What a great book and the start of a great series which I have now read in succession. Milla Graham returns home to Raven's Edge to find it all seems much the same. But wait, there is a woman's body found in and old manor house which brings back the unsolved case of her mothers death. This is a book that hooked my from page one and I have enjoyed reading this one and the series so far.

This is a cosy murder mystery and it kept me enthralled and turning the pages. It is an easy book to read, has the depth you want with the cosiness you need. Loving the characters and the village setting and feel. This book kept me reading and before I knew it I was done and onto the next one. I do like a book that does that for me. Interesting, intriguing, thrilling, cosy. It has it all.

Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

If you like your mysteries with a bit of mystery and wrapped up in a mystery, then Murder at Raven's Edge might be the mystery for you.

At its beginning, Detective Ben Taylor is driving home during a storm when he almost crashes into a woman, Milla Graham, walking in the middle of the road. The next day, he's called to a disturbing crime scene where a woman identified as Milla Graham is found dead in an abandoned house. The trouble? The woman in the house is definitely not the woman he met the night before.

Author Louise Marley has absolutely no problem plopping all the information about this dysfunctional case—the clues, the drama, the investigating—and letting the reader sift through them. The result is a wholly satisfying mystery where I practically felt like part of the case, and certainly sympathized with Ben's own confusion over who exactly Milla Graham was/is. Marley drops a lot of information early, yet I found myself continually guessing (often wrong) about what would happen next. Add in chapters told from rotating perspectives and a plot involving Milla's long-lost connection to a prominent local family and their own suspicions about her true identity, and Marley kept me feeling like I was never going to solve this one. Still, it left me entertained rather than frustrated. It's an ingenious balancing act on her part.

Part of this is because of Ben, an unorthodox detective with a complicated past. It's a genre-old trope, but Marley keeps him feeling fresh thanks in part to his relationship with plucky work partner Harriet. They're an amusing team, even if Ben's more tempted to spend time with Milla—whoever she is. Add in a host of familial conflict and an atmospheric English-village backdrop and there's plenty to keep you occupied even when you're sure you have no idea what twist is behind the next page.

It's complicated. It keeps you guessing. It's a brilliantly fun mystery.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Murder At Raven's Hollow' by Louise Marley.

This is the third book I have read by this author. It is also the third book in Louise's 'An English Village Mystery' series but can be read as a standalone. I have also read 'Murder At Raven's Edge' and 'Murder At Ravenswood House' which are the first two books in the series and I would also highly recommend them both. .

This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions that leave you hearing the chickens clucking, Jake barking and it most definitely leaves you wanting to visit!!! The cover and synopsis suit the book perfectly.

Yet another fantastic success Louise Marley!! Such an easy, fun and addictive cosy mystery that had me hook, line and sinker!!!

