It has romance at the heart of the story
Violet and Henry met at the garden of the Orange House in Majorca 20 years ago and quickly fell in love
A year later they have their son, Luke and although young they soon become a solid family unit while renovating the Orange House
But as the years pass, cracks in the relationship appear
They are now on the brink of divorce - will this summer be their final together or can they embark on a new beginning
Sensitively written, very thought provoking and emotional.
Particularly loved Luke’s girlfriend, Eliza who stemmed to glue the family together even when they were constantly arguing
Thanks @isabelle-broom @hodderbooks @netgalley for the emotional read

A lovely story set in Mallorca where Henry and Violet met and bought a house but can the one last trip save their 20 year marriage or will it be the end for them? Great beach read especially with the island backdrop which definitely makes you want to go there

Isabelle Broom has once again transported her readers to another exotic location, this time it is Mallorca where it is set, with beautiful colourful descriptions of island life.

This is another well written, compelling and thought provoking story touching on the effects mental health has on the people around them. With well-drawn and likeable characters it is a story that will whisk you away to the Spanish sunshine and warm your heart.

The Orange House is set on the beautiful islamd of Mallorca and provides the backdrop for the story of Henry and Violet and their 20 year relationship.
Henry and Violet met and fell in love on the island in fact in the very grounds of the gorgeous house they now own. However now their marriage lies in tatters and they have to decide whether to walk away or if they can find their way back to each other.. I absolutely lived this book.

Isabelle Broom whisks you away to the sun-drenched island of Majorca in her new book The Orange House.

The spirit and beauty of the island is captured on the pages, making the book come alive and pulling you into the story.

This is an emotional journey for Violet and Henry whose son Luke is dealing with metal health issues, but this is dealt with in a very sensitive manner.
However, while the setting and character development are exceptional, the pacing of the novel occasionally felt slow, with some sections dragging slightly, but that could be down to my impatience to know what was going to happen!

Fans of emotional, character-driven stories set against stunning backdrops will find much to love in this book.

A solid four-star read!

This book was a lovely, gentle summer read that I read whislt the UK summer had disappeared, so the settings and locations of warmer climates were very welcome.
I enjoyed the fact that this book was set in the present day with Violet's perspective, and then the memories were from Henry's.
It was well written and kept me gripped as to what had gone wrong with their relationship.
The story took us on a journey of Henry and Violet meeting, through every day life troubles, of them on the brink of divorce and then left us wondering if they can come back from this.

The book covers very deep and thoughtful subjects. Most of the book is told from Violet‘s POV. However there are chapters from Henry’s POV that were set in the past and continually showed how their relationship slowly became

Many situations were just implied and it took rather long for all pieces of the story to fall into place - which made it dragging at times.

I can recommend it to all who like a complex yet very intriguing read, set in a gorgeous location. However it is not the usual easy going escapist fiction that I first expected.

Slightly different from Isabelle's usual writing
A story that definitely needs exploring
Tough subject matter that is rarely covered - Isabelle did this beautifully capturing emotion and depth of character that is so difficult to explain

A must read

I’m always instantly drawn in to Isabelle’s stories as she transports you directly to where the book is set - in this case, the island of Mallorca. It’s so easy to picture yourself there, among the characters because her writing is so immersive.

I have to say I was gripped at the beginning, and found the first half of the book very enjoyable and easy to read. But my attention from then on did start to dwindle and I wasn’t reaching to pick it up as much as I’d have liked.

It was refreshing to read a middle aged couple dynamic who are on the brink of divorce, and how they navigate their way through many struggles and challenges. Henry and Violet’s son also struggles with mental health issues and this was portrayed sensitively throughout. I have always championed Isabelle’s books ever since I read and fell in love with My Map Of You. This one somehow feels a little different from her other novels, so maybe it’s me and my creature comforts 🤣 but I just didn’t love it compared to some of her previous books.

The Orange House by Isabelle Broom is a beautifully written, thought provoking summer read that I found captivating from the very first page right up until the last page had been turned.

The Orange House tells the story of Violet and Henry who, after twenty years together, are now on the cusp of divorce. Set against the backdrop of the beautiful island of Mallorca, the estranged couple come together to discuss the sale of The Orange House, the place they fell in love in and rebuilt together. But now, with their marriage in tatters, is it about to be the place where their life together ends?

Set mainly in the present but with flashbacks to the past, we learn of what has happened to bring them to this point. Their nineteen year old son, Luke, has travelled to Mallorca with his girlfriend, his relationship with his parents, especially his mother, clearly a difficult one, fraught with tension.

