Thank you so much for letting me read to this audiobook. I very much enjoyed the banter between the protagonists and the magical animals.
just some of the timejumps were a bit abrupt.

I haven't listened to audiobooks by Jessica Threet before but I think it was really easy listening to and she was able to change her voice for the characters. It was also easy to listen to when I adjusted the speed of the audiobook.

This was such a delightful read with a lesbian couple, a whole lot of tea, a few stabbings, griffins and dragons. Not sure what else you need in a fantasy book! Although this is described as a cozy fantasy book it still manages to have lots of action, thrill, danger and a few mysteries to solve.

Reyna finally decides to run away from her dangerous life as a bodyguard for the Queen with her love, Kianthe, to set up a cozy tea shop somewhere. Kianthe also happens to be a powerful mage with duties of her own. They find themselves in Tawney, a small town where they begin to build a life for themselves, but that only lasts until the Queen's guards begin to search for the traitor, Reyna.

I found this a really easy read and I loved the found family in Tawney. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review.

Can't Spell Treason Without Tea written by Rebecca Thorn and narrated by Jessica Threet is an original, fun, fantasy which explores new definitions of the genre of cozy/ fantasy/ adventure

Jessica Threet is a fantastic narrator and I really enjoyed their performance in this book. Threet is versatile and gives each character depth and individual idiosyncracies that just work in defining their personalities

I have not read anything by Rebecca Thorn or indeed anything like this before. I love me a cozy mystery and Tea is my main food group, so this was a potential win for me and tbh, it did not disappoint.

Did it make me smile, yes. Did it have a lot of heartwarming moments and squishies? Yes. Did it have an utterly adorable paranormal pet? Oh very much yes (seriously a chirruping gryphon, what's not to love) Was it a good start to a series that left a lot to build on, absolutely!

I really like that Thorn is defining her own space in cozy fantasy. There is always going to be edges when categorising, so I sometimes find it easier to embrace these books as the crossovers and genre building that they are. Yes, Cozy Fantasy is a good starting point, but also adventure, sapphic romance, romantasy, paranormal fantasy and more. The one category I would certainly put it in in my library, is "very enjoyable and one to keep an eye out for"

Thank you very much to Netgalley, Macmillan UK Audio | Tor, the author Rebecca Thorne and narrator Jessica Threet for this fantastic ALC. My review is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own

This book delivers on what it promises: a cute cozy fantasy story about a runaway guard and an all-powerful mage opening a bookshop.

The relationship between Reyna and Kianthe? Was really sweet and wholesome and the story was entertaining.

If you’re looking for a palette cleanser between more serious/ stressful books this is the one to pick up!

4/5

Thank you Macmillan for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review.

This was so sweet! I had such a nice time reading this book, it's astoundingly comforting, another brilliant cosy fantasy! It's incredibly reminiscent of Legends & Lattes but also defined enough to be uniquely its own tale. If you loved L&L or other books within the cosy fantasy subgenre, I'm sure you'll love this book too.

The characters were engaging and I loved that we followed an established sapphic relationship as they tried to escape the pressures of their lives to create something wholly new. I loved watching them try to make their dreams become their reality, I loved that they were prepared to fight for their peace.

There were many intriguing factors in the world-building, and the supporting characters were lively and fun. It's just such a good time. More cosy sapphic fantasy will never be a bad thing!

Really fun and cosy fantasy - perfect for fans of Travis Baldree. I love that the stakes in this book felt high whilst the cosiness took over - can’t wait for the hardback.

Cozy fantasy is my new obsession. And who doesn't know the feeling when you're a powerful warrior or mage and just want to get to a distant place to open a book shop? I mean...right?
I was in the mood of letting the cozy just wash over me, and the audiobook was absolutely perfect for this. (And it also holds bonus content, which is great because once you're in the world, you don't wanna leave it so soon). The story though is not just books and tea, there's also dragons, griffons, pirates, evil queens and kickass side characters.
This book has everything you want from a cozy fantasy story, including sapphic romance where they care for each other and themselves.

4/5 stars but 6/5 for the cozy

Thank you @netgalley and @macmillan.audio for the eARC!

