This was a nice story but for me it didn’t really keep my attention. It flowed nicely but for me it just lacked something.

Even though this book has a few tough subjects within the plot, this is a feel good book. The main characters are lovable and you really route for them in life. Although sad things happen, it doesn't effect the feel good factor in the book. I blitzed through this in a day and loved it!

Thank you NetGalley, Headline Audio and Breea Keenan for a EARC in exchange for an honest review.

Plot Twist is such a fun, cute romance and I devoured it! I loved the two main characters and their banter. Two writers, working together to gain inspiration and motivation to push through their novels.

I found it really easy to like Becca and right from the start it had me giggling!

A great mix of friendship, found family and the perfect rom com for me!

Highly recommend!!

I really enjoyed this book… it was light and engaging. And exactly what I needed at the time. So much so I devoured it really quickly…

It is not literary genius but it was the right side of cheesy and romantic. And definitely nice “reading”. An audiobook can make or break on the narrator’s voice. And hers was perfect for the story. (I will never understand how someone could change between Scottish and Irish accent in the same breath though. Incredible.)

There were parts that were a bit rushed, but all in all I thought it was a nice and safe book that I enjoyed. I’d absolutely read another by the same author.

Rating 3.5 but rounding it up to 4

Plot Twist was a cute romance that was easy and fun to read. From an entertaining beginning, we follow Becca Taylor as she discovers her best friend is dead and not only that but she'd also been keeping a big secret. As she finds herself spiralling, Becca's writer friend, Riley O'Connell, suggests she visits Ireland. Becca agrees and goes to stay with Riley. However, she's in for a shock when Riley turns out to be a very handsome Irishman. The plot was entertaining, if a little predictable at times, but this was balanced by the plot twists throughout. Some were great fun, others gave me whiplash! haha.

I listened to the audiobook version of Plot Twist and thoroughly enjoyed the narration from Joy McAvoy. It was the perfect pick-me-up after a migraine. Thank you for getting me through it!

It Wouldn’t Be A Good Love Story Without A Plot Twist

Becca is going through a tough time. Her best friend has just died, she’s discovered that her best friend was dating her ex and she has the boss from hell. So when she is offered a summer away in Ireland with her online writer friend, how can she say no? But imagine her shock when the woman she’s been chatting to, turns out to be a man!

I devoured this book so fast! I loved the potential romance between Becca and Riley after she’d gotten over the shock that he was indeed a man and not the woman she assumed from his name! It has a real Hallmark feel to the story (and I’m a sucker for a Hallmark movie!) so yes, it’s a little cheesy but who can complain at that? It had a great balance of comedy, romance and emotion. What’s not to love?

I’m really looking forward to reading more by this author. Thank you NetGalley and Headline Audio for the ARC

“No matter what I do I look around and you're cheering me on with everything you have. I didn’t know how much I needed that. A best friend for life.”

Plot Twist was an amazing debut story where we follow Becca who reconstructs herself after losing everything she had. Step after step, she grows and progresses towards her Happily Ever After, that isn’t just about Love. For that, I don’t think Plot Twist is sensu stricto a romance. That didn’t bother me as it’s narrated first person and only with Becca POV. I loved the audiobook’s narrator and her Scottish accent that immersed me even more into the beautiful places of the book in both Scotland and Ireland.
Becca was a great character, full of struggles and memories. Her flashbacks were perfect to add layers and deeper feelings to what happened in the present. I loved everything about her and how she managed to remain (mostly) optimistic while Life threw so much at her. Riley… was a great character too. I might have loved to hear him from his own POV, but I think the book would have been less powerful in that more classic scheme.
I adored the writing process part (I’m always in when it comes to books about books) and even more how the usually gendered things were often twisted during the story (to begin with Riley, a thousand hearts on him). For me these were the most important “twists” in the book, because if a lot happens, it remains pretty logical and not so much surprising. I couldn’t stop the story though, and wanted to know where B.K. would lead us. It was a true pages turner. I truly hope this author will write more stories that I’d love to discover.
Thank you very much to NetGalley, HeadLine Audio and Breea Keenan for that ARC in exchange for this honest review.

PS: the reader has a strong accent. I liked it, it allowed me to immerse more into the story, but if it can be a problem to you, you should listen to the sample first.

Plot Twist - Breea Keenan

A big thank you to @netgalley and the publishers for an early advanced copy of this lovely book. Narrated by Joy McAvoy. This was such a lovely read of grief, love, loss, grudges and joy.

When Becka losses her best friend in a horrific car accident she is totally distraught. Upon attending her best friends funeral she is flabbergasted when the bombshell is dropped that her best friend was dating her ex, the once love of her life. With everything feeling completely out of control she takes up the invitation to go to Ireland and stay with her friend Riley and daughter. They have never met before but the chance of meeting another struggling writer and getting away from it all seems to be the answer, but then the shocks just keep coming. She is once again astounded to see that Riley is actually a man, and a very handsome one at that.

