It is interesting if gory read with an intriguing concept of how far you would go to revenge on the death of your child. Evelyn and Tobias (Toby) lose their son Joshua to a hit and run driver, Aaron. Told from their different viewpoints, it's a fast-paced bloody killing fest. Aaron is released from prison, having served 11 years of his 20-year sentence. Evelyn plotted to kill Aaron on his release, and Toby trying to stop her. I felt more sympathy with the child killing Aaron as the story unravelled. A thrilling, nail biting, chilling, and compelling reading if a bit gory for my taste. Well written and thought-provoking.
This book is a tale of real heartbreak and a Mother’s (Evelyn) fight for her own sense of justice following the death of her son, run over, killed and left for dead by drug taking Aaron. Desperate not to lose his wife as well as his son, her Husband Tobias races to stop her as it appears there is no limit to what she will do to obtain her own justice!
I could not put this book down, constant twists and turns. I really liked how the story was told from the Mother’s perspective, the Father’s perspective and the perpetrator’s perspective. I also found it very thought provoking, for instance, would I seek my own form of justice if someone was responsible for the death of my child? Should someone still be held accountable when they’ve served their time within the justice system?
I found Jack Jordan conveyed every thought and emotion from the different perspectives really effectively. I constantly changed my mind about how I would feel and handle the situation. I actually found myself feeling sorry for Aaron (the perpetrator) and angry and frustrated with Evelyn who simply does not care who or what stands in her way!
Redemption is a rollercoaster of morality from start to finish. It asks the question, if someone murdered your child what would you do and at what cost.
Evelyn has waited 11 years for Aaron who murdered her son to be released from prison so she can take her own revenge. There begins a cat and mouse chase between Evelyn and Aaron. Where this story differs however is with the introduction of Evelyn’s husband Tobias who wants to stop her carrying out her revenge.
This a fast paced and at times violent thriller told from multiple perspectives with a few flashbacks thrown in. However, it also deals more with the different ways in which individuals cope with grief and what may lead to a person to commit murder.
It was my first by this author but will not be my last.
Although I enjoyed this book I felt the ending was a tad rushed(can’t say why as I don’t want to give any spoilers).
A great story about a mother's revenge on a man who killed her son 11 years back and served time for it. Makes you wonder how you would react if god forbid you were ever in a similar position. Great characters ..I did not zoom through it but enjoyed the book nonetheless.
INCREDIBLE!! Jack Jordan is becoming one of my favourite authors. Love his writing style and the suspense he builds into the stories. I won't ruin the book for anyone else but if you think you know how this story is going, NO YOU DON'T! A fabulous read which I read in one sitting as I could not put it down.
Thank you to Netgalley, Jack and the publisher for this ARC
Redemption is the second Jack Jordan book I have read and right from the start it is a rollercoaster of emotions. We follow Evelyn and Tobias a married couple originally from England who moved to San Diego for Tobias and his work. We follow them from a young couple and learnt they met at university and were deeply in love. They eventually marry and have a son, Joshua and move to America when Joshua is a few years old.
Moving forward 20 years, things are very different. Their beloved son, has died in a hit and run accident whilst on a school trip when he was 9 and the couple have drifted so far apart from grief that they are merely just existing.
When their sons killer, Aaron Alexander is released 11 years into a 20 year sentence, we realise just how grief stricken Evelyn and Tobias have become. Evelyn mainly, has become obsessed with tracking down Aaron and making him pay for destroying their lives.
We follow the characters and their different views in alternate chapters which gives us a better understanding of how they tick and what is keeping them going in their pursuit for personal justice. Evelyn is completely blinkered and has spent the last 11 years counting down to this moment whereas Tobias, loves his wife and is determined to not let her ruin her life any further. Tobias loves his wife but Evelyn has become so obsessed, she has become a completely different person.
Redemption is a fantastic cat and mouse story. You feel sympathy for everyone involved and learn just how far people will go to avenge a loved one. What happens next though? Do you feel better? Does anything change? Do you receive the closure you are desperate for?
A very thought provoking read with twists and turns that really do keep you gasping.
From the first page this was a gripping read. Strong characters, a good storyline and lots of pace.
Evelyn’s level of grief and anger was dealt with empathetically, as was her husband’s love and belief in her. As a mother I could understand her raw emotion at having lost a child but her need for revenge was difficult to accept. I felt sorry for Tobias who had suffered the same loss and yet Evelyn couldn’t see past her own needs. Despite her actions he was still prepared to be there for her which was admirable.
A very emotional story which kept me hooked, despite on occasions being a little bit far fetched. One of those books that was hard to put down.
4.5 stars
Redemption by Jack Jordan
I give this book 4.5 stars.
Locked in a collision course set in motion eleven years ago, Aaron, Evelyn and Tobias are about to find out whether the road they have chosen leads to redemption . . . or to retribution.