Stunning cozy Fantasy Novel that I loved in both audiobook and physical book form. Takes you away from your daily problems into a cozy town; the narrator manages to set the scene perfectly. Still has some stakes (which is why I prefer to other cozy fantasies), but nothing too dire. An absolute favourite.

This was super cosy, I loved the characters from the start. I mean, fantasy characters opening up a super cute bookstore come tea shop?? We’re talking cosy arm chairs and a fireplace always ready to welcome you. Can I step into the book please? I mean sure, it comes with a few bandits and troublesome dragons but that’s a risk I’m willing to take.

Reyna and Kianthe, a queens guard and a mage, dream of a gentler life. I don’t blame them for wanting to flee a life of danger and death, but can they truly escape? It seems danger is keen to follow close on their heels…

My audiobook was wonderful with a great narration but I really think a juicy physical copy would be even more worth it. I think the feeling of slipping into the pages would add to the immersion and sense of cosiness. But the vibes travelled through the sound waves and the audiobook did a great job at conveying the story and allowing you an easy immersive experience.

I loved this and it was great from the start. I hope there’s a follow up as it was a setting that you instantly want to return to. 5/5 easy. (Also the end chapter as a separate short story for how they both met was adorable and an absolute cherry on the top of this book cake).

Can't Spell Treason Without Tea is the perfect mix of some of my favourite things, cozy fantasy, sapphic romance, political intrigue, griffons and dragons!! We follow our sapphic couple as they decide to give up their old lives - a queens guard and a mage - to open a book store/cafe in a small town. The characters in this book were some of my favourites, they were well developed and added just the right amount of depth to some of the more action packed scenes. Within the audiobook, the voice actor really made all their emotions and reacts so vivid but I would've like to have this audiobook a duet as we do alternate POVs!

Wow, this was such a wholesome read. I went into this completely blind and really enjoyed myself! Cosy fantasy is slowly but surely becoming one of my favourite sub genres and this book is no exception! This book has everything you’ll ever need:

🫖found family
🫖magic
🫖DRAGONS!!!
🫖sapphic romance

I adored the characters, Reyna and Kianthe have my whole heart! It was refreshing to have their relationship already established at the beginning & see them both grow throughout the story.

The found family aspect of this story really warmed my heart and I grew attached to every character, they all felt so well developed and individual - i especially am invested in Feo and Wylan (I need more of them both asap).

I have to mention the narrator because she did a fantastic job! Each character was so well executed and their own personality. I really feel as though the audiobook bought the story alive.

I’m supper excited to see where this story goes (especially with the dragons) and I hope we see more of these characters!

After hearing so much about this book, I was really excited to finally be diving in. Admittedly, I don't have a great deal of experience with cosy fantasy, but I have ADORED the cosy fantasies I have read so far.
Unfortunately, I don't think this one was particularly for me. I loved the characters and how different they were, but I wasn't a huge fan of the world created. It was intriguing, but not really for me.
I thought the writing was great, and while I would 100% recommend this book to other people, I just feel it wasn't for me.
I will also mention that I thought the narrator was phenomenal!!! The different accents were spot on and I felt really immersed in the story!

I first read this book back in 2022 when it was independently published, and I'd just got into the world of Cosy Fantasy and wanted MORE!! I only rated it a 3/5 which I do think was very unfair, and I'd have to blame it on reading it initially just after reading Legends & Lattes which has a lot of similar elements but the world is a little less fleshed out than this book. Reyna is a Queen's guard (ignore for now the fact that the queen is a psycho) and her girlfriend Kianthe is basically the head sorceror in the world. After being threatened by an assassin and basically told to shake it off Reyna escapes the palace and her nutball boss to go and start a book/tea shop in a remote town. There are a lot of side characters in this book who add to the feeling of community in Tawny, and the cooperation and friendliness that they're trying to build. There are several side stories that expand into the other books in the series (I'm guessing from the sneak peek at book 2 and where the plans were left at the end of this book anyway!). I'm really glad I gave this book another chance, I enjoyed the story a lot more when not comparing it so heavily and I'd say it's a 4.5 star read. The audiobook narrator does a great job of differentiating the characters and I liked the English acent for the Queendom citizens.