This book is yet another brilliant addition to Louise's absolutely addictive 'An English Village Mystery'!! i absolutely fell in love with this series after reading the first book which is called 'Murder At Raven's Edge'. Each of the books in this series can be read as a standalone and although I would not typically recommend reading books out of order there is a silver lining of doing so!! If you end up reading a later book in a series prior to the previous ones when you have finished it means you can go back and catch up on the previous books while waiting for the next book to come out! Louise has ticked every single box in this series from absolutely stunning locations to an isolated house, gorgeous cats to authors and book lovers, murder to romance, there is nothing more you could ask for when it comes to brilliant cosy mysteries! In this absolute page turner Louise transports us to the beautiful village of Raven's Edge where we meet DS Harriet March. Harriet lives in the apartment above the local florist Foxglove And Hemlock. She is enjoying a rare day off when she bumps into the owners of the florist Amelia Locke and Gabriel Fox where they are sorting their disaster of a garden out. Amelia is in what is left of the glasshouse when she comes across some bones. Amelia thinks they are dog bones and is carefully digging them up until Harriet realises they are actually human remains! Harriet calls her boss DI Ben Taylor and a murder investigation is opened. We also meet Iris Evergreen who is a famous author who has just moved into the isolated Raven's Hollow where she is trying to hide away from something from her past. However, Iris is also trying to find out more about her family and goes around Raven's Hollow asking if anyone recognises her father from a photo she was given. If that is not enough to sink your teeth into Louise also gives us chapters from 25 years previously with an unknown protagonist. Can Harriet and Ben discover the identity of their victim let alone get them justice? When a second body turns up are the cases linked? Will Iris find out more about her past or will her past come back to haunt her? To find out the answers to these and so much more grab your copy today and I can promise you will not regret it!! You may even discover a new favourite book, series and/or author!! With a storyline ram packed with mystery, family, flowers, murder, romance, crime, books, stunning surroundings, coffee, twists and turns, a gorgeous cat called Binx, amazing and unforgettable characters and more what on Earth are you waiting for?? This book, and series, is truly addictive, intriguing and will leave you wanting more!! Louise is an incredible author whose incredible vivid and emotive writing skills and descriptions really brings Raven's Edge, the characters and drama to life in front of your eyes. She weaves the multiple protagonists and timelines together absolutely perfectly drip feeding the reader the information she wants without giving too much away! I absolutely loved reading this book and the previous books which take place in such a beautiful and unique village. It genuinely felt like I had disappeared on holiday for the day. It was a shame it was only a day but that's how long it took me to zoom through the pages after not being able to put it down. I genuinely felt like I was in the storyline and I was devastated to come to the end and have to "unpack my suitcase". This series is one of the best ones I have ever read and I love getting stuck into the mysteries with Harriet and Ben each and every time .The storyline is multi-layered with mystery upon mystery to keep the reader completely absorbed throughout without a moment to get bored. The fact that it was filled with books, book talk, mystery, an author and a cute cat was right down my street being a huge book and animal lover myself. It is one of those immense books that each and every time I told myself just one more chapter I just had to read yet one more to know what was going to happen next, and then another until before I know it I had devoured the whole book in just a few hours.

Although this is the third book in the series I would have had absolutely no problems reading it without the first book. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.

Grab your copy and join Harriet and Ben on their murder mystery, investigations, coffee drinking, banter and more where there's a mix of romance, secrets, drama, amazing characters, murder, mayhem and so much more mixed in!! You genuinely couldn't ask for anything else in a fantastic cosy crime!!! This is yet another fantastic addition to this addictive series! ! I was not expecting the killer twist so a huge congratulations there!!! I have read so many books it seems to be getting harder and harder to shock me but you definitely managed it after leading me down the garden path several times!! This is an absolutely fantastic, page turning and fun cosy crime series that can be read in any order. I would love to see them all turned into movies and I cannot wait to get into Louise's next fantastic success!!!

Do not pick this up until you have cleared your schedules as you will not be able to put it down!!

I absolutely LOVED meeting Ben and Harriet again along with several of the villagers and new characters such as Iris and everyone else who makes this cosy mystery series perfect the way it was again. I became completely invested in each of the characters and Louise portrays village life and characters into the first book in this series 'Murder At Raven's Edge' and they all, well almost all, quickly became friends that I miss each and every time I finish the book. I really clicked with Ben and Harriet immediately who were a perfect choice for this cosy mystery. I have loved watching all of the friendships and relationships develop and I'm looking forward to watching them continuing to do so. I am looking forward to meeting them all again in the next book in this fantastic series and seeing how all the friendship and relationships with the characters develop!!! An amazing group of string and realistic characters that jump out of the pages and I look forward to meeting time and time again. A fantastic group of unique and strong personalities!!

Congratulations Louise on an yet another absolutely addictive book in this absolutely page turning series!!! Here's to a fantastic and many more successes 🥂

Overall an addictive cosy mystery set in a stunning area that you won't be able to put down!!

Milla Graham is determined to uncover her roots after returning home to Raven’s Edge. She had been gone for eighteen years but now that she is back, she begins a relentless pursuit for answers. As soon as Miller is returned home, Detective Ben Taylor is called to the scene when the body of a woman is discovered. Milla wants to know what happened to her mother all those years ago, and will Milla find the truth she has always craved, no matter how painful?

Why is there a trail of dead bodies growing? Milla’s new in town. Dead bodies are being found. No way this is a coincidence as far as Ben is concerned.