I could not wait to get my hands on this book and I devoured it in under 24 hours!
Told from all 3 sides of the story, the grieving mother who has waited 11 years for revenge, the father who loved his son and is trying desperately to save his wife from herself and the person who killed their young son in a hit and run accident, these characters had me completely invested. A powerful, thought provoking and taut read, with addictive short chapters to keep you hooked and unable to put the book down. The author is a master at weaving a plot full of moral dilemma’s,allowing the reader to question what they would feel and do in the same situation then hitting you with a barrage of twists you hadn’t considered. An emotional roller coaster of a read with a deliciously satisfying ending. You MUST read this!!!
With thanks to Jack Jordan, Simon and Schuster and Netgalley for my chance to read and review this book.
Eleven years ago Evelyn and Tobias Moore's world came crashing down when their young son Joshua was killed in a hit and run, now the man responsible for his death, Aaron Alexander, has been released from prison and Evelyn is ready to set in motion the revenge she has been planning since the day he was convicted. But, as she and Tobias set off to catch up with Aaron, she's not prepared for the fact that Tobias is going to do everything in his power to stop her making what could be the worst mistake of her life.
Redemption is the latest thriller by Jordan and tells the story of one woman's quest to avenge the killer of her nine year old son Joshua. Set in San Diego and Reno, this action packed and, at times, gory tale is told across various timelines and from multiple points of view of the main characters. In the eyes of the law Aaron has served his time and just wants to get on with his life as best he can but Evelyn has other ideas. It's every parent's worst nightmare to imagine losing a child and nobody knows how they would react unless they find themselves in that situation, but I found myself becoming increasingly annoyed with Evelyn and, after hearing Aaron's back story, more sympathetic to his plight and also to Tobias with his efforts to thwart her plans. This story is so well written, full of tension and emotion throughout and kept me engrossed until the very last page, another fabulous read from this author that is sure to fly off the shelves.
I'd like to thank Simon & Schuster UK for the approval, I will post my review on Amazon and Goodreads.
Oh my! What a rollercoaster ride! I read Redemption in a day as I found it so unbelievably compelling. Jack Jordan is an amazing writer and every word of this novel is so visceral that I felt the toxicity and tension between the characters straight away; I was grimacing in pain because I could feel the characters’ pain myself and I was deeply affected by the grief that permeates the whole novel. The effect of this is increased by the physical landscape and the threat of forest fires which makes the whole story feel really claustrophobic.
Redemption is narrated by the three main characters: Tobias, Evelyn and Aaron. They each have very different roles in the story and this approach helped me to get to know them all better. Jack Jordan is a master of the moral dilemma, and for most of this novel, I had no idea whose side I was supposed to be on - and it changed on a regular basis!
I read a lot of novels, and for most of them, I have a rough idea what direction they might go in, even if I don't guess every twist. With Redemption, i had absolutely no idea at all how the story would end. It is so well plotted and there are so many twists and turns that I just had to keep reading. It's fast paced and the action is absolutely relentless!
I can't wait to see what Jack Jordan comes up with next!
This fast paced and action packed thriller is told from three different character’s POV. Incredibly thought provoking and emotive and actually so much more than a thriller. I couldn’t turn the pages quickly enough or imagine how it was going to end. The ending was actually very well written and tied things up much better than I thought possible. Thank you to an online Book Club, the Publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book.
What a cracking read this is! How have I waited this long to discover Jack Jordan? Fast-paced, gripping and exciting, this is the story of a young man who, in an intoxicated state, killed a boy in a car accident. Now he has served his sentence and is released, wanting to get back to a quiet life. However, the bereaved mother has been waiting all these years to get her revenge, and everything is carefully plotted. With lots of unexpected outcomes, this is a real heart in mouth experience, and I loved it!
Redemption is a fast paced road trip to revenge. Like any other road trip, there are a few bumps in the road and unexpected detours, all of which add to the experience.
The tension builds from the first page and does not let up until the very last sentence. It’s thought provoking and propulsive. The writing is clever and the multiple narratives mean your sympathy waxes and wanes throughout.
If you like your thrillers on the gory side, be sure to push Redemption to the top of the pile.
Thanks for the author, publisher and NetGalley for a chance to review an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest review
A gripping, powerful, emotional and heart breaking read. I've never been disappointed with a book written by Jack Jordan, Redemption is no exception. Tobias and Evelyn have been grieving for their son , Joshua , who was killed by a a hit and run driver. 11 years on and the driver of the vehicle has been released from prison. Evelyn's grief driven revenge knows no bounds . I was desperate to know the outcome of this story.
Once I'd started this book I could not put it down. A thrilling read but with grief and sadness featuring throughout.
I loved this author's last two book, two of my favourite thrillers of recent years so my expectations were high picking up Redemption.
