a great vacation read.
I really enjoyed this book and liked all the characters in it, but feel the story was underdeveloped. Sadly the romance wasn’t in this book as the characters had jumped straight into it before the reader knew what was happening. Who knows how or why the main characters fell in love, as they seemed to have barely seen or spoken to each other before their embrace. If you can set that aside though, the rest of the story is really good, though the ending is a bit abrupt, as it felt the author was trying to do something with Suzanne, but gave up, so the ending didn’t really explain anything about why she was brought up again, or what would happen to her
Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for an ARC in return for an honest review.

All that’s missing is a way to pay for the wedding of your dreams. At least that’s what Róisin thinks after touring the Slyverley House. After entering a competition for an all expenses paid wedding at Slyverley House, things go from bad to worse. Unfortunately, she finds out that her supposed fiancé never wanted to marry her. With only twelve months to claim her prize, she has to find a new man to marry!
This was filled to the brim with tension. Following in the journey of finding a new groom in one year was fun and kind of intense. I found myself hoping that the two Chester’s I wanted to end up together did. On the other hand, there were one or two characters I didn’t care about at all. Overall, this book was filled to the brim with fun, tension, and love. Will she find Mr. Right before the deadline?
Thank you to Joffe Books and NetGalley for the eARC copy!
‘The Wedding Hitch’ is a charming, light read. The author set a myriad cast of interesting characters, some which kept me giggling or groaning every time they appeared. Lively historic ties and descriptions of Bath and the English countryside.
I wish the romance between the two leads could have played out more - they seem to have fallen in deep love based on looks alone. Not a lot of buildup. But, our lead female is quite lovely and likable.
Sadly, I loved the idea and premise of this book more than I ended up loving the story, although there were other parts that made me really, really like it. I just didn't feel connected to the relationship that Roisin eventually found with Tristan (which is a huge part of the entire story!), it felt like it went from strangers to meeting up at the alter without filling in the gaps on how that relationship developed. That being said, I loved the descriptions of the costumes, the countryside (set it Bath, what could be better!) and the other characters who come into Roisin's life as she sets off on her search to find her groom! The idea of winning a wedding, but then losing the groom, and having only one year to collect the prize is a hilarious premise for a book and I would recommend this one when you are looking for a quick, entertaining read!
I received a free copy of, The Wedding Hitch, by Claire McCauley, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. When planning a wedding, we know the must haves, location, flowers, dresses, tux, and groom of course. Roisin has everything but the groom. Roison won a dream wedding, but her boyfriend does not want to marry her, so she has a year to find a groom, easy right. This is a great beach read. I was rooting for Roisin all the way.
What Roison thinks is a lucky break ends up being the catalyst to changing her life as she knows it. After Nate, her fiancé tells her he had no intentions to marry her, her friend came up with a back up plan. Find a new groom in time to receive her dream wedding. Through many dating mishaps she was at the point of returning to Nate. With her new life she knew there was no going back. This was a fun read with crazy friends, an odd staff of co workers , a cranky boss and his dog , sassy fairy goddaughter and a happy ending. Thank you to NetGalley for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest review .
This book was a miss for me. I loved the wedding location, the whole garment making aspect and the setting, but could not connect with Roisin or Tristan. They meet, they connect (we do not get to see this) and they fall in love (do not get to see this either).
The Wedding Hitch
⭐️-DNF
I attempted to read The Wedding Hitch by Claire McCauley, but unfortunately, I could not bring myself to finish due to my dislike of the FMC and the pacing of the book.
From the beginning, I found it difficult to connect with or sympathize with the FMC as she came off as rude, and that she honestly did not like her fiancé . Their interactions felt forced and stiff, making it hard for me to invest in their story.
The pacing of the story felt off, with events occurring abruptly and without sufficient build-up or explanation after they did occur.
A fun read. The concept wasn’t entirely new but I did enjoy the way it was executed and that many stereotypical plot lines were avoided. I found the stinky cabbage friends slightly insane but otherwise the characters were pretty well rounded and less predictable than you come to expect with this genre. And I liked the historical theme in the background, as well as the different failed prospective husband story lines that came along.
A fantastic Saturday afternoon read. Rosin was in love and won a dream wedding in a beautiful stately home but sadly it all goes very pear shape. She is also a beautiful seamstress of historic costumes and you follow her ups and downs . It is story of good friendship, an amazing Irish family and dreams do come true . I loved it and her god daughter was amazing. A must read..
"The Wedding Hitch" by Claire McCauley is a delightful romantic comedy, following a bride in search of a groom. After a couple of dark thrillers, this was just what the doctor ordered.
Meet Róisín O’Reilly, an Irish woman who designs and crafts historical costumes and lives in Bath. When she wins her dream wedding in a contest offering the venue and all the trimmings at the grand Sylverley House, she is ecstatic. Unfortunately, her fiancé, Nate, isn't keen on marriage to her or at all. After ten years together, Róisín decides enough is enough and leaves him. Now, she has a venue but no groom. What's a woman to do? Go look for one, of course. Easier said than done!