Twenty years ago The Orange House brought Violet and Henry together. Now, will it be the reason they part? Or will it prove to be the catalyst that brings this fractured family together once more?

The Orange House is a complex, multilayered and thought provoking read with characters that, I have to admit, were sometimes difficult to like, but who I couldn’t help but grow to love as the story progressed. A stunning, sensitively written tale that touches on fragile family relationships and the minefield that is mental health, this is a book that I know will stay with me for some time to come.

Isabelle Broom has written a beautiful, note perfect summer read that I wouldn’t hesitate to highly recommend.

The cover & description drew me in, because what's not to love about a relationship set in a villa in the sunshine on a beautiful island? But the relationship between Violet and Henry has not been without it's ups and downs, will they end up having to sell their beloved villa or will they rekindle their romance - this I couldn't wait to find out, so I managed to devour this beautiful story curled up on my sofa on a rainy afternoon. Loved it

A heartbreaking read. Took me some time to get into the story but glad I persevered.

An emotional tale of a family full of secrets and misunderstandings

A slight change to this author’s usual style. It was a pretty challenging read and at times it was so sad and angsty that I very nearly gave up.

Thought provoking certainly regarding mental illness.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my review.

The Orange House is mainly set on the Island of Mallorca, which I just happened to visit in May this year. This is where Henry and Violet met and fell in love. They then spent their summer holidays restoring it to make it their perfect home. Their son Luke is complex and has problems that cause Violet very protective of him, often to the detriment of her marriage. The house however offers a place of sanctuary for them all.
Now in the present, Henry and Violet have drifted apart and they return to the Orange House in order to sell it as divorce looks like the only option for their failing marriage.
I thoroughly enjoyed this 5 star story and found it a perfect summery read. My thanks to Net Galley and Publishers for the advanced copy.

Such a lovely novel, and one I was completely immersed in.

Henry and Violet met in the gardens of The Orange House on the island of Mallorca and it was the beginning of their love story. They renovated the house together and created wonderful memories there along with Luke, their son - but, as often happens their marriage is now crumbling and things are not amicable. This is their story, told both in the present and the past.

I've always enjoyed this author's work and this is a wonderfully enjoyable story which easily transports the reader to the sunshine island - and with the lack of anything resembling a summer in Scotland this year, that was very welcome indeed. Beautifully written with a fine cast of characters, this was a book which pulled me in from the beginning and kept me there to the very end. A terrific tale of love and family and one I'm happy to recommend. 4.5*.

My thanks to the publisher for my copy via NetGalley; this is - as always - my honest, original and unbiased review.

Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

I enjoyed this book by Isabelle Broom,

We follow the story of a family, the parents are about to get divorced. We read about what happened in the past as well as what’s happening now and how they both got to this stage of their relationship.

The story covered a strong issue which was handled sensitively.

I recommend this book.

New author for me, I was taken with this book from start The House was in an amazing setting and I could just picture it in my minds eye. Henry and Violet and their failing marriage and how they journey back to The Orange House to finalise their relationship.
My thanks as always to NetGalley and to Hodder Stoughton for the early read

The Orange House felt a little different from Isabelle Broom’s previous novels as it’s not a straightforward boy-meets-girl story with all the fun of watching and hoping that two people will get together. Instead the boy and girl – or man and woman really – had already met, fallen in love and their relationship had fallen apart. This is the story of Violet and Henry who met in Mallorca when they were very young, fell madly in love and had a child, Luke, who is now a troubled young man.

Most of the story is told in the present day from the first person perspective of Violet. She has returned to Mallorca as Henry wants to sell their beloved family home and she is very conflicted about this. Interspersed with the present day story are chapters from Henry’s point of view. They shine a light on their relationship through the years giving a snapshot, one year at a time, of significant moments in their marriage. There is a strong focus on their parenting of Luke whose behavioural issues and anxiety perhaps point to his being neurodivergent. I thought this was a really clever way of showing what happened to Violet and Henry and built up a really full picture of the complications of their lives.

This is a insightful portrait of the marriage of two damaged, angry and hurting people, Isabelle Broom has captured all their emotions brilliantly and shows the highs and lows of family life and parenting. We see that Henry and Violet were, and still are, very much in love but that constantly coping with or anticipating the difficulties presented by their son led them to almost lose their way in weariness. I expect that this is something many parents will identify with.

The Orange House is a rich family drama full of tension, loss, forgiveness and hope. At its heart, it is a story about love in its many different forms and how it can be tested to the limits yet survive to become stronger than ever.