As she settles into a life in Ireland and leaves Scotland behind they encourage each other to work on their novels and begin their own little writing retreat. She can't quite leave Scotland behind though as things from her past keep creeping up. With exes turning up to add some chaos into the mix.

Being Scottish myself it was lovely to have this narrated by a Scottish person but she did the Irish accent well. Irish is one of my favourite accents and I loved the joining of these two cultures. It was a fun listen and one I enjoyed.

This book is coming out on the 28th March. So not long to go. I do hope you give it a try.

Bit of an odd one for me, this one! Absolutely flew through this story but I am so divided over the romance plot and everything else that was going on.

What worked for me:

The MC, Becca! She has a messy past and a recent loss but she uses that so well as motivation towards her life goals. There were some iffy choices along the way but they felt quite genuine.

Bridget and Ellie! They and their subplot complimented the story arc and they were just quite lovely.

What didn't work for me:

The love interest, Riley. I didn't feel the chemistry between Becca and Riley at all so when the romance really kicked off I couldn't get in to it. He also makes some sus decisions and, in my opinion, Becca deserves better.

Too many sub plotty clichés. While the big cast of side characters was making the MC come across more well rounded, it felt like a tick box exercise to assign each one its own trope. It was a little bit soap opera and ultimately took away time that should have been spent on the main romance plot.

I love this genre but I think I enjoyed this book in spite of the romance. It would have done much better as a slice of life with Riley as the platonic friend.

Becca is a teacher and would be author whose world falls apart when her best friend dies suddenly. Blaming herself Becca takes up an offer to escape to Ireland to stay with an online friend who is a fellow author but not the female she had assumed.

I thought it was going to be a lightweight easy read but although it certainly was not heavy going it nevertheless covered some weighty topics. There were a couple of things that were slightly annoying. Firstly get a backdated sick note Becca! Your GP receptionist would not make a hospital appointment, that's the remit of the hospital. Becca should stop assuming you know what people are thinking and ask them. But she is not actually real so I allow for artistic license.
I think the Drew storyline late on was unnecessary and not very believable in what he was asking.

I really enjoyed the book and was drawn in very quickly. The characters were mostly likeable and it was an entertaining listen. The Narrator was excellent and I would listen to other books read by her.

Thank you to Netgalley and Headline audio for the DRC audio book.

Thank you so much to Netgalley and Headline Audio for this early release copy!

This book follows Becca, a Scottish writer who has very recently lost her best friend and is struggling with grief. Becca meets a fellow Irish writer Riley online, whom she assumes is a woman based on their conversations. Becca and Riley quickly become really good friends, and both resonate with the struggles of writers block.

When Riley invites Becca to come and stay with him in Ireland for a short break to help them both get through their writing struggles, Becca agrees, expecting a ‘girly retreat’ but is shocked to turn up and find that Riley is actually a man.

A childhood friends-to-lovers, small-town, slow-burn romance, this book is super cuteee. Also, looooved the Ireland setting. The narrators were brilliant, I loved the FMC’s Scottish accent, it was so realistic, even down to the language that Becca and her Dad used.

This was just cute and cosy vibes I had a good time reading it, and there was a lot more depth to the story than just romance - the book covered grief, friendships, and loss.

I’m not usually a fan of kids in books but I really didn’t mind this, the whole plot and all the characters felt very mature and well written.

3/5 stars from me!

Hannah is having a tough time. Her best friend has died, she's struggling with work, and she's stuck trying to write her children's book. The one bright spark is her fellow female author friend Riley, who offers her support and advice. When Riley offers her a chance to escape from her life, and stay with them as a form of writing retreat Becca jumps at the chance. And is shocked to discover Riley is very much male...and single.

I picked this up looking for a light rom com, but found it was much more. The story covered serious topics such as grief and loss, substance use domestic violence and cancer in a sensitive and authentic manner. I loved little Ivy, and Riley and Becca's relationship was heartwarming, particularly based on the way it started! There were so many twists and turns I found myself really immersed, and enjoyed the journey. It's quite refreshing to pick up a rom com that isn't predictable.

Finally, the narration was perfection. I loved the characters accents, and the narration was crisp and engaging, providing depth and life to all of the characters. Such a joy to listen to, I will certainly be picking up audiobooks in the future narrated by Joy McAvoy.

Thank you Headline Audio and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed are my own.

what an emotional yet wonderful love story 🥂🩷

plot line: Becca Taylor is having a bad summer.

Her best friend is dead. Her good-for-nothing ex is back in her life. And her career is in freefall.

So, when fellow writer Riley O'Connell invites Becca to the charming Irish countryside, she can't pack her bags fast enough, even though they have never met.

But happily-ever-after isn't quite so simple.

And Riley is not a sensitive female romance novelist like Becca assumed. No, he is definitely a man. A hot, six-foot tall, Irish man.

But with their complicated pasts getting in the way, Becca and Riley just can't get on the same page.