The venue is reserved for only a year, leaving no time to waste. Thus begins a series of disastrous dates that provide comic relief and some cringe-worthy moments. Between searching for a new place to live, going on dates, working, and dealing with her eccentric family, she tries to get her life back on track. She forms connections with the people working at the estate, including the mysterious trust advisor, Tristan Nash, and his dog Bear. We also meet her good friends and her fairy-goddaughter, Esme, a precious six-year-old with cerebral palsy.
I enjoyed this adorable romantic comedy. The only hitch? There wasn't much romance in it or a well-developed relationship. There were hardly any interactions between Róisín and her intended groom, and their relationship lacked depth. It went from zero to 1000 in a heartbeat. All we got was the introduction of the man she had a crush on, with no other reason given for her attraction to him except for his looks, air of mystery, and brooding ways (reminiscent of Mr. Darcy).
The book starts slowly, focusing on descriptions of the estate and fashion. However, it improved after the breakup. I appreciated the setting, the witty banter, and the dating escapades. The issues addressed in the book—caring for a handicapped child, marriage problems, and financial troubles—added depth. Róisín's lively personality endeared her to me, and I found myself rooting for her.
The supporting cast was well-developed, and I felt immersed in the story, participating in the tea parties and experiencing the surroundings. I would have liked to see more interaction between Róisín and her chosen man, but that's a minor complaint. Overall, this was a fun and charming read that I greatly enjoyed. I rate the book 4 out of 5 stars and recommend it to fans of romantic comedies looking for a quick and enjoyable read.
* Thank you NetGalley and (publisher) for the opportunity to read this arc. All opinions are my own.
I loved this romantic comedy! It's set in the English countryside and is a fun and sweet (no spice) story.
Róisín wins a free wedding at her dream location. She rushes to share the news with her fiancé of ten years, only to learn that he doesn't want to marry her. The wedding prize must be redeemed within the year. She leaves her fiancé and, with the help of her friends, starts searching for her future groom. The ending was heartwarming and not what I was expecting.
"The Wedding Hutch" is Clair McCauley's debut novel, and I will definitely add any book she writes to my to-be-read list.
I received an advanced copy of this book for my honest review.
A review has been posted on Goodreads and Storygraph. I will add my review to Amazon after the publication date,
I enjoyed this book so much!! Having a fantastic wedding is all Roisin wants. After she wins the Wedding contest at the Sylverley House she thinks her dreams will come true. However, life has other plans. She has to have the wedding within one year and her fiancée doesn’t really want to get married! McCauley has you rooting for Roisin as she searches for another Mr Right before she runs out of time!

Thank you Net Galley and Joffe Books for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. Based off the description I was really looking forward to getting into this book. . .but I really struggled to connect with the characters from the start. There was a major disconnect with the main characters and the writing style did not pull me in. As the book progressed the story did get better and the hints of comedy relief did entertain. This book was fine, but just not my cup of tea.
3* A slow start improving towards the end.
On hearing that she's won an all expenses paid, fancy wedding, Róisín O’Reilly's long term boyfriend Nate announces that he doesn’t want to get married, in fact his proposal was unintentional. What’s a girl to do, she has a free wedding but an unwilling fiancé. Answer, goodbye Nate. Her dream wedding prize stays valid for one year, all she needs is a groom. This sounds as if the groom won't be the one, more the one who’ll do, I felt very uncomfortable by her attitude.
In her man search Róisín resorts to Internet dating, with disastrous results, her speed dating experience was just as bad, but funny for the reader.
I could never quite connect with the main characters, most of the time they were aloof with each other. For a book billed as a romcom, there was very little romance, or comedy. I didn't hate the book, it just wasn't for me.
eARC generously supplied by Choc-Lit/Joffe Books and NetGalley, this review is my personal, unbiased opinion.
These characters were just unlikeable and tbh you can tell from the first chapter that these two should not be getting married and its even a wonder how they end up in that situation. The writing was not for me and the execution could have been better. '
The story of this book was fun and had good potential. I really enjoyed getting to know about Roisin and her background as well as her friends. Unfortunately the book overall missed the mark for me. It felt as though the first portion of the book was slow and dragged on and then the last 30 pages were rushed. Our main character falls in love with Tristan but why? I feel we never got to really see his character develop and with that their relationship. Aside from one random kiss they shared we never really see why they got there or what drew them truly together. It would have been nice to have a little build up of their relationship starting and what drew them together. The lack of knowledge about Tristan and his interactions with her almost make it feel rushed and lacking. The story overall was fun to read and more character development would have made this a good book!
I had been so interested in the blurb of this book the second I saw it and so was very excited to read it. I love when there is such a smart and original idea.
Róisín is recently engaged to Nate, after years of dating. Unfortunately she dreams of a big wedding in an historical estate, but they don’t have the means for it. When she wins a competition to organise her wedding in the estate of her dream, Nate admits he doesn’t actually want to get married and have kids. Instead, decides to find another groom within the 12 months she has to organise the wedding as her prize.
As a whole, I quite liked the story and the development. However it often felt like the pacing of the story was a bit too slow for me, but somehow the end and who Róisín ended up still felt rushed? I also found Róisín’s relationship with her mother and sister so very frustrating and with no real resolution in the end, whereas it really needed some improvement.
Despite the above I did really like the ending, which was a smart, lovely and unexpected.