Meanwhile Ben Taylor is a policeman just trying to do his job. Finding Milla at the center of what is going on, he is also driven by distraction by how much he is drawn to her. While Ben is working within the bounds of his job, Willa relentlessly looks for answers.

Murder at Raven’s Edge is a wonderful first book in a new cozy mystery series. An easy read, likable characters and an intriguing story. Next book in line for me is Murder at Ravenswood House.

Many thanks to Storm Publishing and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

When Milla Graham returns to her childhood home of Raven's Edge after eighteen long years away, she finds the perfect English village looks much the same – all rose-covered cottages, nosy neighbours, and chintzy teashops full of scones and gossip.
If only the village was so romantic, unfortunately there are dark goings on. Ben is the detective in charge of investigating a murder which relates to Milla who is a newcomer.
Milla becomes a person of interest, she is herself investigating who killed her mother many years previousl, and the killings might have be linked.
I enjoyed the book but the storyline initially struck me as being hastily created, too much initial attraction and trusting in strangers. I didn't really take to Milla as a character but I will read book 2 and see where it goes. The mystery itself was good but a bit obvious, however the writing itself is promising and worth 4 stars.Thank you Netgalley and Storm for an ARC of this book.

Murder at Raven's Edge
An unputdownable English cozy murder mystery (An English Village Mystery Book 1)

General Fiction \(Adult\)| Mystery & Thrillers

Storm Publishing and Netgalley sent me a copy of Murder at Raven's Edge to review:

Milla Graham returns to Raven's Edge after 18 years away to discover that the perfect English village remains the same - all rose-covered cottages, nosy neighbors, and chintzy tearooms.

When a body is discovered in an abandoned manor house on the edge of the forest, her nostalgic visit takes a darker turn. A chilling parallel can be drawn between the murder scene and the death of Milla's own mother, whose death was never solved. It's not long before Milla realizes that this cute village holds some dark secrets as she begins to investigate the connection.

Policeman Ben Taylor doesn't believe in coincidences, and he doesn't believe the mysterious newcomer Milla Graham is as innocent as she appears. Is she really here in Raven's Edge, and why does she appear at his crime scenes so often? Can he solve this murder case without losing himself - or his heart - to the rather distracting Miss Graham?

When another body is found, everyone becomes a suspect, including Milla Graham herself. It seems that not everyone in Raven's Edge is as friendly or innocent as they first appear.

I give Murder at Raven’s Edge five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

What a cute little mystery story this was. It had some slow moments but im used to short stories that are to the point lol. If you dont mind a slow burn then this is definitely worth the read. If you are on the fence on slow burns i would say give it a try and push through because the overall story is worth it.

Really gripping, thoroughly enjoyable! I really enjoyed this book and enjoyed the author’s style.

A great find!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I adored the opening chapter, a raging storm plus Ben and his heartbreaking personal life combined with knocking over a stranger set the tone for the book perfectly.

I loved how lovely Raven’s Edge was described as being, it sounds a lovely place to live apart from the obviously high crime rate.

I instantly warmed to Ben and Harriet because they are the dream duo, so different but they work well together. I was intrigued about Ben and his past because he kept thinking about it, but Milla I was unsure of all the way through and I couldn’t connect with her until near the end

The case was complex to say the least and it took me about a third of the way through to figure out who Milla was but obviously that was the authors intention and we found out the truth at the same time as Milla and Ben did.

The last quarter of the book was my absolute favourite and I felt like that book really came into its own and I’ll definitely be reading the second book.

Thank you netgalley and Storm Publishing for this arc.

18 year old murder, family secrets, possible identity fraud, all in a fairy tale like small town.

I really enjoyed this one. I liked the plot and all the twists and turns. It kept you engaged and turning the pages to get to the end. Definitely will read book 2 of this series.

5 stars

What an excellent and very cleverly written mystery! It was, in all actuality, a mystery within a mystery. With the constant question throughout, is this Milla Graham really the true Milla Graham? Is this truly the same person as the little girl who supposedly died in a house fire, or is this an imposter? Detective Ben Taylor is tasked with sorting this all out and solving a murder.