So can fate give their love story a rewrite?

my thoughts:
wow, this was such an enjoyable book!

as a huge romance reader everything about this book / Becca and Riley’s storyline felt as though it was straight out of rom-com movie (which I LOVE).

not to mention the plot twists… OH MY GOD!!!

as for the characters:
Becca was such an inspiring character that had a lot of kindness and patience - she is also understandably very overwhelmed by recent events but takes it in her stride to remain strong! (what a woman 💪🏻).

as for Riley , his character was very calm yet sweet who’s main priority was caring for his daughter - which I know will be a huge advantage for some readers!

honestly, I just loved how this book went through a range of emotions , there was humour , grief , sadness, love , forgiveness and happiness! - for a debut novel this was so impressive!

if I had to make any adjustments to this book , I would;
• mention sensitive topics / trigger warnings
• dual pov because I would have loved to hear / read Riley’s point of view

overall, this was such a heartwarming story that many romance readers will love!

Plot twist

When Becca life is turned upside down with the death of her best friend and the return of her ex.

Becca turns to her online friend RIley her writer friend and mum to ivy. Riley invites Becca to visit for the summer, Becca agree thinking it is the break she needs from her life, so when Becca turns up in a cute town in Ireland she is surprised to find out that RIley is not a mum but a single dad.

Becca and Riley use this time together to help each other write their books.

I loved Riley and Becca friendship. I love Riley relationship with ivy and his sister and her wife.

The narrator was fab but this one wasn’t for me :( the number of F-bombs and crude jokes just in the first chapter was so off-putting

This'd probably be a great summer read for many people, but it was sadly a case of "it's not you, it's me" when it came to my experience reading it, as I couldn't fully invest myself in the main character's voice.

TW: parental loss, friend loss, grief, parental abandonment, brief mention of drug and alcohol abuse, brief mention of emotional and physical abuse (off page)

What a cutesy cover Plot Twist has, I admit, I fell for it for that reason combined with the brief audio snippet provided. I didn't know what I was getting myself into! Plot Twist is about Becca who is trying to overcome the sudden death of her long time best friend and trying to write her first children's novel. Her chatty author friend invites her to Ireland to stay with her and to get some good writing done and support one another, only Becca finds out Riley isn't a she...she's actually a He...a smoking hot one at that.

I found Riley and Becca's relationship kind of silly at first, it was really hard to tell if he actually liked her more than a friend, meanwhile she's beating herself up about thinking about it him so much when she should be trying to overcome her grief and help him in his writing. He never really dissuades the other lady in the book (the yoga instructor) so it threw me off. And then Becca's ex came back into the picture?! It was all very much whiplash! But through it all I found I did really like Becca's character and I felt she was really genuine in what she was going through.

So the plot was kind of all over the place but with this being the author's first book I don't think it was bad. She put a lot of work into her ALL of her characters and it showed...they had a lot of depth and feeling. I will definitely keep an eye out for more of her work.

I was granted an ALC of this book and I must say the narrator, Joy McAvoy, was a blessing to listen to. Her Scottish accent was so lyrical and beautiful to listen to and I loved the way she did all the voices including the MMC's little girl Ivy. I can't wait to find more titles she has narrated!

Thank you so much to Headline Audio for providing me with an ALC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review!

“Be still my beating, romance-writing heart.” Plot Twist is perfect for readers who loved the writer/writing-based plot of Emily Henry’s Book Lovers or those who appreciate a dedication to scene-setting in Scotland (think Alex Riley’s Kilt Trip) or, in Keenan’s case, Ireland.

For me, this is a four-star audio and three-star read – which is ultimately the mark of a great audiobook. It made the book better.

The narration is spot-on. It was perfectly cast and executed. The audio added so much depth to this story, and – perhaps more than other audiobooks— it required my full attention.

I definitely plan to recommend my audience look into the audiobook for this one over a physical copy.

As for the story…I mean, the author did try to tell us in the title. This one started off so strong, but I preferred the first half to the last half of the book. In the last half of the book, there are just too many “crisis” moments—yes, too many twists—and, well, Plot Twist loses the plot. It was a great set-up and overall enjoyable read, but this book tried to tackle too much and fell short on exploring the chemistry between the MMC and FMC.

I went into this one blind—knowing nothing of the core misunderstanding—and I hope others get the chance to as well.

3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you to Netgalley and Headline audio for the opportunity to listen to the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

The story - After a devastating event in Becca’s life her online friend Riley invites her to stay. Becca is expecting a rom-com writing, flowy skirt wearing woman but Riley turns out to be a hot, single Dad.

My thoughts - This is what I would class as a quick easy read, I read it in one evening. It was engaging with a level of depth I wasn’t expecting. The cast of characters were likeable, including the side characters. I did feel like the romance took a backseat compared to all of the other threads of the story and therefore it felt underdeveloped. I was hoping for a bit of angst and tension between Becca and Riley but their romance fell flat.

The audiobook - Joy McAvoy does a fantastic job at bringing the story to life. I was a little nervous when I realised she has a Scottish accent but I absolutely loved her narration.
