In SUPER FRENEMIES! Chester tries to protect his friend Simon the ghost and accidentally ends up in a dangerous situation. To save him, Simon is forced to team up with Amie, one of Chester’s friends, to make things right again. This requires that Simon and Amie, who aren’t fond of each other, put aside their differences and come up with a way to work together towards their shared goal of reuniting with Chester.
The latest installment in this early graphic novel series provides young readers with the same signature humor and heart found in the first books, as well as an example of how to navigate complicated friendship issues. While Simon is a ghost, the scares in the story are light. The enduring friendship between the duo continues to be the true star of the stories.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sharing an eARC of the book with me.
I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Super Frenemies! is a fast- paced and action packed story about how two unlikely allies must put off differences and work together to save their friend. The art and storyline are adorable funny and sweet like the rest of the series.
This was fantastic and unexpectedly emotional.
Simon and Chester are great characters and this was a great book on what happens when friends don't agree, and what one will do when that friend is in danger, even working with someone one views as one's enemy. And that ending...just WOW.
I would recommend reading book #4 before this one as it sets this one up perfectly [from the samples I have seen; I was unable to find it to read myself, which was disappointing], though it is snot strictly necessary - this is easily enjoyed as a standalone read.
I loved this one and highly recommend it!!
Thank you to NetGalley, Cale Atkinson, and Penguin Random House Canada/Tundra Books for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Aw, the ending of this story was so sweet, Davey and Stanley back together again.
I enjoyed this book much more than book #4 because everyone was able to see how the errors of their ways. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series to see what happens next with Amie and her family.
I love these books. I love the individual stories and the connections throughout them. My son and I have been worried about Amie's dad since we found out and I was glad the story continued. Honestly, these are just so good that if my son ever tells me he's outgrown them, I think I'll have to keep reading them on my own until he comes back around. These are just a great story about friendship.
Okay, where was this book when I was a kid? Super Frenemies (another *incredible* Simon & Chester book) is an early graphic novel perfect for any reader in your life! Highlighting issues of one's friends not liking each other, trying to impress & receive praise from a parent, the back and forth decision on doing what's best for oneself or what's best for others. Easy to read & follow along. The illustrates really keep readers captivated, as well, as the humor & timely Simon quibs. A great addition to the Simon & Chester series!
This is a cute graphic novel for young readers. Simon and Chester are great friends but Chester is a ghost and Simon has to help him. Simon has to learn some important lessons about working with someone he doesn't really like so he can save his friend. Even though the story is about something that isn't real (ghosts), the lessons are great for young kids.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
As my first time reading the Simon and Chester books, I was definitely dropped into the. middle of a story. But not in a way that made it hard for me to follow. There was definitely something that came before, but I didn't miss it all that much and was able to catch up with things pretty quickly. In fact, it took me a beat to realize that this was actually part of a series and not a stand alone. And the cover was funny, because I totally missed that it was someone else with Simon duking it out on the cover. But then it all made sense when I went back and read through the teaser and really looked at the cover.
This is a great early graphic novel and a fun book altogether. I'm also interested in looking at the earlier books in the series which is a good thing because, sometimes, you start a book partway into a series and realize you just need to bounce.
The artwork is sharp and colourful. The characters are interesting. And the lessons they learn along the way are solid. Nothing new even in the paranormal, because a few gadgets looked a lot like they were right out of the Ghostbusters movies. But all in all, a good read about friends and making new friends. And helping each other out.
This was super duper cute. I loved reading the other Simon and Chester books and this one was just as cute. The illustrations were adorable and it was a real cute story
Thank you netgalley for the arc
I received an advance copy of Super Frenemies! (Simon and Chester Book #5) from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. As an educator this will definitely be a book I would have in my classroom. It highlights the difficulties of friendship, specifically having two friends who don’t get along. While still maintaining a fun, fast pace experience that I think my students would enjoy. The story was well rounded and touched on not just friendship, but also interesting family dynamics that I think a lot of students could relate to. Overall I would recommend this story to my students and have plans for it to be in my classroom once it releases.