Redemption is a well crafted and well plotted tale of revenge. Evelyn and Tobias lost their son eleven years previously when he was hit by a car in the desert in the middle of the night and the driver left the scene. He was subsequently caught and served eleven years in prison. Aaron has now served his time and is making small steps to rebuilding his life. Evelyn has been waiting all these years for his releases, consumed by rage and her devastating loss of her only child, she believes she must take revenge and take Aaron's life. So Evelyn and Tobias get in their car and drive to where Aaron is living and Evelyn intends to kill him.
Oh I am conflicted on this one , I can usually suspend belief for the sake of a decent pageturner but I struggled to with this one. I just couldn't get on board with this "normal couple" being driven to revenge. I thought the author captured their emotions and failing marriage well and their overwhelming grief and I also thought Aaron as a carefully drawn character and yet something held me back from being invested in this story.
When compared with other books in this genre, this is possibly a 4 star read but when compared with the two of Jack Jordan's books I have previously read, this would get a much lower rating.
I do however think other readers will love this book, maybe its more a case of me not the book but I was a little disappointed. It stretched the bounds of reality just too far for me.
3 stars.
Book Review: Redemption by Jack Jordan
"Redemption" by Jack Jordan is a gripping thriller that delves into the complexities of grief, revenge, and redemption. We follow Aaron Alexander, recently released from prison after serving eleven years for a hit-and-run that killed nine-year-old Joshua Moore. Joshua's mother, Evelyn, consumed by rage and grief, embarks on a quest for revenge, dragging her husband Tobias along.
Jordan's writing is powerful and emotional, capturing the obsession of Evelyn and the turn her marriage took. The story is told from the perspectives of Tobias, Evelyn, and Aaron, providing multiple versions of the story and most of all, emotions that brought to those characters. The tension is palpable as the story unfolds, with twists and turns that kept me hooked.
The portrayal of Evelyn's rage and Tobias's desperate attempts to save her from herself adds depth to the characters. The novel's fast pace and unexpected twists make it impossible to put down, culminating in a pretty good conclusion.
“Redemption" is a thought-provoking, edge-of-your-seat thriller
Very grateful to the publisher for my ecopy, opinions are my own.
Wow! I had heard good things about this author but had not read anything by him…that will now change!
Redemption is awesome! Dark, gruesome, haunting, heart breaking but also redemptive.
Evelyn and Tobias’ son was killed 11 years ago and his killer is about to be released. They have very different views on how to handle this fact. Told from 3 points of view the story is gripping, fast paced and heart breaking.
I loved the narrative and the character development of all three main characters. A brilliant read that makes you think about how you would react if the worst thing happened?
Evelyn has been waiting for Aaron, the man responsible for her son's death, to be released from prison. Her husband Tobias is desperate for her to move on, even if it means standing in the way of the revenge she is set on.
Redemption is a thriller that will shock you to your very core.
This is so much more than a simple tale of revenge, and it will surprise you in ways you never expected. From the outset Jack Jordan gives a glimpse of humanity in Aaron, which creates so much conflict in who you want to root for. It is not just a case of a cold-blooded murderer versus a grieving mother - it goes way beyond that.
The story is told from three perspectives - Evelyn, Tobias and Aaron. I loved getting to see the events that unfolded from their unique viewpoints. The journey that this plot takes you on is like no other I've read before - gritty, dark and powerful.
Another book from Jack Jordan that is not to be missed.
Thank you NetGalley and Simon and Schuster for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
Right from the beginning Redemption takes off at a blistering stratospheric pace. We are introduced to Evelyn, a mother obsessively planning revenge. Tobias, her complaisant and seemingly submissive husband. Aaron, the quiet damaged young man who was released after serving 11 years in prison for the hit and run death of Evelyn and Tobias’s young son.
As the action unfolds, some of it quite violent, nothing goes to plan for Evelyn, or Tobias who now wants to save her from herself. Other characters are willingly or not swept along in this maelstrom, Aaron’s mum, his employer, his boyfriend, his brother, drug dealers, proud boys, and a dog named Lexy. What I didn’t expect was to care so much for the characters, all of them. Seriously. While the book is fast paced, Jack Jordan did a slow burn on allowing us into each character’s motivations, their weaknesses, and slowly into their growing awareness of themselves. In doing so the author allows each character to find their redemption.
I enjoyed this book and would have given it 5 stars except for the graphic violence that I felt could have been toned down without detracting from the novel.
Thank you to Simon and Schuster UK, and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was another really good read by Jack Jordan. A cat and mouse story about a mum who has waited 11 years to get redemption for her son’s death and will stop at absolutely nothing to get it and a dad who is trying to stop her for fear of losing her forever.
Told in different points of views of the characters, I felt all the emotions for each character in the story, it got me thinking about how I would feel and do in the same situation. The story is full of action throughout which makes it a fast paced read. There are a few bits that were maybe over the top but it all made it a quick page turner for me.
I think this book would make a great movie! Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this ebook in exchange for my honest review.