There is so much going on with this mystery and plenty of red herrings to keep you guessing until the end. This was very enjoyable and a fantastic start to a new series!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

A cozy mystery with intriguing characters and a little bit of humour set a whimsical little town steeped in witchy history.

Our detective Ben Taylor and out heroine of sorts Milla Graham share a bit of a cat and mouse relationship after he gives her a place to stay one stormy night only to discover after she left that she is somehow involved in the death of someone who bears an uncanny resemblance to her.

This story is steeped in family secrets, deceit and all round skullduggery. Is Milla really who she says she is? Could the past secrets from Ravens Edge have any bearing on the recent murders?
All will be revealed and in good time, I really loved this book and dove right in and found myself looking intrigued by Milla from the get go.

This is the 1st of2 of The Raven's Edge and I did find there were too many characters in this story, Milla Graham returns home after 18yrs to find the murderer of her mother who was murdered and the house burnt down, but Milla survived only to be re-invented as her cousin who was killed in the fire.
Milla is a compulsive liar, who will break into property and take money but according to her, she borrows it as she leaves an IOU.
Ben Taylor is the local detective inspector and when there is an actual murder and that's when he gets involved with Milla but what can he believe as he finds out she can just spin yarns that come out of her mouth full of pelt
I was not keen on this type of novel I don't mind cozy-style novels but when too many characters are in play you end up going back and forth to make sure you read it right.
I also have the other book Murder at Ravenswood House which I read before this one and again found quite a few discrepancies but will read it.

Loved this book, thoroughly enjoyable read based on fairy tales and children’s stories.

Milla Graham returns to her childhood home after 18yrs and has some vague memories of the places she has been but tries to work it all out. Inspector Ben Graham has the case that maybe linked to Millas mother, Rosemary.

Lots of twists and secrets and lots of lies and truths but it’s all misleading. Good cast of characters, great setting and looking forward to the next one

Thank you to Netgalley and Storm Publishing

When a body is discovered in an abandoned manor, Milla's nostalgic visit to her childhood home of Raven's Edge takes a bit of a turn. The mystery deepens with the revealing of the village's dark secrets.
A complicated tale that took a while to get into but developed into a delightful cozy mystery.

Milla returns to her childhood home, her mother was killed there and she was wanting to find out the truth. Sometimes the truth is not worth it. Ben has crashed into something, he didn’t think it would be a person. When a body is found the same way as Milla’s mother was killed the mystery starts to unfold.

I liked this mystery, written well and a great plot line. The characters were good to read about and really liked Milla’s story. This was the first book in this new series and look forward to the next book.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy.

A complicated but fascinating book which I did not like at first but which just kept getting better. The story is complex as is Milla. In the end I could not put the book down. I highly recommend.

It is a lovely story! I like this cozy English mystery. As the story develops, I find myself dreaming. Yes, I suggest you read this book before the next one in the series. You will find yourself in a very, very funny and nice story. I recommend this book!

Thank you to Rachel at RaRa Resources and the publisher for sending my review copy of the book and for inviting me to take part on the blog tour.

Wow, Murder at Raven’s Edge had more twists than a twisty thing and I’m sill not entirely sure I understood some of it but it definitely kept me interested and entertained throughout!

We first meet Ben and Milla on a cold stormy evening, Ben nearly runs over Milla and that is the start of their frosty relationship. Milla is quite standoffish and I wasn’t really sure what to make of her to begin with. She is confusing, a liar and it’s hard to keep track of what is the truth and what is made up! Deep down, you realise that she didn’t have the most conventional upbringing and you soon realise that she has returned to Raven’s Edge for a reason. When a woman is found dead in the derelict manor house, reminiscent of the death of Milla’s own mother, you soon start to think that her return and the events are linked – how though?

Very fairytale-ish, the creepy house in the forest is a homage to the scary fairytales you heard as a child and it doesn’t let up there.

The mystery with the Graham family and the previous murders are plotted very intricately and I had to go back a few times to get everyone straight in my head. The twists were something that I did not get which is always a good sign for me – I like to be bamboozled and then think ‘arghhh, I did not see that!’ and this is exactly what happened with the ending for me!

Is Milla really the dead Camilla as she claims? What really happened to the family all those years ago – you will have to read to find out!
