great STEM story for girls. Focuses on the themes of identity, coming of age; learns that not all "monsters" are scary; learn to breathe, it's ok to be afraid. Great title for MS girls.
This was a great book to read. It starts simple enough with Frankie being excited about helping her mom on this trip. Things change when they bump into a giant spider, which her mom handles pretty easily. After this Frankie is determined to prove she is brave, which gets harder to do when she hears some strange noises one night. They decide to investigate, which shows them there wasn’t anything out there to fear at all. But when a giant snapping turtle pops out of the water, things gets scary real fast. Once her mom helps her out of this situation, Frankie ends up learning an important lesson.
Super cute kids' comic book with colourful illustrations and loads of cool monsters.
I especially enjoyed the character design as well as information about real life weird animals. It's also a really cute idea that they are fairies and are therefore small. It made for very cool interactions with the different animals.
Cute artwork, similar to TV cartoons. Relatable characters and problem of wanting to be like one of your parents. Good message about what to do when afraid
A cute graphic novel about finding your feet and realising we all need to muster courage to face whatever life throws at us. Full of colourful illustrations and a sweet mother daughter relationship.

This is a perfect way to teach young kids about fear and bravery, but making the lesson fun and interesting for them. I recommend it be read to/by 7+ year olds. The artwork fit the theme of the story, and it was an interesting way to introduce actual scientific names of different species.
This is a wonderfully accessible book for children in year three and above (7+). Frankie is a fairy who wants to be brave like her mum. When she's tasked with the job of research assistant alongside her mother, she realises that she needs to be brave. However, bravey doesn't come easy to Frankie as she's afraid of everything! When she eventually manages to face her fears, she finds herself in a sticky situation. This book has gorgeous illustrations and so many fantastic science links. The message within the story about it being okay to be frightened and that bravey can be difficult is a brilliant message for young readers. The family relationship is wonderful and I love the little character Tuna! This is definitely a book that helps to bridge the gap between picture books and early chapter books. Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for an early copy.
This sweet little story looks high fantasy until you start noticing the animals. Those are actually quite real to life and rendered in loving detail that neither breaks immersion nor gives any doubt about what the real life animals are like. Behind this artsy balancing act are characters bantering and learning about what bravery means in a way that doesn't feel particularly preachy.
The only thing that broke immersion for me was the sudden, "it's not a monster, it's an ecosystem!" Adorable concept, could have used a bit more easing in. Still, it's a small criticism and is far from ruining this lovely little story.
Absolutely a great way to get kids interested in science and more comfortable around creepy crawlies.
Frankie Fairy wants to be fearless like her researcher mother! Except that she’s afraid.
This little graphic novel shows the lesson about being brave even when we are afraid. The story is a simple, yet cute little tale. One that has a valuable teaching component with wonderful artwork.
There are tidbits of scientific information and fun adventuring that is age appropriate and informative.
Highly recommend!
This Graphic Novel is filled with so many fun illustrations. I think this would fit perfectly on a young readers shelf, probably for 7+. I enjoyed this story, the le grh is ideal for young readers or even for an adult who's looking for something to lose themselves in for about an hour (depending on how fast you read.) It promotes self confidence and I actually really want to have this on ny own shelves the art was so nice!
Lovely graphic novel for young readers. I would assume 8-10 year olds would enjoy this the most. Read with a 9yo.
The MC, Frankie is a fairy, who helps her scientist mom on her field trips about creepy critters.
She is a young fairy and constantly seeks her mother’s praise while trying to overcome her fears.
My child enjoyed the story. The length is ideal for the age group.
My favourite elements were the design, the colour harmony and the setting.
The characters are cute. It is nice to see a comic series promoting science, life skills and self-confidence altogether.
Frankie and the Beastly Bog Song is a fun graphic novel perfect for young readers. We follow Frankie and her mom into the woods to research scary critters. Frankie overcomes her fears and learns lessons on patience and being brave. The illustrations are colorful, and I really enjoyed the art style.

4.5 Very well-designed story and artwork. Short but sweet with a few life lessons just from these pages. The character design is amazing, I can imagine the characters as collectible figurines already. The humor is fantastic and goes well with the manga/anime style of the facial expressions that I love. Great conclusion for this episode. Just wished it was a longer story. It's a comic book more than a full graphic novel. I am assuming there will be more episodes. Great for young readers and up.
I got this on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review!
This was a really fun and sweet book about Frankie and her mother going on a trip to research! I read the first book about Frankie a few years ago and enjoyed it, but I think I enjoyed this one a little bit more! Loved seeing the relationship between them, the focus on research and overcoming our fears and reflecting on them!
Always want more Frankie!
Captivating plot that keeps you on your toes. Strong character development that is tied in with an important lesson of being brave vs being fearless. Intriguing character dynamics. Lively and wonderful illustrations. Diverse set of characters that leave you wanting more. Spunky duo of mother and daughter. Easy-to-understand dialogue along with a cordial narration. Overall, a great read.
Frankie is excited to go on an scientific adventure with her mom into the Beastly Bog. They get a cabin, and Frankie promises that she will never be afraid. But she's immediately confronted by a giant orb spider, and her resolve dies. But Frankie is nothing if not determined, so she sets out to prove she isn't afraid, for why would her mom want a research partner who's a scaredy fairy?
While not as brilliant as book one, this book has a special place among all the kiddos who have ever been told that liking lizards and worms and spiders is too weird. Frankie's personal growth in this book is heartwarming, and the family trust she and her mother share is sweet. I always love a book where the spider turns out to be the good guy, and I hope this series will continue undaunted.
Thank you to NetGalley and Oni Press for this ARC. All opinions are my own.
Our main character Frankie wants to be fearless just like her mom - but that's hard when everything is so scary! They go on a research trip to scope out bugs and animals in the wild. Frankie confronts her fears more than once. This is a lovely story of confronting fears and discovering how brave you can be. Very fun and enjoyable!

TLDR: Super adorable and cute with a fab message behind it - worth the read for any and all ages!
This is my first time reading and seeing anything from Caitlin Rose Boyle and I've fallen in love!
The colours and artwork are so vibrant and bubbly which suits the story and characters so well. It's a very short and sweet story but I loved the little bits of animals facts throughout (as an animal behavourist myself). If I could add one thing, it would be that I wish there was a bit more facts on the animals we see, but obviously I know that the target audience isn't me.
I plan to buy a physcial copy when this releases and grab the first one in this series too, can't wait!
This is adorable! Frankie Fairy is determined to be as brave as her mom during their summer research trip in the wilderness. It only things, like huge bugs and noises at nighttime, would stop being so scary! Determined to conquer her fear Frankie sets out on her own and learns a bit lesson about bravery. this book is so sweet. Frankie and her mom are delightful and the art is so vivid and capturing. An amazing early graphic novel for kids to fall in love with!
So so cool. Its a light read, a good adventure story and has a heartwarming ending. Love the mother and daughter dynamic that goes through an adventure and how it shows the meaning of bravery and mother's love. I'm a parent and hits me on my heart. Great book for all ages.
